When the free dining plan was offered the last few years were DVC members allowed to get the DDP for free?

Sure, under the same terms everyone else did, book a full price room and park tickets. Which some DVC members did.

Free dining was not available to guests staying on points - its a marketing ploy to get people to book trips during the offseason. DVC already has low points and no occupancy issues during that time.

Yep! we could get it, but we had to pay for it like everyone else did. Could we get it while using our points? No. Hubby and I took advantage of it in August. We bought the package at Pop for 4 nights, got 2 one-day tickets (which we used to renew our APs in October) and got the free DDP. We paid $420 (I paid the $200 deposit with my Disney Visa and used my Disney reward points for the balance, so my trip only cost me the $200 deposit). It was a great deal, especially since we got upgraded to the CSR for free. And the best part was, we didn't use our points and still took our 2 week trip at the end of October. So the free DDP just provided us with 4 trips to WDW instead of the 3 I had planned with my points. We will do it again, if it's offered next summer, but decided to do a part stay with the free DDP and a stay in a 2 bedroom at BWV or BCV this time using our points.

We got it at a reduced price during our december 06 stay using our DVC, but it was way too much food for us and we found we didn't enjoy scheduling our entire vacation around when/where to eat.

I think it was 37.99/grownup, can't remember what the kids were.

That wasn't a reduced price ;) $37.99 was the regular adult price for 2006. It is $38.99 for 2007. Kids prices remained the same for 2007, $10.99.

Darn that member services lady!

I was sold a bill of goods!

Actually, my husband booked it so I may be misremebering the cost...

Jeez, I hope so!

It was a great deal, If you stayed in a value or moderate. I crunched the numbers and it was still high for a deluxe resort. Some may have paid for that but we go 2-3 times a year, so I really try to get the best price that I can. We stayed in a CS and bought 1 day tickets and ate for free. It was a great trip!! I still have the one day tickets. As others have said, if you stayed on points, you have to pay for the dining, it is still a deal.

I'll stay with my DVC rm and pay for the DDP. I will save a lot more.
