Were changes to minimum point levels for Direct Member Benefits announced in advance?

My guess is that before too much longer we will see tiers of membership introduced (with escalating perks/benefits) rather than just continuing to raise the minimum.

I suspect they'd love that in theory, but know they can't administer it. They're very bad at credential management.

I agree with you. 150 points is manageable for many potential buyers, above that is a line that many may not want to cross

Especially when the next resort coming online is at Disneyland. Disneyland guests are different, and I don't think they're going to have many buyers interested in large contracts. A Disneyland vacation is 3-4 nights, not 6-10.

Then current blue card members would be grandfathered in to the lowest level and new members can starter higher depended on the number of direct points they buy.

They could go as far as saying all blue card members buying after the date in 2016 where you need to have direct points to get benefits will get the same “status” as they would had they bought today. That way all grandfathered resale owners would be left behind

We watched a lot of the past DVC Fan videos on Youtube before we purchased, and I was struck by the mention of just 75 points needed for member benefits back in late 2019.

It's been all over the map.

1991 - 230
2016 - 25 (also year they started white card)
2017 - 50 older resorts, 100 newer
Feb 2018 - raised to 75 all
Sept 2019 - raised to 100
Oct 2020 - raised to 125
June 2021 - raised to 150

From what I remember there has definitely been some advanced notice of a pending increase, especially in recent years. I don't remember the exact timing, but it was long enough for me to pull the trigger back in Sep 2019 for 75 before the minimum went to 100. I would say a couple weeks or so. Usually news is broken by the usual suspects (DVC fan, etc)

It dropped to 150 about 1996. It wasn't selling that well at the beginning.

To clarify, prior to 2016, there was no difference between the minimum for new buyers and membership extras, as all DVC owners were eligible.

Once they changed it in 2016, they had two minimums…one for perks and one for nee contracts.

Foe example, when perks was just 25 and then 75, that was only for current owners as new owners were required to add on a minimum of 100…though some got in direct for less but it was not advertised.

Once it hit 100, it was the same for everyone and same with 150. Same for all.
