Were castmembers held hostage during POTC movie premiere at DL???

You can't make an excuse for this. There is class warfare going on and the parks are the bottom-dwellers. They were mistreated employees and the company execs. acted like a bunch of pompous elitists who felt they were above fraternizing with the hired help.

It's a disgrace.

I ditto what Crusader said and laugh at those expecting apologists to show up...;)

I had read these Mouseplanet articles a couple of days ago...appalling. I may have missed it in the articles but I can't imagine what the execs had to say for themselves. I'm sure they just skirted the entire issue of the treatment of the CMs.

This type of behavior is deplorable, CM's shouldnt be treated in this manner, but apparently with so few responses on this thread alot here must find it accepable!!!!!!!
Now is US had done this the disney apologists would be out in force condeming them, instead all he have is silence from most!!!

Sorry Bob I think I killed all the fun replies with my first post. Next time I'll hold back and let them hang themselves first.

Reading those articles was like finding out that the favorite aunt and uncle you used to love to visit, turned out to be pedofiles.

I knew Disney was tight with a buck, but that Disney studio crew would have felt right at home in ancient Athens and made fine disciples of Draco.

While the conditions they were put in were deplorable and unexcusible I assume that it wasn't done merely to get them out of the way. I would assume that they were sequestered to prevent bootlegging of the movie. There would be no way to make sure that no one was taping the movie in such an environment.

I didn't apologize for the act, I think it was very bad. I just pointed out that everyone was assuming that it was just the ego of the studio folks that drove them to do it. I think it was the studio folks trying to protect their movie. The ends don't justify the means and I resent that you label me an "apologist". Read my first sentence in the prior post.

Generally I try to give Disney management the benifit of the doubt on a lot of the changes and events taking place in the company. But this is just bizzare beyond description.

As for the threat of CM's bootlegging the flick, I'd be willing to bet the movie had already been capped.

It may sound presumptious but ego tends to imply "better than" which is the main reason for abhorrent disrespect toward another person within a company.

Bootlegging the movie? I can't see this any more than I can see the invited guests doing the same. But if that was the reason, why did the CM's have to sit in the dark? Why were they giving food that was leftover from the press room? Why were the windows blacked out?

There's too many questions here and none of the possible answers look good to me. :(

I can't speak for what happened in Disneyland. Nor am I apologizing for it, it sounds like a load of @#$# to me. But I can tell you about my experience at the wrap party for Lilo and Stitch which was held at my very own Disney's Typhoon Lagoon. There was no showing of the film at TL (they had a viewing at the PI AMC 24 before hand). Guests included Eisner, Iger, Roy Disney, all the animators and their families, and numerous voice actors from the movie. The event was a blast and the cast had as good a time working as the guests had coming. We mingled with the guests while picking garbage (I had conversations with several animators, and even had a few words with Eisner, Roy Disney, and Iger's family). During our break we were supplied with a full buffet with burgers, dogs, grilled chicken, pasta salad, potatoe salad, fries, condiments, and sodas.

OnWithThe SHow- Im glad you and your fellow employee's were treated in the proper/professional manner that you deserved to be. Sadly that wasnt the case at the POTC fisaco and i have seen no rebuttal from employees regarding the treatment they received.

I would assume that they were sequestered to prevent bootlegging of the movie.
Anyone of the invited guests could bootleg the movie. That is just an absurd statement.

Except they knew exactly who the inivited guests were, and can be easily watched in the stands. It is common practice, at least in this neck of the woods to police the crowd and make sure that no one is taping the feature during pre-release showings. This includes making sure the theater staff is kept out of the theater. In this case there was no way to close the theater, so they put everyone in gulag. A stupid decision to say the least, a travesty at worst.
