We're back -- with a whole new WDW philosophy!

I think I'll be advising people who are going for a once in a lifetime trip to find a cooler time of year with less park attendance -- do you agree??
Uh-HUH! So flippin hot in the summer. Brave woman YOU!

The heat, the lines, the changing clothes because I'm scummy...Summer is hard!

:)

The lines were too long -- even at midnight the line for Space Mountain was across Future World. And you can only get so many fast passes!

WOW! :rotfl2: A line from Magic Kingdom to Future World at Epcot!! And at midnight, even!! :teeth:

But you know, I wonder how the logistics of this would work. I guess the line would thread on out the entrance/exit of Magic Kingdom, then would the line head to the monorail, or would it snake by the Contemporary and continue down the main roads to Epcot?? If it heads to the monorail, I guess CM's would have to grab people and direct them to the line from exiting and entering the monorail on both ends?? And if someone arrived by bus at Magic Kingdom and wanted to ride Space Mountain, the CMs would tell them to get in line back at Epcot?? :teeth:

Ok! Just kidding!! But funny to think of a line that LONG!! :teeth:

On the original topic - I can't even handle the heat of mid May anymore! Even then, the heat just destroyed me quickly. I remember walking around World Showcase, wondering how on Earth I was going to ever walk back to the parking lot without dehydrating and collasping! Even walking from one country to another, I would have to sit inside somewhere and recover! The heat beating down on my head just gets me so fast. :(

BUT, I can handle the humidity and heat of late Sept/early Oct easily. I had no real problems then, even though the temperature was about the same. I think for me, it's the sun being overhead too much that makes me feel so sick so fast. In Sept/Oct, the sun is not overhead as much anymore, and it makes a huge difference for me! :)

our first 2 trips were in Nov & Feb and the weather was great.
which may be another reason why we got hooked on Disney.
we now go in the summer because of the kids school schedule.

i'm glad we had the first 2 trips to kinda soak in without it being crowded or hot.

I agree with your new philosphy! I can't handle the hot weather anymore, May is about as hot as I want WDW to get; lower to mid 80's and then it's pushing it!

Give me January, February, or November any old time! I'd rather need a sweatshirt in the cooler months than feel like I'm suffering heat stroke! :sunny:

I live in Florida and will only go during the cooler months. We went one time in June, 20 years ago. I said never again!

We usually go during the winter months too but we are going the last week of August this year.

It's just a quick trip and it fit well with everyone's schedules.

The heat and humidity :confused3 Heck just step outside here today and there's more than plenty of it :teeth:

Here in the Great White North of Canada today the temperature is 93º with a real temperature feeling of 110º with the humidity. :joker:

If I've got to be in heat and humidity (which I love by the way), I might as well do it at Disney :p

heat and long lines equals extreme misery. animal kingdom in the middle of july and august about 2pm would be a living nightmare (i just can't handle hot weather very well)

Our first trip was in June and I caught the magic anyhow. Now we've had 5 summer trips (late June, into July, now value season) and 3 short December trips--one over the holidays (much worse crowds than summer on NYE) and two early in the month. Now those days are gone--I can still take personal days, but DD can't miss cheering basketball without consequences and the school is getting harder for the younger two as well.
I might try spring break someday--if only the kids' school district and mine would have the same stinkin' vacation week!

It took us making one trip in July back in 1982 to decide there must be a better time. Now, it's either sometime in March or April and no later than early May. We also like November/December and we are going to eventually try January and February. We just enjoy Disney more when it's not so bloomin' hot. If that makes us wimps, so be it, but at least we won't be wilted, sweaty wimps! :teeth:

We are going in August this year. I have never done it during summer vacation, but I am hoping that the end of August is less crowded.

Try Halloween week. We have tremendous success with that every year. Parents don't want to take the kiddies out of school for Halloween, so the parks are quite empty - but the kiddies who are there are decked out in their princess/Buzz Lightyear finest! It is SO CUTE. Weather is usually warm and clear, too.

I love going in the fall or December and try and find slow times. I can't stand lines. I remember posting this once and getting flamed for it that I shouldn't be going to WDW at all. LOL! I'm just so spoiled that the last 3 times I went the longest line I stood in was 30 minutes. Everything else was 5 - 10. There's no way I would go at a time now when crowds are high and lines are long. And when we were there it was still warm enough for water slides and it hardly rained!

Glad you had fun though.

We're probably going Halloween week this year. ;)

We only go in January. Being from Michigan and escaping the frigid temps and snow, even if Florida is having a "cold snap" it feels balmy to us!! :)

Last time we went it was very un-crowded and we never had to wait long for any ride/attraction. Walked right into the restaurant (Achershus?) at Epcot, no reservation needed. We wore shorts/t-shirts during the day, but did change into jeans/sweatshirts for evening. It got cold enough we could see our breath, but we still had a great time. We were the ONLY riders on Pirates of the Caribbean, a big boat for just the two of us and nobody else, very strange but fun. And Thunder Mountain we were able to stay on and ride again. Nice.

I don't think I could tolerate going to WDW in the summer, with the heat and the crowds of people, ugh!!

Wow! That was some line! Stretched across 2 parks! :rotfl2:

Glad you were still able to have a good time.

:lmao: :rotfl2:

Holy Cow! I hope the people in line in Future World got on before the sun came up! ;) :lmao:

We have been at these times:

Last few days of May into 1st few days of Jun (Memorial Day)

Columbus Day weekend

The Saturday before to the Friday after Thanksgiving

3rd week of April

The week of Labor Day

Last week of June

Of these times, the best trip was of course Labor Day. GHOST TOWN. But, we are a family that feel guilty taking the kids out of school, and it is only their 2nd week of school. So that won't happen often, if at all again.

I used to think that not matter when we go we hit crowds, because if you notice, we plan around Holidays, so DH can save a vacation day or two. It seems many, many other people have the same idea. Well, I used to think those times were crowded, UNTIL we went the last week of June. HOLY COW. We had never gone past the 4th or 5th day of June, so it was a culture shock to be among the summer crowd. NEVER AGAIN.

If we go to Disney during peak summer again, it wil be on the Cruise, or to Vero Beach. Crowd control! LOL

I hear 'ya. We went a couple of times in July and NEVER again. Now that our son is in college, we go the second week of January - perfect. Low crowds and temps in the 70's -- now that's a great trip to WDW.

We never go in the summer for this exact reason. We love going in September when the temps are still hot, but the crowds are a lot less :thumbsup2

That's why we got the FL res. seasonal passes - I don't plan on ever going in June or July.
