We're back and we're 40 inches. A Nov '15 Trip Report

I find it really hard to sleep while at Disney. There's just so much I could be doing instead.

I totally agree! It is hard to sleep knowing all the fun you could be having instead.

While the food was good and the characters were fun, the whole place just seemed to be so unorganized. I don't see it being a repeat for us.

Pretty much our experience with Ohana breakfast and we won't be back either. Last time we waited almost an hour just to be seated. Your family pictures there were great though.

AKL was my first Disney resort experience and I can say I loved it and hope to be back some day. Loving your pics.

We enjoy Ohana too but sometimes it's just too much. They often seem to be running late and frazzled. However, we LOVE Stitch so it's all worth it.

I LoVE LOVE LOVE your Stitch shirt!!

My littlest son did the EXACT same thing with the glass door at AKL except from the other way. We were all out on the balcony one night watching animals and one of the animals moved fast and spooked him. He took off to run in the room and ran smack into the glass. In his defense, this was a couple years ago so he was younger but should have known better! lol.....he ended up with dark bruises under his eyes from it.

That Time I Took My Unwitting 3 Year Old on Tower of Terror

On Tuesday we were up bright and early for an 8AM opening of Hollywood Studios. The Studios closed at 4pm this day for a cast member party, so I was hoping the crowds would be light. We drove to HS and were there in no time. We found through the week that we liked to drive to the parks in the morning when we could get a close parking spot, and take the bus in the evenings and avoid tram rides from the back of the parking lot. I think we were through bag check and waiting for the gates to open around 7:30am.

We we're let in around 7:45 and while everyone was headed to Toy Story we took a right towards Sunset Blvd and were held at a second "rope drop".

We had decided to hit up RnR first instead of Toy Story since we had a FP+ for Toy Story later in the day. We never really feel the need to ride it more than once. Audrey was definitely more excited to try RnR for the first time. Ezra on the other hand was not pleased to start off with a ride he is too short for.

So we decided to do a photoshoot while we waited.

Bubbles made an appearance.

Meanwhile Audrey was having her first Rock N Rollercoaster experience

I lost it when I saw her face. This picture was an instant classic. Thinking of donating it to the Smithsonian. Good news is she loved the ride and was ready to ride again with me. Child swap is awesome for older kids, they get to ride everything twice.

There was a little more happiness and a little less worry in her face this time. The dad and young kid duo that should have been behind us bailed at the last minute. The kid was LOOSING IT when she saw a limo take off.... poor thing.

I don't know if I'm just remembering wrong or what, but it seemed like RnR was much shorter this time? Anyways, after our wild ride through L.A. it was time to head back to the hotel. Unfortunately our elevator had a little issue....

See that look on Ezra's face... pure terror. We got in line for ToT totally expecting Ezra to chicken out during the Twilight Zone movie or at best the boiler room would do him in. Nope, the kid was more than willing to hop on that elevator. At this point I realized I probably should have told him what was going to happen, but why ruin the surprise? You can really see his reaction in the video.

I'm a terrible parent, haha. He wasn't too traumatized. He said he was okay, but had no desire to try it again. A week or so after the fact he is adamant that it's his favorite ride, so maybe he's a little thrill junkie like his sister.

After traumatizing the toddler we left Sunset Blvd, but not before getting a few photopass pictures.

Tremors 15: Experiment 626

Our next stop was a favorite of mine, The Great Movie Ride. It was great as always. The gangster was cheesy and everyone was slightly scarred by the munckin' animatronics , you know same old thing. I liked the updated movie at the end. The worst part of the ride was sharing a tram with a deodorant defector. GMR is a long ride to share with B.O. :crazy2:

Next we headed to the Streets of America, which is an area we had never checked out before. We didn't make it back there on our last trip. As we walked into Muppets Plaza, the CM was yelling "last call" for the next showing of Muppet Vision. We figured why not, and hurried in. Last time I saw this show was in Disneyland in 2003. Once a decade is really all you need :confused3

I made the kids take pictures with Lightning McQueen and Mater. Ezra wasn't really in the mood for pictures and Audrey is not a Cars fan, so they aren't the greatest pictures.

About this time, it was time for our Star Tours FP+ reservation. I was really excited since Ezra loves Star Wars and was tall enough to ride. This was a day after they started using the new scenes from The Force Awakens. I hadn't read anything about that, so I was really surprised. It was great. We had a scene with Darth Vader and the underwater creature things from Episode 1. Finn saved us and C3PO was there in the flesh. Daniel got sick because motion simulator, but said it was worth it because Star Wars. Logic. The kids were due for a toy stop, so I let them make droids in the dump shop. Who knows where those pieces are now. One day I'll learn.

We were feeling a little drained at this point so we stopped for a pre-lunch Ice Cream break. I love vacation.

You can see Ezra's droid in his hand. #RIPChristmasdroid Hes probably living in the cracks in between the backseat of my car.

After our rest it was time for.... more rest! But this rest stop had meatloaf!

Apparently the sun was in their eyes or something....excuses.

We were seated quickly, but didn't get a TV seat. :( I though about asking for one, but I kind of liked our little secluded corner.

The kids and I ordered milkshakes. I got a PB&J. Audrey got a chocolate PB&J and Ezra got plain chocolate.

We also got the onion ring appetizer, which was devoured quickly.

Audrey opted for the meatless meatballs because she momentarily forgot what family she was born into.

Daniel got the stuffed pork chop, which he said was good.

I got the sampler which was great. I only finished about half of it though.

We were wrapping up our meal a little before 12PM, so we decided to try to hit up a 12PM show. It was a toss up between Indy and Frozen and of course Frozen won. We were some of the last few people to enter the theater and were escorted to a seat towards the front but far off to the side.

The show was really cute and we were definitely laughing. We decided we made the right show choice. At the end of the show when it "snows" we were in prime snoap machine territory. We were all COVERED in it.

Frozen was on our unexpected, favorite experiences. We had a great time. We had about an hour to burn until our Toy Story fastpass so we grabbed a few Chinese theater photopass pictures.

Can you tell Audrey is tired?

Way too tired for monster arms.

In fact at this point everyone was getting pretty tired, so we made a stop at the Trolley Car Cafe. The kids got their favorite Nesquick chocolate milks.

And Daniel and I got our caramel and coffee frappuccinos. When we were done with our starbucks we still had 45 minutes until our Toy Story FP+. I took a quick census of the group and they were all in favor of heading back to the hotel and forgoing Toy Story. So I cancelled our Toy Story FP+s and probably made someone's day.

Up next: Our first time at Epcot.

What a brave boy you have for riding TOT!!!! We LOVE LOVE LOVE the Frozen show, especially the Historians!! Looks like you guys had a great time in HS!

Great read so far, just got back from our WDW trip so it's a nice reminder. =)

We loved AKL. I think next time we would like to try an Epcot area resort. We really liked the Boardwalk area. Just need to find the $$

Thanks, I got the Stitch shirt at Kohl's!

Glass doors are tricky, lol.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: All these pictures made me laugh, including the "in action" lemonade drinking at the end.

Sounds like you all had a nice day at the Studios! Merry Christmas!

I am loving your report. We are taking our girls on their first trip in Feb 2017. They will be 6 and 7. I love seeing parents like us, you don't really tell your kids what's going to happen, you just wait and see. It's much more fun that way. LOL I can't wait to read more.

Great trip and report so far! I was amazed when we rode Forbidden Journey how many people were sitting on the sidewalk outside of it, recovering. It was the quidditch that got me. Seems like it's going well with a 3 year old. DS (3 at the time) was a handful when we went. Lots of "moments." He he. Can't wait to read the rest!

Awesome report! You have me laughing throughout the whole thing! I totally get the "I'm not 18 anymore" motion sickness on rides thing. I used to be able to do all kinds of vomit-inducing spinny rides... now, if its got a few sudden turns or a loop I'm done for. :crazy2:

I may have also been guilty of "forgetting" to tell my (then) 5 y/o DS what happens on ToT. I may have also told him it was called "The Hollywood Tower"... :rolleyes1

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip! Can't wait to read more!

Hi, Deanna!

I am finally getting caught up on things since getting home and I am going to finally read your report! I'm going to type along while reading it.

I am enjoying reading your posts about Universal, since I was only there once, for one day, in 2001, and we didn't go to IoA. Part of me would like to see the Harry Potter stuff, but I am just not sure if it's worth it for me to go, as they seem to have more thrill rides that I cannot go on, where as in WDW, I feel like there's so much for me that I can enjoy.

OMG, how scary for Ezra! Thank God he was ok. That is the worst feeling, when you're choking on something. In fact, that same thing happened to me as a kid. Seems like he bounced back ok.

Glad you enjoyed Fulton's. Last time I ate there was back in 2001, and I remember it was good, and my ex really enjoyed his meal there.

Sorry your 'Ohana meal wasn't stellar. So many people talk it up.

Wow that bridge at AKL is cool. Is it inside the hotel? I've never been to that resort and I'd love to stay there, or at least see it someday.

Props to the kids for getting on Tower of Terror. :D. Not me!

Wow, lots of food at Prime Time. I would never eat there because of the teasing that I guess the servers do about eating everything on your plate, etc.

Looking forward to reading more of your report. :)

Great trip report so,far! Our kids are about the same ages. :) I look forward to reading the rest.

Thanks for joining in! It really is so much fun to see their genuine reactions.

Thanks for reading! Threenagers are definitely a handful. He was pretty good for the the majority of the trip though. He was also bribed... a lot.

I'm glad you are enjoying my humor! People who laugh at my jokes are my favorite type of people. :)

Heeyyyyy!! The bridge at AKL is inside the resort and is so cool. You really must make it out there on your next trip. The resort is beautiful.

There was SO MUCH food at Prime Time. I only ate about half my plate and at that point I didn't even care if I was chastised for not cleaning my plate, haha. Our server wasn't too big into the hijinks, so it wasn't unbearable. The food was good, but I think next time we might try something else. SciFi maybe?

Really enjoying your trip report! Looking forward to more!

:welcome: I will try to get an update posted tonight. Holidays have been crazy!

Hey guys. Hopefully I'll have an update ready this evening. Now that the holidays are over and it's gloomy January I'll need a lot of trip report action to keep my spirits up. I have post Disney/post holiday/it's about to be tax season depression. :charac2:

An Evening in France

After our early morning at Hollywood Studios, we took a nice nap at the resort and got ready for an evening at Epcot. This was our first trip to Epcot because I was a bad Diser on our last trip and skipped it. :duck:And an upfront warning, this update is short on pictures. All I had was my phone for taking pictures and the nighttime quality is atrocious.

We utilized the Disney buses for the first time to get there. It wasn't a terrible wait at AKL and was a pretty quick drive over to Epcot. The parking lot looked pretty full, so I was glad we took the bus.

Our first order of business was food and we headed straight to the Mexico pavilion. We wanted to try La Cantina de San Angel and apparently so did everyone else. The place was crazy and getting a table was like finding gold. We decided be B-E aggressive and hop into the madness. It wasn't a long wait to place our order but it took about 30 minutes for it to come out. Not really quick service but it seemed like the CMs were doing the best they could with the madness.

I spent those 30 minutes stalking people who looked like they were almost done so I could get a table. That was a disaster. I didn't want to bother people but I also wanted the people who were sitting there with empty food boats to GO AWAY! Eventually a nice group flagged me down and gave me their table. I was eternally grateful.

We really liked the food here and definitely recommend it if you're looking for QS in World Showcase. I ordered the Tacos de Barbacoa and it did not disappoint. Those things were amazing and I regret nothing. I didn't take a picture but here is a google images photo for you to drool over.

Seriously, do yourself a favor and eat these things as soon as you can. I think Daniel got the Nachos and Audrey did what every red blooded American 8 year old does at a Mexican restaurant and ordered chicken strips. Ezra ate a coconut Popsicle because he is three. We finished off the meal with some Churros that involved another 15 minute wait because they forgot to give them to us at first. It was worth it; they were delicious.

After finishing our meal and giving our table to a frantic looking family, we headed out to explore World Showcase. This basically involved us walking through the countries and Audrey begging to go to Japan so she could get Pokemon toys. We really didn't get to look at stuff as much as I'd like to and it didn't help that it was very dark by this time. Taking time to explore WS is definitely on my list for next trip.

Eventually we made our way to Mitsukoshi. Audrey picked out a Pikachu stuff animal that sits on your shoulder and Ezra got a few Pokemon figurines. We hung out for a bit in there and watched some people do pick a pearl.

We walked around WS a bit more and I got a Grand Marnier slush in France. We walked a bit further and staked out a spot on the bridge for Illuminations. I took a few pictures of the fake Eiffel tower which was lit up due to the terrorist attack in Paris.

And we took a few selfies

You can see their Mitsukoshi loot here.

Some really nice people next to us shared some glow in the dark bracelets with the kids and they were super excited.

We watched Illuminations, which I enjoyed. The kids and Daniel not so much. They weren't impressed. Disney should update Illuminations to appeal to the children and grumpy husbands of the world ;)

After Illuminations we exited Epcot with the masses and made in on the second AKL bus, which was verrrry crowded. Ezra was asleep at this point and I was holding him. Thank goodness a kind boy offered me his seat (his dad made him get up, haha) and Ezra was able to keep sleeping. I'm not sure how I would have managed to hold him and stand up the entire way back.

Up next we explore Future World for the first time.
