This trip started as a 4 night freebie we got as a “gift” for attending a presentation of some sort or another. We decided to add one big splurge at the end – a night at AKL Concierge on points.
We arrived yesterday to discover our free hotel was less than stellar. All we had to pay were taxes, and after looking at the room, we decided it wasn’t even worth that. I called MS and hopefully asked if anything might be available at Saratoga Springs. YES!! A studio for all 4 nights!! Borrowing and having a few extra points is a truly wonderful thing.
We wanted to stay at SS just to see it because it was new. Now that we’re here, I have fallen in love. We own at both BCV and BWV, and I think SS has just as many charms as either of our “homes.” I thought it would be somewhat isolated, more like the feel of OKW. Not so, IMO. It actually seems to combine the best of BWV and OKW. The feel is more laid back, like OKW, but with DD in walking distance, it offers the great entertainment possibilities of BWV.
The rooms are lovely. Beautiful. Clean and smell good (a big plus after our first hotel option). Comfortable bed. We had a very minor maintenance issue - one of the drawers in the armiore would not open. It was fixed within 30 minutes of my call.
We're in room 1336 looking out toward the West End. We can see Cirque.
The quiet pool in our area is beautifully situated - it looks out over the lagoon. I think it is a more attractive setting than the BCV quiet pool.
If I needed more points, I would definitely buy here before purchasing a resale. SS owners, I envy you. This is a very special place.

One other item: We had rented points this week (for our Nov cruise) to a family who was nervous about arriving with Ivan on the horizon. MS changed their reservation with no problems, and no holding account (only OKW was available for the family’s revised schedule). MS also told me had I borrowed points, they would have restored them to the original year. DVC may be more expensive than other “timeshares” but the quality and service they provide make it well worth it!

Thanks for taking a few minutes to post! I wanna hear more when you get back. ;)

Thank you for the wonderful review of SSR. I am so looking forward to try it out myself.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like you are having a nice time---enjoy the AKL concierge too !

Thanks for posting....we're visiting SSR in October and can't wait to see this resort ::yes:: .

ITA! That's how I felt when I got back from my great stay at SSR!

Isnt that view awesome?

Glad you are having a great time despite your rocky start. Whoever said the best things in life are free, never stayed at a DVC resort! LOL

I was delighted to read your glowing review of SSR because it is our home resort and we are arriving on Friday!! Yippee!!

So glad you loved SSR!

Our home is SSR and we spent a week their this past July. We were so impressed we bought more points again at the SSR and will return their next year. For anyone interested its a must to stay there. My two boys loved the pool with the slide that they could not get enough of. I hear if you stay there try to find a room that over looks downtowny disney and the the light shows.:bounce:

Glad you are enjoying your stay. I completely agree with your comments about SSR, we loved it and can't wait to stay again.

It truely is a beautiful resort.

We did the very same thing years ago, so long ago that when we decided we did not want our free room and called CRO, we booked a townhouse located where SSR is located now. My Mom was with us and she said that she never saw such sad faces turn to such happy ones when we were able to locate another room. I quit taking advantage of "freebies" at that point in time.

So glad you like SSR, we stayed there in June and will be back in October. I think we are going to love owning there. Glad you had a great trip.

It was really nice to read such a teriffic critique of SSR. I just love the quiet pool with the view of DTD, too. The landscaping in that area is particularly gorgeous. Curious how it is looking after the storms...

Glad you enjoyed your trip. I love owning there...only wish I had more points!

I enjoyed reading your positive report despite the weather, despite the contstruction, despite the pool or the food choices, ....

I agree with you that the quality & service of DVC is wonderful!

Yay! Thanks for the post! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the stay at SSR so much...I can't wait to see it for myself in 3 months!!!

Thanks for the report! I always get a excited (and a little home-sick) when I read such good things about my home!!

I heard that if you want to see the light shows ask for a room facing downtown disney. Take a bike ride for four or two which you can rent by the 1/2 and hr. The pool with the slide is nice if you have kids and they do activities with the kids in the pool. The quiet pools we did not have a chance to go in as the kids wanted the slide. The food there is sort of limited but well prepared. Have a great time.

Thanks for the post. OKW and BCV owners staying in 1 BR at
SSR next week.

Love hearing your report! We arrive on Saturday for our first DVC stay and we're very excited! Got to get back to packing . . .:bounce: :Pinkbounc
