If folks have a few minutes...On the subject of cheap hotels and the area in general...
Anaheim's Resort District, the area around
Disneyland, is an interesting place to research. Obviously it's a foundation made for tourists and conference-goers. The architecture of the place hide some of the neighborhoods which surround it. Garden Grove, Santa Ana, Stanton, and Buena Park are not the most economically well-off in certain areas. Also Anaheim proper has certain viewpoints about Disneyland and how much support the City offers in terms of public works and policing. Does get quite political at times.
So this means? There's a premium paid for staying in the Resort District. Whether because of location, room taxes, parking, and so on. You will notice palm trees, nice landscaping, decorative bus stops and upscale restaurants. Go 2-3 miles out in any direction and will see a different side to the town.
This translates to: Less-costly options are available if the palm trees and decorative bus stops are things you can do without. The owners of the hotels can vary, some locally owned cater to Disneyland more than others. Many of your chains will generally be fine even a couple miles out.
The accommodations: Hotel owners know they will get business regardless of the setup simply because of location to Disneyland. Therefore some will be more willing than others to invest in furniture and bedding on a regular basis. Usually reflects in the price in the hotel.
Bottom Line: Do good homework, and you generally can find a decent room even though they may not have "Egyptian Cotton" available.
