I'm about to be 29, and I've smoked a pack and half a day for 14 years. Sunday night was my last smoke. (hopefully)

Okay, its not too bad, but I feel like i have the flu. My stomach is upset, I'm achey, and my head hurts. I can't concentrate on anything. Is this normal?

Someone tell me good stuff. I'm not really craving one, I really wanted to stop. But, I'm terrified of gaining weight. Soo, I threw out all my junk food and already started exercising more than I do now.. I'm a small person, so even gaining 10 pounds will be noticeable on me. I know it sounds silly to some, but not to me!!

I'm not seeing my friends 'til Thursday. (most of them smoke) I have to go watch this band, but I'm not going to drink because that will really tempt me.

I've taken to chewing coffee stirs!

Wish me luck!:p

My grandfather quit cold turkey too many years ago to count. He had watched his brother die of esophogial cancer and didn't want the same thing to happen to him. He smoked 2 packs a day of unfiltered camels.

You can do it. He did it and still went to the corner "beer gardens" to hang with his buddies.

He never gained weight either. I think that is because he'd have starved before getting himself something out of the kitchen and my Gramma never gave him any more or less than she did before.

Good luck in this journey. Just think... you'll smell better, your hair will smell better, your clothes will smell better... and your health will be much better.

Congratulations on your decision.

My husband quit last Thursday and he had some of the same symptoms that you described. I think that they started to go away after about 48 hours. Yesterday was the first day the he didn't feel fuzzy.

Good luck to you!

I have never smoked, but you are doing an awesome thing. Good luck...you can do it!

my hubby had smoked a little more than half of his life (so far!). he was smoking when i met him way back in 1988 and was still smoking when we reunited last year! he quit this past january. it was all his decision...we got him the patches (the generic version from walmart) and he's been smoke free ever since! i am very proud of him for quitting...he hasn't even had one cigarette since then and i know it hasn't been easy for him. he smoked menthols...while he was on the patch, his best friend became those listerine breath strip things that dissolve in your mouth. after he would eat, he would pop one of those and inhale as if he was smoking, and he claims it had the same effect on him as the menthol did. he hasn't needed any of those breath things for quit a while now...

good luck on your venture! i know it's not an easy thing to do...

I am green with ENVY!!!! In fact I just said this is my last cig. I am having lung problems. I have to do it...
Congrats!!!!

You CAN and WILL do it, Andrea. Each day gets easier, trust me. You have some of the toughest ones behind you, the first few. Take it a partial day at a time, morning, afternoon, evening. Just try to make it through each one, you will be surprised how they go by. I did it and am so happy I did. My best!!!

And come to the Chicago DIS meet next month!!!!!! :bounce:

Good for you!!! Here's a little bit of encouragement, I didn't gain any weight at all when I quit. Actually I wound up losing some because my lungs were working better I went out more and did more physical activities. Wishing you all the best in the days to come!!

Best of luck to you! I quite once and it was the hardest thing I ever tried. My fingers are crossed for you! :)

Andrea, good luck!!! I don't have much advice, I never smoked, but my big incentive not to start was how much they cost. I watched my cousin buy cartons when I was a kid and I couldn't help but think of all the stuff I'd rather be buying with that money. :)

I hope it works!

I'm cheering for you! You can do this. If you think you're going to have a cigarette, put a post on the board and we'll talk you out of it. Pretty soon you won't be able to stand the smell of smoke.

I smoked for 12 years so I know what you're going through. I found that the patch really did help me. I quit 6 years ago. :)

Just think... you're a non-smoker! Atta girl!

Good Luck Babar!!
Stay strong & stay positive!
Trust me, it'll get a little easier every day.:)

Best of luck to you!!!! And Suite Disney had a great idea there. Be sure to post if you need to. We are here to help you.

You can do it!!!

And after you do, you will be amazed and so proud!!!

And you won't be able to stand the smell!

It is an unbelievable thing to give it up and be able to say, "I did it!"

Stay strong. Don't think about it. Just do it!

BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
