They called and told me they cancelled the flight we would have been on in May (Orlando to Milwaukee) and would transfer us on to an early morning flight. What good does that do as we lose a whole day then. So I just cancelled and now I need to cancel my hotel reservations, dining, and since I had an AP I'll not use them again before they expire. Not happy at all, but crap happens.

About a year ago they cancelled my evening flight home from Orlando the morning of the flight. I got a call and DD and I had to scramble to get to the airport for the only other non-stop flight home that afternoon. Lost a day of our tickets too. If you have APs to use, though, wouldn't it be better to go and have one less park day? Does SW not have any other flights that day you could switch to? With that big a time change they should put you on any other flight you want.

I guess I don't see throwing away a whole vacation because of getting switched to a different flight. What time was the flight you were supposed to be on?
Because we lose a whole day. It was a short trip to start with and now would be even shorter.

You canceled your whole vacation? How long was the trip? Was there another flight you could have changed to?

Yes, I cancelled the whole thing. Trip was Friday til Monday. No other flight except early morning or next day. I can't keep my kid out of school another day. Just makes more sense to cancel, though I'm disappointed i don't get to see the new AK Rivers of Light show for years. This was going to be last trip for a very long time, or perhaps forever.

I had also gotten Wilderness Lodge (which we had never stayed at before) for $212 a night. This sucks.

I'm so sorry to hear that. For the first time in 10 years we will be flying another Airline instead of Southwest because they went up on there cost so much,
plus have cut back on how many Non-Stop options they used to have. Saving $600 to fly the other Airline both Non-stop flights. What happened to Southwest Airlines?

Not sure when you are going but I put in a random Monday in May and it looks like Delta has a number of late afternoon/evening flights. They aren't non stop but it might be worth it to make the trip!

I was flying free on points, probably the reason they cancelled the flight.

Ok, I did get some resolution and also encountered some really great customer service reps.

I went ahead and rebooked a super early flight out on Thursday and return on super late flight on Sunday, so I get about the same amount of park hours but one less night. The SW rep was nice enough to rebook both me and my daughter at the original points total, which saved us almost 10k points. I didn't ask her to do that, she just did.

My good room rate was booked through Orbitz. In order to make a change (even dropping one night) you have to rebook and then cancel old reservation. Unfortunately the super price I got is not available any longer. So the Orbitz rep asked his supervisor if anything could be done. He ended up calling Disney to see if they could drop a night and Disney is asking for an e-mail explaining the situation and I'll have a decision on Monday. If the don't drop the night I'll cancel and rebook a room directly through Disney using AP rates.

Here's the other thing, I'm a Disney nut and willing to jump through hoops to visit.

Well then why not ask them to move you to a flight that goes in and out of MDW. Or like others have said buy a one way on another airline. You will save your RR points for another trip and just pay cash for your return trip.

They must be cancelling a number of flights out of Milwaukee to Orlando, because I got a call on Thursday night that SW cancelled my flight on June 1st. I was lucky and they were able to book me on a flight leaving 2 hours earlier the same day. I was still a little annoyed because my whole family was planning on working a half day of work, but now will not be able to. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but that is an extra half day of PTO I will have to take and my husband, who doesn't have any more PTO, will have to take a half day unpaid. I am sorry this happened to you, OP, but I am glad that you are still able to take your trip!

I can assure you that they did not cancel the flight because you were flying on points. That makes no sense cancel the whole fight because one person is on points?

But this is an example of how this airline has become like all the other legacy carriers. It used to be worth it to wait for them to put out their schedule because they actually intended to put on yet. Not anymore
