DD9 has just exited the bathtub.

With smooth legs up to her knee's and no cuts to report. I never realized teaching someone to shave was going to be such a hard thing to do. Sort of like a "just do this".....and she'd look at me goofy. She used the Intuition razor, now has her own....and has been instructed that for the next 3-4 times she shaves, it will be in the tub, with mom present.

Oh the joys of childhood.......I just went out to bring the trash down, and my downstairs neighbor- who always says "whats up old lady" (yeah he's older than me) said it- I just rolled my eyes, and thought- if you ONLY knew how old I feel with my daughter shaving...shesh!

Can remember the first time I was allowed to shave my legs.....it was SOOOOO exciting and I felt so grown-up. Now, would rather do most anything else than have to shave my legs. How things change! :teeth:

I have a feeling the novelty will wear off soon after jeans season arrives.......or at least I hope, those intution blades are expensive.

Haha, there is nothing better than the feel of shaved legs on jean. I wouldn't count on it ;)

My dd's only 4 and already needs to shave. The poor thing is Italian, French and Filippina. ;)

She shaved at 9!!!! That's young!!!

That is a bit young....I think most girls start at 12. Can't blame you OP for wanting to keep a close eye on her the first few times.

Times have changed...many of my DD's 5th grade friends were shaving their legs. Girls are maturing faster than in "our day". If I had not let DD shave at 10, she might not have ever gone out in shorts or a skirt again. She was like a fuzzy snowbeast.

Mudnuri -- if you think teaching her the leg thing is hard, wait till you do the armpits! I had to demonstrate quite a few times and then finally did it for her for the first six months or so. She seemed to want to hack the hair like it was a forest!

I had to wait until my 13th birthday for this honor (?) Times have definitely changed.

I think its great you let her shave and didnt get hung up on the age thing. The novelty does wear off quick, lol.

Try one of those Intuition razors. They don't get real close (perfect for youngsters), and the soap is right on the razor. I have never knicked myself with it. It might make you feel a little better about leaving her alone.

I also thought 9 was a little young to start shaving.
My dd is 8 and I don't think she'll be shaving next year.

I'm glad you let her start. I still bear the (emotional) scars of being a very hairy girl. Sounds like things went smoothly (no pun intended), and I expect that by jeans season the novelty will have definitely worn off. And in Vermont doesn't jeans season start in about 3 weeks ;) ?

I was shaving at 9. I'm glad they have better items out now like Intutition razors.

When does she upgrade to the upper leg?

Well, not that i really need to explain myself, HOWEVER....when your 8 year old starts asking you if she can shave, and is Italian, with very thick black hair on her legs, you'll give in when she's 9.

Good for you and her. I think you did the right thing. My dd is only 7 1/2, but her hair is so long and dark even on the tops of her legs. Nobody made fun of her this summer at the YMCA day camp, but I'm fearful of next year. I've already decided that the first time she comes home and is upset, we will be using Nair, Veet or something. I hate to think of her starting this stuff now, but she really is hairy!

Definitely you did the right thing. I had/have that dark Italian hair on light Irish skin thing going on- I was allowed to shave at age 11 but I wanted to so much earlier- luckily for me it was the mid '70s and knee hi tube socks were popular! Unfortunately so were short shorts...

You definitely don't need to explain yourself. My DD's all started shaving by about 10 or 11, but they are not Italian & their hair wasn't too dark, just alot of it.

Believe me, you'll know when your DD's are ready to shave. I let mine ask a few times, but by about the 5th or 6th time I finally gave in because I could see by that time that it was necessary.

BTW - my DD's started shaving their arm pits first. I just thought even the "peach fuzz" thing looked nasty & unsanitary. :smooth:
