This time my 14 yr. old recent 8th grade graduate was her victim!
Let me set the stage...approximately 30 family and friends were gathered around my daughter as she went about opening her gifts at her graduation party. Most were envelopes, (which she really liked), but she also got some very nice gifts as well. The only one left in the stack was from my MIL. There were actually 2 boxes, which really surprised me, since she isn't known for her generosity. My daughter opened the first box, and pulled out a T-shirt. On the front it was a picture of a goofy looking guy with crossed eyes and hair standing straight up. It said:
i be a grad-u-it
i be smart
The look on my daughter's face was priceless! She tried to look grateful, but it wasn't easy. We all hoped that this was just a joke, and that the real gift was in the other box. It wasn't long before our hopes were dashed. It was...drum roll please...
An emergency evacuation ladder for her bedroom.
According to the box it is a rope ladder which you tie to your bed in case your house ever catches on fire. You can then safely climb out the window. The first thing I thought of was that she was helping my daughter find a way to sneak out of her room when she gets older! I can't imagine why ANY 14 yr. old girl would want one of these as a graduation gift. I have to give MIL points for creativity though!
