Well, my gift-giving-challenged MIL has struck again!

Too funny! She doesn't "re-gift", does she? (Give someone else a gift that was given to her but she dislikes?) Because I simply cannot imagine the thought process for the ladder gift. Unless she is encouraging her to sneak out and/or run away??

LOL!

This reminds me of the stuff my mother gives us. Of course, she usually prefaces it with "You're not going to like this, but . . . . " and then there is some kind of "safety" gift in the box along with a matching lecture. For whatever reason, my mother has gotten increasingly fearful/paranoid as she's gotten older. Is this normal?

One year we all got fire extinguishers. Another year we all got carbon monoxide detectors . . . but I think my "favorite" was the "fire flashlight" - it goes on when the smoke alarm goes off & has an extremely bright yellowish light that's supposed to cut through the smoke. (DD loved this one when she was 2 - she'd shriek & it would go on. )

Glad I could provide you all with a laugh! With all the sadness on these boards lately, I figured we could all use it. :( :D

LOL

I thought you were going to say that DD's room was on the first floor.

I think many of you are missing the point of this gift. If Jill's DD decides to use it to sneak out, MIL can hold this over Jill's head.... a "good mother" would never allow her children to sneak out of their rooms at night. ;)

That's funny about her room being on the first floor.

I just love your stories, Jill.

Your mother in law and mine must be related. Last Christmas she gave all her grandchildren post it notes and scotch tape, that was it, nothing else. Try to get teenage girls to be grateful for that. My sister in law was so upset with her, and I was just flabergasted.

I'll bet you could have heard a pin drop when the t shirt was held up! I know I gasped!!!

I should have known better than to drink while reading your post! My drink went up my nose.

Thanks for the good laugh. That shirt is priceless!

Jill, your mil gift stories always make me giggle. I hope your daughter wasn't too disappointed.

This has to come in as at least a close 2nd in the "weirdest gift" category! ;) One can only ask WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I would love to see the thank you note for the T-Shirt and ladder :)

"This is something I have always hoped to receive!" LOL

How about birth control pills?

Yup, you heard right. Married in Oct.. 94, Dec 94 under the tree is a gift bag of BC pills....now MIL worked for OB clinic and had previously secured free samples for me....swears she never meant any harm.....so why wrap it to open in front of DH's Nana, great Aunt (who was a hair shy of being mother teresa) and BIL and SIL!!!!!!!! Now family tradition says you all go around in circle, open gift and show it off, pass around, etc......luckily it was a 2-pack and get this....attached to some free workout video that came with the 2-pack....so across the room we are sure that the aunt was unable to tell what it was!!!!!

oh, and anyone need a mini-muffin maker (like a waffle iron) or basketball hoop and backboard!???

Needless to say in 9 years the relationship has only deteriorated!!!

LOL! My MIL once went overseas and brought me back a generic bottle of sunless tanner. Oh, the love. I could really feel it!;)

LOL, thanks for the smiles, Jill. :) You will have to bring these gifts to a Chicago meet someday, we can get pictures and post them, LOL.

The others on this thread were great too. :)

:teeth: Poor you all. I can't help but giggle though. Your dd is ready for ANY kind of MIL now!!!
