My all time favorite plan of his is the "build a fence" one. :rotfl2:

We still have some parts of the Berlin Wall left - Perhaps we can sell 'em to the Shrub :rotfl2:

Then, you truly deserve his poor governance, and you have no right to complain.

Find me the person who agrees with everything a politician says. You have to vote for someone (well, you don't really HAVE to, I guess) and, chances are, you will not agree with every single thing they say. So, we all have a right to complain when the person we voted for does something we don't like. Generally, politics is voting for the lesser of the two evils. Who would you complain less about? That's the person that gets your vote.

Policy analysts have a hilarious name for this speech already. It's called the "How to Distract Americans from $3.18/gallon Speech."
Aren't you feeling a little warm and fuzzy about the President now? After all, he is protecting you from those short undereducated brown non-english speaking people who drink and deface your streets as day-laborers, and are in direct competition with you for that $2/hour asparagus-picking job, right? (there are so many Americans quietly thinking that). Thank you, George, for stepping up to the plate on this one with a plan that sounds amazing in theory and is absolutely impossible to implement in practice. I was really dying to drop another $2B on this unenforcable task, so I can dig my future children further into the deficit - that deficit that will have ten times the impact on them as illegal immigrants ever will, given inflation and macroeconomics. By the way, George, while you are at it, please save us from the Canadians? That's another border that we're not enforcing in our sovereignity. I think back and remember a video of 9/11 terrorists passing through a security checkpoint in Portland, Maine ... didn't see them in Tijuana ...

One of the early drafts of last night's speech mentioned Mary Nagle, who was brutally killed by an illegal immigrant who was powerwashing her house. He was sentenced yesterday. Here's the kicker ... under George's plan, this immigrant would've qualified for expedited citizenship. Oops ... let's cut that from the speech. That being said, I do feel horrible for Mary Nagle's family and wish them much peace.

Lord save us from the immigrants.

Awesome!

Surely not President Bush trying to improve his approval ratings with self-indulgant meaninglessness.

I guess your "tag" opposition to hatred does not extend to your words against our President.

Illegal immigrants, or illegal aliens. Lord save our country from the illegal immigrants!

Amen!

And let's build a wall and arrest and imprison those caught crossing illegally.

Do the crime -- pay the time.

... I don't normally put television over governance. Over and over again in this thread I've made the point that my objection was this person, this time, this instance, this act. I can only assume that people who continue to ignore the distinction must have no real defense for this President's action.

You were quite clear in your post, you were upset your season finale television prgoramming was interupted. I understand this is your position, I just don't understand why.

Your position is quite clear. You will give this president and his administration credit for nothing, no matter what.

Careful EC, someone might find your criticism ironic.

Are you a psychologist or psychiatrist...DS cast member? They're all very different and you've reported being each in the past year...

A few points:

1 - Sadly, I missed the Shrub on Monday, as I was out at the time. It's a shame, too. I mean, let's face it...Bush trying to govern is probably the funniest thing on television at any given time (it's either laugh or cry at the destruction of everything this country used to stand for). Besides, the guy does things with the English language that the best comedy writers in Hollywood can't manage on their best days.

2 - You don't have to "hate" the president to think he's a blooming idiot. I hate everything the man stands for and I hate what he has done to this country, but towards him I think the term would be "indifferent". If I truly believed he was evil, I would hate him. But I don't think he's evil, just incompetant.

3 - Line of the day goes to Viking..."...he would have sunk the Mayflower" had me :rotfl:

4 - Doesn't it concern you people that you are advocating a policy very similar to Joseph Stalin? :confused3 Seriously, a "wall", patrolled by armed guards....doesn't that seem even a little familiar to you?

5 - This is what Republicans do so very well. They distract from important issues - the spiraling national debt, the failing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the continued shrinking of the middle class - by throwing up these trivialities that make no difference to the vast number of Americans. I don't know which is more sad...that they keep going to the same well and playing on the fear and prejudice of people, or that sooooo many people are gullible, ignorant, or just plain dumb enough to fall for it. Worried about a political race? Get "gay marriage" on the ticket to ensure the homophobes show up in droves. Worried about the minority vote? Set up a phone line jamming scheme to stop get-out-the-vote efforts, and short those districts on voting machines so that lines are hours long. Gas prices too high? Offer everyone in the country a $100 bribe to "cheer them up" (but oh, don't call it that).

It shouldn't surprise me at this point that so many people keep falling for their slight of hand, but somehow, it still does. Surprises, as well as disappoints. :sad2:

The "he" that the viking was referring to was the Lord, as in God.

The fact that you missed that doesn't surpirse me in the least.

Who would have thought God was a Republican?? Huh........

I don't hate President Bush. I find him self-centered, misguided, and inexpert.

BTW, you can stop grasping as straws in response to my messages. If you don't have anything to say in defense of the President's actions, then you can say nothing at all. None of us would hold that against you.

The timing of all this makes me suspicious. I mean this has been a problem for a long time, even before this presidency. Bush's numbers are tanking, but what is the one issue most American's will rally around? Illegal immigration. Though we all may not agree with how it should be dealt with, most can agree that there is a problem. Sounds like President Bush is working on his popularity.

The DHS is such a mess, it will be interesting to see if any of this really pans out.

This has been a problem for a long time I remember awhile ago there was talks of making spanish our primary language. At least he is addressing the issue unlike some others. Although I dont think it has been as bad as it is now.

I know one thing I have been overseas(1989 was the year) and there were places if we didnt know their language we didnt survive. (ie went to a restaurant asked for an American menu didnt have one there although alot did. It was in french only thing we could make out that I remembered from french class was grilled ham and cheese sandwich and that was between to people who had taken some french so needless to say our entire party ordered grilled ham and cheese sandwhiches that day. Probably the most they ever sold of thoe in one day. :rotfl2: ) So if we have to know their language when visiting or living in their country why shouldnt they learn ours.

Speaking from my experience.

I feel flaming coming on.

I heard on the news that Mexico's President Fox was angry with the proposals and that Bush had told him not to worry, it's only temporary.

Temporary until the elections in Nov., I presume.

Perhaps you should have asked for an ENGLISHmenu :rolleyes2
Although a lot of people here on the boards are butchering the English language so badly that it's sometimes hard to understand, you still don't have an own language - just a borrowed one, and that not even officially ;)

Excatly what do you feel he or his administration should get credit for? Everything the man has touched has turned into a disaster. On second thought, I can give him credit for creating disasters better than anyone else.

I thought I should also add that I am a registered Republican, but I have had it with this administration and with the Republican party in general. Too much growing of the federal government, no fiscal responsibility, the fearmongering, etc. I'm no fan of the Democratic party either.

Also, the "slight-of-hand" trick is not just a Repbulican trick, it's a political trick. Many public officials on local, state and national levels have been quite guilty of this.

Gee, I for one can't wait for that fence/wall. I wonder what it will be named.

It wouldn't bother me that you are following Bush to the bottom of the ocean, but you are taking the rest of us with you. The man has done next to nothing right, yet you would vote for him, again. I just don't get it. No one could do a worse job than this president has done, not Kerry, not Nader, not Pat Buchanan. Quit listening to the nut jobs on the radio and use your own mind.

You crack me up. Immigration wasn't actually "illegal" during the days of the Mayflower, but that isn't what I find so funny. It's your pretending that German's are so much more open-minded and accepting of immigrants and immigration. My husband just returned from Berlin, where the German citizens are having problems with immigrants from Soviet blok countries and Turkey, especially the gypsies. Right? When Germany opens their borders and uses their tax money to support all the poor from Lithuania, Serbia, Muldova, etc. who wish to live in Germany and work for wages that will undermine the middle class of your country, then you can lecture us.

One thing DH thought was interesting, was the reporting in Germany of Cheney's inciting a new cold war. He said it was all over the news. Yet the story has been over-shadowed by the illegal immigrant story and the secret phone tapping in the U.S.
