Well It's Official

I received an email from calbaybwv. He said he was banned from the site.
I know he was, at times, controversial but BANNED FOR LIFE??? C'mon!
I think his posts gave some life to these boards. I enjoyed the lively banter.
I thought freedom of expression was encouraged. I would hate to feel that I have to watch what I say (type) because I might get "banned". I think some people have thin skin.
I don't know if I'm in the majority or minority but I do know calbay's witty posts will be missed by me. It seemed most of his posts had that little flame next to them. This obviously shows the interest invoked by them.
I'm not saying I agreed with everything he had to say but I thought, if anything, we could agree to disagree here. I've read many posts, written by other members, that obviously skirt the line drawn by the moderators. I don't know how many people have been banned but I know that some of these line skirters are still members. Perhaps there is some selective bannishment going on here.
For the mostpart I think the moderators on this site do a good job. Most of the time they let the thread go where it will and steer it back on track when it veers to far. I think this time they went too far (JMHO). I don't know if there was some sort of public outcry for this bannishment but if just a few, thin skinned, members got upset they should "get over it".

Like I said... JMHO.

I'm sorry if this is not the proper place for this post but most of calbays posts apeared here and I figured it would reach the most people concerned (pro or con).

If a member is banned that is a private matter between that person and the administrators of the boards. We have no wish to embaress anyone and are certainly not going to have a public debate on the issue. If you wish to have some input on this matter please feel free to email Pete or any of the webmasters.

It's quite likely that we won't find the posts that would get him banned by doing a search. I can remember some calbay posts which sure were outside of the posting guidelines and they don't appear in the search listings now.

Most of us never get to see all of the posts made here. Some offensive ones may be removed shortly after being posted and never get seen by the next morning. I suspect there is more here than meets the eye.

Swearing is part of our board guidelines, but there are others and you can find them here
These are not unreasonable requests and are for the betterment of all DIS posters. I am not referring to what happened in Calbay's instance, but if after repeated requests to follow the board guidelines a poster disregards these reasonable requests, they are no longer welcome here.

I wouldn't want to embarrass anyone. I told calbaybwv how I felt about his bannishment and specifically asked him if it would be ok to place a post here expressing my feelings. He of course said it would be ok (you didn't think he would stop being controversial, did you). I'm not looking to start a debate. I just wanted the other members to know what happened... Now they do.

All I can say is that he must REALLY have been pretty offensive to be banned since there are some people here who I think are pretty far out of line.

In defense of Calbay, I will say that I cannot personally recall seeing anything that would have called for such stringent measures. However, it is possible that any really offensive things were deleted before we saw them. I know that I have seen that happen once or twice to some pretty insulting posts.

All I can do is wish you luck CalBay wherever you are!

IMO he will be missed. I always enjoyed reading his posts. Oh well, things never stay the same.

Calbay was often rude, and went out of his way to start arguments instead of discussing topics. I'm sure the Administrators warned him a few times but he didn't want to listen. I don't mind sharing differences of opinions even if it gets heated at times...that's what makes the board interesting at times. But this guy was out of line a lot and the Administrators made the right call.

Sorry to see him go....
I found him controversial, and yes I think he enjoyed debating,but I did not see where he got anymore personal than some other people on this board may get. He liked BW, thought it was the best, and made that very clear.
There are posters that go out of there way to attack BWV's and make the owners there feel like they were less than educated when they spent all that extra money for smaller rooms and higher dues. Rarely, if ever, acknowledging that BWV owners had a choice and bought where they wanted to stay and are happy with what they bought.
