We booked for the 7 night Eastern leaving on 11/30 for me, dh, ds#1 (almost 5) and ds#2 (4 months at that time) back months ago. I was scheduled to be on maternity leave until the end of the year (ds#2 was born 7/25) and we thought this would be a nice vacation for all of us, since ds#1 loved the 4 day we took last year and ds#2 would be young enough to be portable but old enough to (hopefully) be on some type of schedule. I don't even think that the new enforcement policy concerning the pools would bother us, since ds#1 has been trained for quite some time and ds#2 would not be mobile yet and all I could do was hold him and splash him in the Mickey pool.

However, on my last day of work prior to maternity leave, dh was laid off from his job. We fully expected he'd be back to work within 2 weeks when his vacation pay ran out but it was not to be. He's been out 10 weeks now and I had to return to work after my 6 weeks disability were up.

We're hopeful that he will get something soon, but I cannot see any way we'll be able to afford to take this trip considering our financial situation...we moved into a new house just a month before, we have the new baby now, dh isn't working and I was on temp disability for 6 weeks. We're using all of our savings to cover our expenses until dh gets back to work and I don't want to put such a large expense on our credit cards.

So it looks like we're cancelling. And now, in light of the new pool enforcement policy, it looks like we won't be rebooking until ds#2 is fully potty trained. I don't want to spend that much money on a vacation and have to spend it keeping a small toddler away from the water.

So if anyone is looking to book a Category 4 cabin for the week of November 30, email me (jschultz@wolffsamson.com) and let me know before I cancel and you might be able to snag it at this late date. We booked through Costco and our payment with them was due 9/17, but they usually contact you to remind you of the date. DCL cancellation isn't due until 60 days out, which is Oct. 1.

This economy stinks!

Hope everything works out for you and that you are able to reschedule your trip in the future. Best wishes.

DH told me last night he cancelled his vaca time at work and to cancel him from our cruise. DS & I are still going and planning on having a great time - guess when we're cruuisin?
Nov 30th!

and I'm just sick over it. Looking at the thread, it looks like there would be kids for ds#1 to play with (he's going to turn 5 in early February, but is used to being with older kids) and maybe even a babysitter or two for ds#2 (he'll be 4 months by the cruise).

I keep thinking that I should just pay the final balance and wait until October 1 to make the final decision (60 days out) on whether to cancel or not. Dh had a great job interview yesterday and expects to be called back for a second, and if he gets the job, it would be very lucrative so we *might* be able to afford the trip after all. I just hate the thought of cancelling the one thing (well, maybe not the *one* thing) we've been looking forward to all year.

I'll have to talk with dh about it tonight.

Please wait until the last possible moment to cancel. DH just told me he didnt really cancel. He's driving me insane. I almost had him off the airplane and off the ship!!!

I would not pay the final balance until you are sure you are going. Costco does call about 2 weeks prior to remind you, but Disney is who actually processes the payment when you call, so if you call Costco on the 60 day mark, Disney will get their money on time. I would worry that once the payment was made, it might be tough getting Costco to refund the money, at that late stage. Maybe not, but I'd be leary of tying up that much money when it really isn't necessary to part with it until Oct. 1.

Hope things turn out well for your family.

hi - you may want to keep your ressie - i had booked a december trip to wdw one year - and then was laid off in august - i looked for another job - and thought that i would have to cancell - but didn't - thinking that if i didn't get another job - at least i would have the trip - (and i had a two & half year old & a 6 month old) and guess what - right before the trip - a great job came thru - and i still got the trip - so here's hoping a little pixie dust will let you have the trip and an even better job

I too recommend you keep that ressie as long as possible.
Prior to my three day in September, my husband came home saying he was feeling kinda insecure about his job situation (lots of lay-offs!) I waited until the last possible moment and convinced him that maybe it would just be our last hurrah!
Thank god we went.
His Co. just laid off another 700 on Wednesday , many of our friends are now unemployed. My husband was demoted, but still has a job! He just can't take vacation for the next six months!

Hang in there... sending some pixie dust your way!

this is so awful to happen to anyone. I would agree, don't cancel until you absolutely have to. Something may change for the better!

Janet... probably... Have my fingers crossed for your family! I hope it all works out for you...

I feel your pain...we have been there and done that with the lay offs. It can turn your world upside down, but keep thinking positive, things always have a way of working out. Wishing you and your family the best and keep the faith. ^i^

Hang in there Janet! I've been through the job thing twice! And after the last one landed in the most wonderful place - I can't imagine working anywhere else. Don't cancel until you have too either because of finances or the stress of debating is getting to be too much to handle.

Sending pixie dust and hopes for good things your way.

Deb

It helps to know that so many Disney addicts are keeping their fingers crossed for us.

Dh is waiting on a second interview for a good job that would pay us a very nice income. I checked and I have 21 days of vacation coming to me that I'd like to take and spend with my kids.

I haven't heard from Costco yet (payment was due with them on 9/17) and our final payment would be due with DCL on 10/1 (our cruise is for 11/30) so I'm going to wait until I absolutely have to cancel before I do.

Thanks again!!

Just make sure if you do need to cancel to do so before the 60 day point. You wouldn't want to get socked with penalties on top of the dissapointment. :(

I will keep my fingers crossed for you and your family.
