for my hair to grow out to style differently by the time we do our cruise in 2005- eh? LOL

Just curious- if either I'm super low maintenance, just lazy, or if others are this way NORMALLY also?
What I mean is- the thought of doing things like things in the spa, pool, on the beaches/sand/etc. and then every night having to FIX my hair and makeup to get dressed up for dinner.. seems a little daunting. LOL

I'm the type if we go camping- I shower but I don't even bother fixing my hair. Why bother? It will just get messed up in the lake again the next day!
I'm the type if we go to a water park all day- I don't go home, shower and fix my hair! I shower and leave it like it is. I'll then shower again in the morning & fix it if I have things to do that day that requires me looking decent. LOL Otherwise I'll just take the kids to school with it looking like it is. Brushed- but not fixed... my hair is kinda temperamental- fixing it to look decent is not an easy feat. LOL

It IS a lot shorter now though- it seems to "mind me" and do what I want better that way- but more time consuming. I used to have really long hair down to my hiney- but it wouldn't do what I wanted then and so I'd wear it in a ponytail or french braid constantly (and I mean daily) LOL

So do you all just happen to be the kind of people that ENJOY fixing your hair & makeup every evening (for dinner, maybe movie or show and then that's IT... going to bed? All that for a few hours? LOL) or do you have "easy" hairstyles that are just easy to go from pool to "dressy" for dinner??

That's the only downer I see about the trip so far- and I don't want to eat dinner from room service everynight so I don't have to fix my hair every night. LOL But I guess I have time to let it grow out a bit to where it might be an "easier to fix" hairstyle?

Oh and btw- yes, I'm the same way when we are at WDW. Almost every night my kids and DH swam in the pool- but not I. I only did ONCE, because we didn't have any plans for that evening so I wouldn't have to then spend an hour trying to get my hair to behave and look decent for that evening- just to go to bed and do it all over again in the morning. LOL

I guess I'm just a low maintenance gal. I wish I could have my hair looking so beautiful like all the pictures I have seen here WITHOUT having to spend a long time getting it that way. LOL

(ps. part of it is that it's so STRESSFUL trying to get myself ready with the kids and all. I've tried getting them ready first, during, or after I get myself ready- so far I haven't found any way for it to be less stressful. LOL Oh wait.. maybe it would be easier on the cruise! Let's see.. kids to lab/clubs, get myself dolled up, then go get them- how cool. I wish I had them at home to help with that. LOL)

But still- seriously... do you have easy hairstyles or are just really good at getting "pretty" after a day at the beach or in the pools? Does it not seem to take up quite a bit of your cruise time to do this e-v-e-r-y evening? LOL

Try to relax! It really won't matter what hairstyle you wear or how often you touch up your makeup on a cruise that's probably a year and a half away.

Take a deep breath. Wear your hair the way you would at home. Dress up a little for dinner. It's a vacation, not a grand life-defining event.

Just smile, be comfortable and have fun.:D

Hey, maybe it is a life-defining event. LOL
Just kidding..... not really stressing about it. Just thinking out loud because I do have time to "do something" about this if it's going to potentially put a damper on my having the best time ever while there!

The way I wear my hair at home normally would start more threads on this board about people coming to dinner inappropriately. LOL I don't fix my hair like that every evening. LOL

It's okay, I'm a wash and go girl myself
:wave2:

Never wear make up either.

It's just the way I have always been, now my daughter...that is a different story

Even dressing up for dinner on the cruise?
Okay you're the gal I need to talk to.... what kind of hairstyle do you have? I need a wash & go kind of hairstyle anyway... even when NOT on the cruise. LOL

It is all one length, just below shoulder length parted on side, cause it is thin in the front. But it has a lot of natural curl, when it air dries sometimes it has lovely big ringlet curls in it. (Of course, I didn't think they were lovely when I was a teenager)
So I just wash it with those curl enhancing shampoos/conditioners and let it dry by itself. I don't ever wear it up or in pony tails, cause I don't like the way it makes my face look.
Some days it looks better than others but I can't see it unless I look in the mirror  .

LOL@wig.
That might take just as long to "do"- seeing as how thick my hair is! LOL I can only imagine trying to tuck it up under a wig....

Aw, I see. I don't have natural curl- but somewhere along the line I ALSO lost my super straight hair.... so now it's inbetween. No curls- just kinda fuzzy with some waves in the wrong places ofcourse. LOL So even to have a straight "do" I have to really work at getting it straight. *sigh* But that's what I was thinking- letting my short "have to curl, use straightener, etc." hairstyle grow out about to the length you said- and then maybe all I'd have to do is help get rid of the waves. Or maybe I wouldn't have waves anymore. I've always had super long hair most of my life- and it was always straight as a board. and I mean perms wouldn't take, 2 days/nights in curlers as a child would last about 30 minutes on Christmas morning, etc. LOL But soon as I cut it shorter- stupid wave here, wave there.... no curls though. Just my luck...

Ofcourse I hated my straight straight hair as a child- what I wouldn't give for it now.... LOL

I do "wash and wear" hair and very little or no make-up. Just remember, you'll never see these people again! I am presentable, and I do dress appropriately. I brought all the "stuff" to do it up right, and frankly found it too much trouble. So...get a cute, short cut that you blow dry and let it go.

Hi Biddy. My hair is just like yours. No real curl, but it is not as straight as it once was. Fuzzy and kinda wavy is a good description.
My plan is to "clean up" on the regular nigthts. That is, brushed hair, neat clothes. The formal nights-I'll do it up right!

I am a low maintenance kind of gal, myself. Usually, no make-up, no blow dry, no hair spray. Sweats, jeans, t shirts. I paln to wear "resort casual" on the cruise-but that doesnt apply to my face and hair-lol

I feel better now for worrying about this too!

I like my hair straight...which of course means it's naturally curly. I spend about 1/2 hr on the mornings I feel up to it, using hair dryer, curling iron, straightening iron...and when it's straight, I love the look.

However, on our last trip to Disney, I discovered that I would get all set in the room...and then walk outside.

...............

POOF.

Instant frizz.

Humidity & Natural Curls = FRUSTRATION

So I'm going to just let it go natural during the day and most evenings, and on the dressy ones, I'll fight with it, and NOT GO OUTSIDE *grin*

I always said I'd never make it on Survivor unless I could take along my curling iron...:teeth:

I also don't travel with a lot of hair "thingy's" my hair is wash and let air dry and then after it dries I use a little hairspry or else it would slways be in my face. I did it that way on the cruise, too. I can't be botheresd to do all that stuff, I'm just not that high maintnence.

Don't worry about, be yourself, and have a GREAT TIME!!!

*phew* I'm glad I'M not the only one that feels like that's a bit much to fix hair every night after swimming every day. Clean=yes... fixed, which for me takes some work- oh please no! LOL
I did notice the schedules seem to be semi-formal and formal nights on the evenings of days at sea. That helps.. atleast I know I don't have to rush back on the ship to start getting this darn hai decent. LOL

LOL@the4ofus.. you and me both. My hair just does NOT cooperate in being as low-maintenance as I am. LOL I was sitting here last night thinking hmmm, if I have to fix/coif my hair every night and I go for the 14 day cruise- that's a lot of Tresemme & mousse, and Redkin rough paste, etc that I'm going to have to bring to last me till the end of the cruise! LOL My hair is just so.... so... uncooperative. LOL

I think I am going to let it grow out some though- see if it will be easier to fix that way- even for at home! LOL

I think you should go for the coif (LOL) on the `formal` night(s) and just be happy and casual on the rest. That way you won`t have to spend too much time worrying about it and still feel `pretty and dressed up`on the special nights. I can`t comment too much as my hair is maybe an inch long - I get my style and fun from lots of different colours. You might want to splurge for a really good cut from a really good haristylist - the right cut shouldn`t take hours and hours to maintain and can do wonders for your overall look! Treat yourself - and hey, if you don`t like it, like you said, you have a long time to let it grow out!

I did start going to a better hairstylist that my sister recommended a few months ago. She has done WONDERS with my hair- where before it wouldn't do what I wanted no matter how much time I spent with it... now I can. (She had to cut it perfectly to MAKE it style right- my hair is very obstinant and no amount of hairspray/etc will make it fix right and stay that way if it's not cut to make it do so- she also had to thin it- as I have very thick hair- by "texturing" it or whatever it's called.)

Whatever it is- it has made it less obstinant and atleast now when I do fix it- it does it and stays that way... it's just more time consuming than a ponytail. I'm so darn lazy. LOL It's pretty short now- but my hair grows really fast... so I have time to let it grow out quite a bit and if I don't like it -can always cut it again. LOL

I guess this isn't the right time to raise the cruise ship hair dryer issue?

…oops! I think I just did.;)

I have been thinking about this dressing for dinner too. I have 2 DS and a DH. They can all be ready in formal wear and out the door in 30 min easy. It takes me that long to shower! LOL I like to spend time "fixing" myself when there is nothing pressing to do, but it sounds like there is soo much to do on the ship that time spend primping will not be fun. I'll be wishing I was at the show or pool or something. I was considering going to the salon to have my hair done for formal night. It would be great to had the professionals deal with my mop and I thik I'd feel more "formal" if they did it. Wonder how expensive it would be, how hard to get appointments, how long it would take.

Just thinking out loud.

Uh, we're thinking the same way girl! Last night I was figuring up "other" costs of our long trip (if we do get the reservations for that) and I figured in my hair done ATLEAST on formal night- maybe semi-formal also. From what I've seen online the range is $45-64 or so for cut/dry/style. I didn't see anything for just "style"- which is what I'd need. I wouldn't want anyone but my hairstylist to cut my hair now that she's got it figured out exactly how to cut my hair to get it to behave properly. LOL

I'm of the same mind too.. thinking how I'm going to regret spending time in the room getting ready. But I think it will be easier than at home- and perhaps quicker without children underfoot- without the added stress of them underfoot the entire time requiring my attention WHILE I'm trying to shower, fix my hair, put on makeup, get dressed, etc. DH usually tries to help with this (the times he's home when I'm trying to get ready to go out/etc) but in this case he can get them OUT of the stateroom to go do something... that's not the same as in my house where he ends up getting into something on tv and they are STILL underfoot the entire time I'm trying to get ready- and I spend the entire time reminding him that he's supposed to be keeping the kids out of our bathroom/bedroom while I'm getting ready! LOL

On the cruise- I'm probably going to say here- put this on... (to DH) while I get the kids ready and then say GET OUT... and get myself ready all alone. If nothing else I can send them to the connecting room and lock the door! LOL I have noticed I can get myself fixed up a LOT quicker like during the day when the kids are in school and DH is at work-or they are off with him somewhere. ;)

I don't know how hard it would be to get appts or how long it would take. Hmmm, probably just as long as it would take to fix it myself- if not longer. But maybe it would look better and be worth the time? I dunno....
(also thinking aloud here LOL)

I just thought you'd all like to know (LOL!!!) -I did a little test run today. Now just in case you think I did that for the fun of it- heck no.. I already had to get fixed up for church tonight and my youngest's Christmas program tonight too. LOL So I figured I'd get ready earlier- while all were in school- to just SEE how long it takes me to shower and get completely fixed up nice. Shower, shaving, fixing makeup (even plucking eyebrows LOL), fixing hair (which I tried a different way- and spent a little more time on it- and it came out quite nice! I guess taking time and doing it without kids hanging on my legs made it easier to fix nice LOL), getting dressed, etc- all took about an hour. Not as long as I thought it would.
And I wouldn't have to do my eyebrow plucking every day. LOL More practice at fixing my hair this way would probably take less time also.. so I'm not as worried about it taking me forever to get "nice" for dinner.

I do have a question though- on formal night.... does that mean from what time on are people going to be dressed nice/etc.? I ask because I noticed the show starts at 6:30 (assuming we get the late dinner seating I prefer) and ends in about an hour. Well that's 7:30... dinner starting at 8:30- I could potentially see the show and THEN get ready- then go to dinner. But is everyone dressed formal for the show? I imagine they are... and if so, exactly when does this "formal night" start? I don't want to be embarrassed with my family all pool grungy/etc from the day's activities walking around or to our room/etc with everyone else already all spiffed up! LOL
