My girlfriend and I just returned from a very (TOO) short trip to WDW staying for the first time at OKW. We are BWV owners--and we did an add-on at WLV!
I could never really understand the appeal of that whole "laid-back atmosphere". We had visited OKW before, eaten at Olivia's and such, but this was the first time that I got as much pleasure just simply walking around or sitting with a carafe of Iced Tea (WOO HOO Olivia's) as I do going to the parks--maybe it's me just realizing the best value of DVC (knowing you're going back) or maybe it's just the very different atmosphere.
I was in a Studio/2225 which was nicely sized... I do prefer the BWV layout of a couch and bed as opposed to two beds, but I prefer the OKW bathroom size! Didn't hear a peep from the lock-off one-bedroom... Wasn't sure if it was because of better accoustics or just an empty room...
The buses worked splendidly! Never waited more than 15 mins. for a bus! And when we were headed to AKL for breakfast, we hopped on the first bus going to a park and figured we would connect. When no one else got on, after Hospitality House, our driver called over and got permission to drive us all the way over to the Lodge.
Ate at:
Olivia's for Lunch which I truly fell in love with.
Mile Long Bar (MK) for a snack--still a favorite.
Lottawatta Lodge (Blizzard Beach) which serves its function.
Fulton's Crab House (DD) which was wonderful!
Beaches & Cream which was fun, but I really need to try Ghiradelli's. PLUS, I wish the Yacht Club Galley had a Low fat dessert to compliment the others. I love going there instead of Beaches & Cream for dessert--cheaper, tasty, and a discount!
Last but not least: Boma @ Animal Kingdom Lodge for Breakfast--this is WONDERFUL, especially the chicken/apple/cinnamon sausage & the Frunch (Lemonade/OJ/Pineapple/Mango/Guava Juices blended).
But here's the kicker after being at OKW and spending time at AKL...
A week ago, I would have said, "Boy I wish they'd build a new DVC at AKL."
Now... I'm all for something at Bonnet Creek.
I guess you can say "I finally get it."
Nick
PS: My Guide's take on the whole Pool Hopping thing? When some members spit upon Cast Members (literally) for not letting them in a pool area, you can begin to see both sides of the story.
