Heh, I finally did manage to kill the "inappropraite [sic] discussion thread".

If anybody ever thinks they want to rip the carpeting off their stairs and refinish it, don't do it.

I had a temper tantrum about a month ago at the carpet on the stairs after it tripped me up for the second time and began ripping the carpet off the stairs. Got to the landing and realized there was no hardwood on the landing. Each tread had about 50 staples and 10 nails, each riser had about the same amount. I had to go buy special tools to pry out all the nails and staples out of 14 treads, 14 risers, and one landing.

Then I had to go buy engineered hardwood to refinish the landing after I pried off the rotted, glued down particle board. Then I had to put down a new sub floor on the landing. Then I had to pull off the trim to put down the subfloor on the landing and all the old wallpaper came with it, all the way up the wall to the second floor.

Then the paint that was improperly painted on the spindles (not by me!) started peeling off and I can either strip each one (there are about 50) or replace them.

So far I've sanded down 10 of the 14 treads, I have to mask off the entire house from the hallway when I do it because of the dust and wear a mask and respirator.

I think I"m the definitition of penny wise, pound foolish. The problem is I have the skills to do it so I hate to pay someone else...

Oooooh, I'm sooooo tired of sanding!!!

all I can say is that sounds miserable and it makes me glad I have no carpenter skills at all - so the decision to hire someone is made for me!

Hello ladies! How's everybody doing?

Didn't know if you guys saw, but there was an imposter posting around yesterday. He had put the picniptag line in his siggy, but he had only just joined the DIS yesterday! Something a little fishy with that. . . :confused3

The nerve! I didn't even post it in my siggy since I just got there at the end................

Disneyrsh: Too much work for a tantrum. Dh would kill me, and I couldn't afford to hire someone, so would HAVE to fix it myself. I'm tired for you, too!

Spent the last two days working. First went to my classroom and got all my files (and unfiled papers) and sorted out the science and social studies lessons. Then yesterday went to my friend's house and while my boys swam in her pool and played with her goats and labs, we planned the first two six weeks' science lessons for our team, and the first six weeks' social studies. It was soooo much work!

We switch kids around for those lessons both to ensure every teacher is teaching the subjects (science has a way of slipping through the cracks with teachers who are uncomfortable with it), and to ensure each child is getting a good balance. We planned one textbook lesson, one vocabulary lesson, one experiment (activity for SS), and one project (art, group work, paper) per week. At present, we have one teacher who is refusing to go along with the other four of us, so we will have Fridays as assessments unless we can bring her around.

Okay, how's that look?

I am always trying to get people to move here so their kids can be in my class! I've tried and failed with all nephews and nieces and lots of friends' kids.

Seriously, though, you might not like me if you had me. I am very tough.......I expect (and therefore I get) a lot from my kids.

Besides, I'd be too afraid of you, knowing about your propensity for temper tantrums and all! :lmao:

Hey paige and Disneyrsh. . . .how come you haven't stopped in for tea on my Mad Hatter thread? What gives? :confused3 (You too, Radio!)

Sorry, I didn't realize you had another thread......................why is it that you're two-timing us?

I'll stop by there later...........I've gotta sign off as I have a pregnancy test waiting and I need to pee now.....................

Okay, paige, but let us know those results! !

and they say teachers don't work in the summer! What I don't get though, is how one teacher can refuse to do this?

Because she wants to teach "her kids" "her way". She's convinced that her kids are the geniuses of the school every year.

Of course, I don't like that if she has any kids who need interventions they won't get them as "her kids" are all above average.............

On the other hand, she had a cow when I nominated one of her kids for g/t testing this year.........she wanted to know how I knew enough about him to nominate him. He qualified, btw.

Test is inconclusive...........how do you mess up peeing on a stick? :confused3 I don't like this new-fangled electronic thing. I like the good old "line" tests better! I have another and will take it in the morning.
