Well, yesterday was a great day for me. I really had a good time with my dad. again, I am reminded about how lucky and blessed I really am. I spent the whole day with my dad. It was a true walk down memeory lane. I took him to where he used to work and retired from. It was fun to see him all pufffy chested and feeling important. He really enjoyed saying Hi to all of his "old" friends and having a sense of belonging and importance. Then we went for a ride to every house we ever lived in. That was also fun too. I got repeated history lessons about "this is where I lived and had to walk 20 miles uphill through the canal banks to feed the pigs from the garbage dump...." and of course the return trip from feeding the pigs was also uphill, but it was nice to reminise about things that my dad was remembering. The tour of old houses was also quite interesting as they have all changed!!! Some more drastically than others, but nothing stays the same. We visited reletives that I now remeber why I don't visit....I think he was feeling the same way, and then headed back to my step brothers house for a little family gambling...I mean gathering. Lost some money, had some fun and decided to call it a night. Again, another eye opening moment for my yesterday...I have come to see just how old my dad is getting. His memory is fading fast and he has learned how to enjoy life at this point in his life. Makes me wonder if he knows something about his mortality that I don't know...as I have NEVER seen my dad be so candid and and truely have a good time like he did yesterday. I am happy for the time spent and very fortunate to be able to enjoy my dad's company. It was a fun, but exhausting day!!
Shep, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. We are all here for you when you need us. {{{{{hugs}}}}}
