Boys & Junior are watching a movie, so I decided to come play on the computer. :teeth:

Nancy, prayers on the way for your MIL.
Cute gang you have there. ::yes::

Beth, things are good. I think I've recovered from Junior being gone. :teeth:

Nancy, what a family. I think you and Kristy have the market on the BaBs! So when does the sew project need to be done?

Bothas, Oh you guys! :rotfl2:

Hey Sherry, glad you stopped by. Missing ya.

Washing clothes, went to the gym after work. Playing here.

Good to see you, Sherry.

Haven't gotten an update yet today :(

Me?? Nah...I think Beth still has me beat on BaBs ;)
Our our host has gotten 8-9 off ebay in the last couple weeks :rotfl:
We seem to have a massive rescue operation going on ;)

Sewing project is a Halloween costume is for Halloween. I think I will have th skirt done by Friday, so Christin can try it and we can adjust the elastic.
But....the vest is being bad. My machine does NOT want to sew on it  It just won't do it.

Cold and rainy here today. :umbrella:

Sherry, glad that you are recovered from Junior being gone. I couldn't imagine that long w/o him!

Lily, are you trying to tell us you're an angel? :rotfl:
Sorry couldn't resist ;)

Nancy, I had issues with the sewing machine and a fabric... then I found out I needed a different needle for the fabric I was using  I hope you get it to work though!

I'm off to bed soon... still drugged, but I think the congestion in my throat is finally starting to break up more :)

LOL!!!! Nope, it's Kristy! I "only" have 5 (as long as I stay away from eBay!) but I think Kristy has something like 13!! And you've settled on names for the new ones without meeting them already?!! I can't get over how cute Bianca is in the Tinkerbell outfit!!

I cannot believe I have spent almost the entire day on the computer.......I'm hooked on http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=826364 which is well over 500 pages! These people are soooooo creative and I'm so happy they are sharing their talents! Got several t-shirt transfers made for our upcoming trip and looking for more.

Feel better soon, Elaine. I hate it when allergies lower my resistance and I end up with a cold!! Glad you got Cleo's meds into the right place :rotfl:

Morning all! I was thinking on going to my sister's today to visit her new kitty, but haven't decided yet for sure

Lily :p
You're just as much of an angel as I am ;)

Bethie, I've looked through that thread and wow! What are you thinking of for this year? I love all the shirts & stuff you've done in the past :)

Morning All,

Off from work today due to the holiday. Have to work tomorrow instead. The kids are home with me today. Dh is at work. Eldest ds has some projects to work on for school so we are going to have a quiet day.

Tara I can relate to kids and homework. I have two of them, both ADHD and trying to get them to get their homework done is interesting to say the least and has been a very BIG stressor in my life for the last few weeks. We instituted homework must be done at aftercare but still not all of it is getting done.

Nancy I have been saying prayers for your MIL and your family. What a hard decision to make about the medications.

Elaine Im so sorry you are feeling under the weather. We have some sort of flu thingy going around our city too, thankfully none of us have caught it. Our doc hasnt gotten the flu shot in yet but we are on the list to be called when it comes in.

Well gotta get eldest ds up so he can work on his projects. I will checkin laters.

HUGS TO ALL!! :grouphug:

Good morning everyone....still rainy and dreary here.

Elaine - how are the allergies today?? Can't wait to hear about the new kitty!!

Chiming in about the homework issues - add kids - I have yet to see Chris do homework this year.....very conflicted on this - do I hound him?? or do I just let him "dig his own grave"?? Bottom line - he hates school - always has and will do least possible to get by. Do I agree with that - no - do I think with help he could do better? Absolutely - hence the conflict....

Going out for a while today - feel the need to look for a new purse - lol!!

More later.......

:wave2: Good morning.
Hope everyone is well today.
Kitty visiting sounds like fun.

MIL is doing a bit better.....they have her sitting up a little. :)
She thinks she is in England.....good drugs :teeth:

Nancy,
Glad to hear that your MIL is doing better. Is she having tea with the Queen this afternoon??!!
:rotfl:

(I'll have a little something-something that she's having!! ;) )

Hi y'all! A bit foggy here still, but I think I need to get out today, so I am going to visit my sister's new kitten!

Karen, not to sound weird, but is the doctor Jewish? Or is there another holiday I am missing

Paula, half of me says let them hang... my parents did it with me actually. I nearly failed English twice (simply not turning in papers). My parents found out after the grades came out and made me do the papers and turn them into the teachers as punishment during the summer. Obviously my grades stood, but I still had to do the work anyway. So wait, they let me hang and then they punished me.... huh... turned out okay though :teeth:

Allergies/cold thing... eh, it's really not all that bad! I just am not able to sleep as well as I would like to really. Once I can get a good nights sleep I doubt it will hold me back at all :)

Them sounds like good drugs Nancy ;) I am glad she is doing better though :)

I'm with Pam's idea too :p

Paula,
I was waiting until someone else posted a suggestion on Chris's school situation.

I'm torn. I don't know what to tell you.

My daughter is very much like yours. Totally dedicated as a student - loves to make all A's and Dean's List. She studies on the weekends. You call her at night and she's studying....

DS, on the otherhand, sounds as though he has many of Chris's tendencies. He hates to study. Never brought home books until last year. He's happy to skate by on As & Bs. Sometimes he gets a C in math. This year, though, he's in AP History, Physics with a Lab, Trig, etc., etc. -- a full course load. He's cracking the books every night!

I totally see where Chris is coming from about hating school - I did, too. But it sounds as though he's a very bright young man. I know that you have had conferences at school, tried grounding, tried sweet talking.

Even if he doesn't want to go to college, he might want to enroll in a trade school. They will probably look at his High School transcripts. Employers may want to know his performance in HS.... I would stress to him that his poor study habits/school performance many come back to bite him in the butt in the future.

 I'm sorry. I don't have any advice for you.

Coming out of lurkdom for Paula...You can only push the kids so far before they totally rebel and eventually drop out. I agree with Pam's suggestion for trade school. We have a program here that is vocational training for kids who are not college bound (at this point in their lives). They have automechanics, masonry, plumbing, construction, and then they have comsmetology, lpn, childcare for the non mechanical students. These kids go half day to the high school for math and english and then go the other half to their vocational training. It helps the kids get a direction in life that will lead to a job, more job training, or a technical college. (this is all from the perspective of a teacher....not sure if that will still be my mindset when my kids get there...but at this point in my career this is how I would try and send my sons if they were in the same boat as Chris.) Good luck to you!!

returning to my funk!! Love to all!
tara

Okay drank some Coke to help wake my brain up a little. To give a serious bit here...

I wasn't joking. My parents let me hang myself. I would've had to do summer school or something if I had two quarters that were as bad as my last were. This happened both 8th & 9th grade. There was a lot going on with me mentally at the time. Some of it my parents weren't aware of. Some of it, they still aren't  If you want a lot into it, I'll PM you cuz I do have some family that lurks around these parts ;) But there were issues in my life, and we found out much later that I am dyslexic and on top of that bored. I absolutely hated school and to this day it would take a LOT of pushing to ever make me go back. Actually college got easier after a while because I was taking things that interested me more. Probably how I survived HS... I was able to do all the music classes I could squeeze in.

But I mad a great habit out of never going to class the first few years of college (or skipping when I could in HS) and almost never studying yet getting a C. HS was easier for me and if I did my work, I got honor roll. Granted my parents were strict and I saw when I got it together, they got off my back. By the time my senior year of HS hit (I had ups and downs... down around 8th & 9th grade, big up by my senior year, down my first two years of college and really up my last year and a half) I was making almost perfect straight As but I was given freedoms. Thta worked for me... it took a long time because the downs were *really* down and I kind of stopped caring about a lot of things.

So no, there isn't a real easy answer sometimes. Sometimes knocking a kid down when they are already pretty low is the worst thing in the world (it was for me)... but when they feel the rewards after being down once they are good it is a great high. And a major key for me was finding something I *really loved* to do! Real interests got me very far in school! Anywho... good luck!

With that I am off to visit my new kitten-niece :)

Many , many thanks to you Pam - Tara and Elaine - just your thoughts have made me feel better.

More Chris details - some fact - diagnosed ADD with Anxiety disorder in 6th grade after many stressful years - also has insomnia - on meds for ADD (STrattera) and Metadate for sleeping - refuses to go to counselling - went before - hated it - only told the counselor what she wanted to eahr - my reasoning that it can take more than 1 counselor before you find the right one fell on deaf ears.
My opinion - yes - Chris is very very bright - as are most ADD kids - has always hated school (begged me to home school him in elementary school) - I have tried suggesting trades - opur towm does not have a vocational school but they do bus to another town - he would not even discuss it - says "that's for dummies" - so - this year he is in a different program - specifically designed for kids with focusing issues etc - my husband went to the meeting last year - says it's perfect for him - what does he think....."I'm in the dummy program".....Now I could very well say "you put yourself thre by not getting better grades" but I know that negative things only enhance the anxiety....
Chris always seems to set unrealistic goals for himself - instead of dealing with who he is and his strengths he sets goals that he can never attain and as a result never seems happy.....(note here - my husband is the exact same way)....
Also - I'm seeing possible some OCD tendencies coming back - what ever his newest "obsession" is whether it be electronics , cars - etc. he sits and constantly makes lists .....
Thanks so much for letting me spill my guts.....I really just want the best for him....I think god every day that he is healthy - has not gotten into any trouble, etc.
If only a mothers love could fix it all......

Oh, Paula. You are so correct in thinking that if "only a Mother's love could fix it all...." :guilty: If that was true, our kids would NEVER have any problems.

You tell Chris that he is sooooo wrong about the Vocational programming! Our school district partners with another one about 20 miles away. Tons of DS's friends go there for 1/2 day, some are in computer training, others mechanical, electrical, etc. These kids are graduating HS and heading off to lucrative jobs.

hugs to you paula!! If he could only see that the vocational training is not for dummies!! Heck, I think most of them make more money than I do!! Good luck to Chris!!! If I find the solution in my teacher bag of tricks I will let you know!!
