Welcome to the WISH Biggest Loser 7 Challenge

I'm down 0.2 pounds this week. Basically that's a maintain, but considering I ate like I was trying to gain last weekend and did zero exercise, I'm thrilled.

QOTD for Friday: Tell us what is working for you, what have you learned so far, and is there anything you want to “tweak” in your current plan that will help you reach your goal?

This is my first ever attempt to lose weight on purpose. So I've had a lot to learn and a lot of mistakes to make. So far, I think the biggest thing that I have learned is that I can go harder or longer than I think I can when I am working out. I have always felt bad for the people on the Biggest Loser for having to go harder than they think they can, but you know, it's not so bad when it's over.

I've also learned that losing weight is a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. This is something I have heard all my life (thank you health classes), but is very difficult to internalize. Therefore, I have not made any changes that I will not be able to maintain after I reach my goal weight. So, instead of focusing on getting rid of things that will make me feel like I am denying myself and that I will just go back to eating, I have decreased portion and frequency. I know that this will make it a more difficult and slower process, but I am willing to do that and not feel exculded. I've also increased the amount of fruits and veggies that I eat. I didn't realize how little I was taking in each day and have made a conscious effort to increase that. Thank you lisaviolet for your motto. It's now mine too if you don't mind.

As far as tweaking goes, I need to step up the work outs. I know that I could do more longer and I have the time, so I need to take advantage of that. I also need to be more consistent about eating breakfast. I just forget most of the time and I need to keep that metabolism going!::yes::

I have begun to believe those people who told me that I am not eating enough when I excercise. That point was proven the past 2 week when I lost only when I did not excercie. I have to tweak the way I eat when I excercise. My question is:

How do I figure out how much more to eat? I am on WW and I am only supposed to add 1 point for the amount of excerice that I do but that doesn't seem to be working.

Congratulations to those who lost and chin up to those who gained. I know how you feel, but it's a new week. Keep on pushing forward.

I am not sure what you are doing for excersise. Are you calculating using the calculator? However, if you do 30 minutes I would proably try two points.

I am walking on the treadmill on an incline of 5. I remember when I first calculated it with the calculator it seemed lke 1 was the right choice but maybe I read it wrong.

Thanks for all your input.

Down 1.5 this week on my home scale I use for BL. But WW scale said only down .6 :sad2: I'm still not back to where I was at WW on 12/19. UGH!!!!! and I was only up THREE pounds!!

Oh well.....the journey continues...... and DD is still in pain & still no clue. She's been home now for a week! Driving me NUTS!!!

Reading this made me realize something I did worse on this week. Breakfast! I don't usually get up early enough to eat at home, and will normally have something easy in my first hour at work. This week, I wasn't getting to that breakfast food until 4 hours into the day.

I love it when the doorbell in my head goes off, and I learn something from someone else's posts.

That's a long time with no clue. I hope it gets figured out and the pain goes away. :grouphug:

Hi everyone!:wave2: I'd love to join in with you all. I have been struggling with my weight for the past few years now, am about 40 lbs heavier than I was 10 years ago, and I'm feeling it. My biggest obstacle, other than loving food, is that I was diagnosed with a muscle disorder that causes my muscle tissue to break down with normal activity, as opposed to breaking down with strenuous/vigorous activity. There really isn't any treatment for it other than not overdoing it, which really puts a crimp in an exercise plan.

I pretty much know what I can tolerate, and what I can't, so I thought I'd start out walking on the treadmill in short bursts several times a day and see how that works out.

Anyway, I am so looking forward to being a part of your group, and seeing all your weight loss stickies all over the boards is what motivated me to come here.:)

" Question of the Day - What is your specific measurable goal for this 12 week challenge?"

Since I'm starting late, this is a 7 week challenge for me. My goal is to lose 7 to 10 pounds by March 27th. My plan is to write everything down that I am eating daily, as that seems to help me, and to continue to drink at least 64 oz water daily. I think I need to scale down my portion sizes. I hardly ever eat sweets, but I love salty things like potato chips, and snacking in the evening while watching tv was one of my bad habits. I've already come up with a plan for that a few weeks ago. I now make myself knit if I sit down to watch tv. That's my new rule, and I've pretty much stuck to it so far. Can't eat and knit at the same time.

I was also drinking wayyyy too much coffee daily, about 10-12 cups, with creamer. I've cut that back to 2-3 cups in the morning, and drink plain tea the rest of the day.

I cook almost all of our food, and we do eat healthy, so I know my problem is portion control and not exercising, and that pesky evening snacking.

Hi!
I'm down 4.6lbs this week- and shouting it from the rooftops! LOL I know I just started this thread but I actually started back on Jan 4th and I've had some weeks with no loss (maintaining by going up and down all week) -so this was a really good week! I know from the past (when I lost 80lbs in 2003) that usually after the first few weeks my weightloss slows weigh down but also know from perusing my old fitday journals that I had a cheat every once in awhile. I didn't realize how many times I cheated till I really read back day thru day those 8mo or so. This time no cheats so I can get as close to my mini-goal as possible before our cruise at the end of May!

QOTD for Friday: Tell us what is working for you, what have you learned so far, and is there anything you want to “tweak” in your current plan that will help you reach your goal?[/COLOR]
I learned in 2003, after years of trying practically everything known to man- that lowcarbing (cutting out sugar and bread) and eating whole/fresh foods instead of processed foods is the only thing that works for me. And it works well for me! I've learned how to make my diet a variety with various SF recipes, I've learned that cheats are not worth it, and that I can't go off this way of eating without the lbs slowly creeping back on me over the years. Right now no tweaks necessary- except minor tweaks as I go along mostly on what things I can eat without stalling me/etc. but I worked thru those tweaks years ago and thanks to the miracle of fitday still keeping all my diaries/etc. all those years ago- I can pretty much work with what I already learned years ago. That's so awesome- less tweaking this time just going by my experiences back then! :)

I've learned that one week of falling off the wagon equals two -three weeks to get back to where you were. Not worth it!

This is so true. And it only gets worse the longer you stay off the wagon. I wish I would have thought of this last summer.

Well- I'm 'holding. Down a few ounces I guess, but I don't count that. Been eating well, the pool was closed all weekend and I didn't go every day I could have but I have been doing the treadmill/stepper every day I don't work early.

Been going through some emotional stuff- old stuff that hurt me terribly then (10 years ago) that I don't need now. I guess we're all human- I just need to move on fast and I have a tendency to not let go.That's all I can really say about it except for the fact that I am somewhat dejected.:sad2: I wish I could just power up and have a great attitude and get on with it and be so strong-- but I am weak when it comes to this person. I think the best I can do is just let it roll...
This is how I start eating by the way-it's all about emotional eating for me. I'm pretty sure this is how my weight gain started the last 10 years also, so at least I have learned that from it.
You shouldn't be punished for losing a few pounds and looking more attractive! Yesterday at the pool a lady told me I should pose nude for artists because I have a great--venus like body. (lol great) makes me not want to go to the pool. I know I shouldn't feel that way but this is bringing up all the old old old stuff about my body maturing and getting the wrong kind of attention-from the wrong people also. I don't like it.

Well at least my back is doing much better- I even canceled my physical therapy because I feel I just don't need it and I am delighted at my clothes fitting better. I also do have more energy--something I thought was a myth to sell weight loss products on tv. Well I hope no one minded me venting emotionally too much- I thought it might help me as there possibly others here who could possibly relate. This is kind of safe territory

Down 1 pound this week. I'm really surprised because I haven't done well at all this week. I really expected to gain! I am even wearing some scrubs today that I haven't worn in forever. They were way too tight around the hips, and now they fit great.:cool1:

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Well, no change here this week. This is the first week I've not had a change. But it's ok. I figured it was going to happen. I had a cold working on me yesterday so I didn't work out at all and well, I was feeding that cold. ha.
And I didn't work out on Monday.

What works for me is EXERCISE, and more of it. I do try and eat healthier and watch the carbs but I just can't do that the rest of my life so I just try and keep them in moderation. Water also helps me . I always do better when I drink my water on a regular basis.

Down 4 pounds this week. :) Congrats to the losers and :grouphug: to those who gained this week. Have a great weekend.

Isn't that a great feeling!

I am sitting here right now in a pair of Size 10 pants I bought a few years ago. They are VERY nice pants and were a great deal, but just a little too small, then they got TOO small and this fall they were back to a little too small.

Last weekend I tried them on again and :cheer2: They fit!

LuvBaloo- glad you posted because I was thinking "what do I need to tweak?" and then you nailed it - breakfast. This week I maintained, which is good but also bad since I've been exercising. I expected a loss. My breakfast has changed to yummy little whole wheat high fiber bagels w/cream cheese - I'll switch back to my also-tasty cin. oatmeal or fiber one caramel delight cereal.

I'm worried about Sunday and trying to come up with a plan...dd has a cheer competition and she's on at 8:30, 3:30 and awards at 6:15 so it's a full day at the convention center. I think I'll pack some illegal contraband (food!) and cart it with me. I need to be able to avoid the nachos temptations -it will save me calories, fat, and lots of $!

Goldcupmom - so sorry about your dd! For her and you. Has she had any vaccinations lately? Just a thought.

I am so pleased to announce I am down 2lbs this week and I weigh less now then on my wedding day!!!
