Welcome to the WISH Biggest Loser 7 Challenge

Good Thursday evening everyone. We are almost upon the end of our second week. I will be your new coach starting tomorrow for the thrid week of our BL7 Challenge. . .

I want to thank this week's coach "Eeyore's Butterfly". Thank you so much for all your dedication and hard work!

So everyone - Let week 3 begin!! Good luck at your Weigh-in's this week. We rock!!

:thumbsup2 THANKS, Eeyore's Butterfly! Great job! And Melanie...on with the show!

I have learned that I have to plan, plan, plan so that when things go crazy, which they will, good food is there. Being unhealthy is not going to help me deal with all the little and big things that life throws at me.

You said a mouthful (of good advice!) there, Lisa. Good luck next week!

The sports game that comes with the Wii will alone give you countless hours of fun and is guaranteed to leave you sore the next morning!

Steve is right. In fact on Wednesday, our local newscast reported the increased number of doctors seeing patients for "sports related" aches and pains. There is even a name for it.....wiiitis. :rotfl: So before you work out, remember to warm up!

Good morning everyone. I have been starting to really watch what I am eating and I have worked out more than in the recent past but I still gained 2 pounds. I am not really okay with this but I can accept this as a place to make a U turn. I am starting to cut out all sugars and trying to cut out white flour also. MY eating has been better this week. I packed my lunch everyday and it has been mostly fruits, veggies, 1 string cheese and a whole wheat wrap. I am starting to make sure that I have oatmeal for breakfast. I just have to control what I eat when I get home from school. That could have been a lot better

Better luck next week.

Good luck everyone else

Dona, don't get down on yourself. Our bodies are such fickle things. We work hard, we eat well, and still it hisses at us. This is one reason that we shouldn't get on the scale every day. Keep your chin up, keep the healthy snacks on hand, and put a sticker on your calendar every time you resist temptations. Bet you'll see that the good things FAR outweigh the slips!

For me, I lost another little bit. My goal for the weekend-if I venture out in the cold :cold: -will be to locate a decent pedometer. I know that I can order off of costco.ca, so that may be the route I take.

Stay strong everyone! Hope the weigh-ins are what you want, and like Melanie said.....report one way or the other! Off to PM Brenda now!

Good Morning,

I am so bummed because I gained .2 pounds. I have stayed pretty much OP except for one day and I didn't really do that poorly that day. I excercised every day but one also. I'm not sure why I didn't lose. Even my husband was shocked that I basically maintined my weight. Any ideas? :sad2:

Sometimes our body goes into shock when we start mixing it up. When we start decreasing our calories, I believe it says okay, I've got to go into starvation mode and will hang onto calories with a tougher hold. Are you eating enough calories with the exercise you are doing? Are you getting in enough water, eating too much sodium? Is it close to your TOM?

There are many things it can be attributed to...the main thing is to not get frustrated but keep pushing forward. Here's a :grouphug: for you!!

I am trying to decide whether or not to buy a Wii and Wii Fit (would have to buy both, since we don't own a Wii). A gym membership's not in our family's budget for a while. The only exercise machine we own is an elliptical, which I have rarely used (mainly because it's located in the basement). I have not consistently exercised since my kids were born, and I need to get a fresh start. Have to be smart about it though, because I've developed high blood pressure.

Any advice about the Wii Fit would be appreciated. What should I budget? Is it worth it?

I would say buy one! We don't have one but everything I've heard about the Wii Fit is fantastic. Maybe you can see your elliptical to get some money for it. Check amazon or walmart.com for prices. I think Wii is $250 and maybe Wii Fit is $100...I may be really off base.

Another thought is move your elliptical upstairs, do you have a place you can put it? We have our treadmill behind the couch so we can watch a show while we're on it. (doesn't always get us motivated though!)

I would love to get a Wii but it's not in our budget right - but we do have PS2 and I have my new game for that so that'll work. With these crazy temperatures right now our budget is going to be blown with the heat! our heat in on "emergency" right now, it can't keep up. :faint: I'm dreading our electric bill next month.

Donac and pianogirl - ditto to what TammyNC and Debbie said! Don't get discouraged. Heck if they can only lose 1 pound or even gain on BL with all the help they have there, we should expect them at home. Of course that doesn't help with frustrations and feeling like it's not worth - just keep it in mind, post here and look past it and toward your next goal. HTH, I think I'm rambling...

COW Week 2

Sorry for the latness guys. I got hung up yesterday and never got the chance to come online.

Here is a refresher of the COW rules in case you are new or forgot. I will post a new COW sometime every Thursday. Each challenge week begins 12:01 am Friday morning and runs till midnight Thursday night. I figure posting the COW on Thursday gives you a little time to “plan” out how best to complete the challenge before the clock starts. Please email or PM me your score by Monday morning of the following week. (So tomorrow’s challenge score is “due” the 26th, although I recommend you pm or email it to me on Friday when you email Brenda your weight.)
If you chose not to do the COWs at all, or only get around to doing a few items on the list that is perfectly fine. The idea is to get you thinking and doing new things on this road to a new you, not to stress you out.

So here is how this version will work. Every Thursday I will post a new task to add to the previous tasks. This should help you establish good habits during this BL. I got this idea from the 12 days of Christmas song actually. So,

Week 1 all you need is the partridge and the pear tree
Week 2 you will need the turtle doves and the partridge
Week 3 you need the French Hens, turtle doves and partridge
And it goes on

So, week 2 is still pretty easy. Keep drinking 8 cups of water a day and add in 3 servings of veggies. So when you report in this week, you will say 5 days of water and 4 days of veggies.

Little hint, you will need a pedometer next week, so you might want to find yours or go out and buy one.

Good Morning,

Hang in there you guys! Your body a lot of times just takes time to adjust to the changes you've made. Also, look at your exercise regiman...sometimes when you do the same things over and over, your body tends to adjust to that and all it takes is a "shock" , as in, doing something you don't normally do. If you are walking every day, do something like cycling or kickboxing, or step. Also, throw in some weight training ...but remember, there is a good chance you will gain from weight training because muscle weighs more than fat. And, as someone said , it is true to remember if it is close to your time of the month...I really don't want to weigh around that time but I'm just going to remember that my weight usually fluctuates about 3 pounds then and it's OK.

I don't want to sound like an expert on anything but , I just am afraid of doing no carbs at all...this is just me and I just know that I will not be able to live like that the rest of my life...i love breads, etc. I did do it one time in my life and I was very lean but I just won't do it again for a long time period because when you do go back to eating carbs, you gain it back FAST. This time around, I'm trying to concentrate on exercising and cutting back on carbs but allowing myself some and just eating things in moderation. Then, like if it's a week before beach time, I may cut the carbs just for that week.

I did report a loss this week but I don't anticipate much of a loss for next week. Going out of town (I hope/think)and will visit one of my fav. restaurants , and it's closer to my TOM but I will try still try to do well.

I'm trying to remain focused on how I'm feeling and how my clothes are fitting instead of that number on the scale.

Hang in there you guys and everyone else that may have gotten frustrated this week. You can do it. WE can do it.

I'm not a huge Tom Petty fan but think of the words to this song....

"Well I wont back down, no I wont back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I wont back down

Gonna stand my ground, wont be turned around
And Ill keep this world from draggin me down
Gonna stand my ground and I wont back down

Hey baby, there aint no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I wont back down."

Remember there is NO easy way out (to do it the right way)...we just have to remember it's going to take time and a different way of looking and thinking about food and exercise. And remember, some people will try and sabotage what you are doing. Except on here , I've not really told but a few people of my goals beause of just that. So, don't let anyone around you do that to you and don't let the scales beat you down!!! Don't back down!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Thanks for the info on the bodybug, sounds like something I will have to invest in, in the future. I'll be anxious to hear your progress soon.

TaeKwonDo is AWESOME!!! My DS started it 6 years ago, and is a 1st degree black belt, DD is a high red, testing for black belt in June. I have been going to the classes to watch my kids, and it looked like something cool to do. I had said "when I loose the weight", but after years of not losing it, I decided to give it a try and use it to help me in my weight loss battle. I do believe this is the "thing" that will get me there. Not just because of the exercise but completely because of the change in the mental attitude. There are things I would have NEVER done because I was waiting, wishing my life away, until I lost weight, but I have learned to love and embrace my life. More than you can imagine. Above I mentioned goint to a TKD competition, and WINNING. I only decided 2 days before hand to just "screw it, just do it", mostly because I could do no less than what I was asking my kids to do. I needed to be a positive role model, not just for my kids sake, but my own. So I have been doing this for 1 year. I started last January, this journey has taken a long time, but it is so worth it.

AND, hmmm, you don't live too far from me.... Now I am going to be on you to join me!!!! How cool would that be to work out with a fellow DIS'er and WISH'er!!! Get ready... I am going to bug you!;) :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

So , I'd have two BODY BUGGS THEN?!?!?!? sounds great!!!:thumbsup2

Hey guys, I am TIRED, I have been on call 5 days this week, and called in on 4 of those days. Yesterday I got called at 10pm and got home at 3:20 am. I am sleepy. Had to be back to work today by 7:30 am. But luckily I got to go home early, so I took a 2 hour nap after bribing the kids to clean and do homework while I slept! It worked!:thumbsup2

I had a MAJOR victory today. the bribe was going to get subway for lunch. First we stopped for a lottery ticket (wish me luck!;) ) and as we got out of the car I smelled McDonalds french fries (my achiles heal) and I wanted something greasy in the worst way, but if you remember McDonalds is off limit for 100 days. Well right around the corner is Culvers, and I LOVE their onion rings, so I was debating about getting the sub and then heading over to culvers for their onion rings. At subway I just made the decision to stick with the baked chips and enjoy them!:woohoo: So I made it through that temptation, and thoroughly enjoyed my lunch. I saved myself 256 calories and 20.1 gm of fat. I am so proud of myself!:cool1:

NOW SEE??!?!?!?!? All day yesterday the theme song for the BL song kept going through my head and I thought we should have a daily "What have YOU done today to make you feel proud?" (It's never too late to try....What have you done today to make you feel proud?) feature on this thread and this story of your victory would fit the bill for you! I'm proud of you VIJA! WTG!!!

Friday's Question of the Day: What is your favorite workout DVD and Why (or if you don't have one - your favorite way to exercise and why) and What is your favorite Diet/Health book and why?

Welcome to Week 3 of BL7
:moped: :drive: :moped:

Keep on that wagon - One day at a time, One meal at a time!
If you fall off, we will pick you up!! Remember we are all in this WAGON together. Keep on driving!! :drive:

Today is d-day for me. Today I start with my very restricted diet for 6 weeks. It is really not the hard (willpower aside) to stick to the plan when things are status quo, but tomorrow we are having friends over and they want to go out to eat. One of the big rules is no oil in any form, so I have to be careful with anything "grilled" since they often oil the grill to prevent sticking and I cant eat it. It is really a pain!

Wednesday's QOTD: What is your motivation to lose the weight?

My temporary motivation is purely vanity. I hate being the big girl. But there are long term motivators as well. DH and I want to have a baby in the next few years, so a healthy mommy is required. In the long long term, I have watched my mother and aunts struggle to lose weight for as long as I can remember, so ideally I will make good habits now and wont be in their boat when I am their age.

My thermometer from this morning:

Jan15-2009.jpg

That is just unpleasant! :lmao:

Monday Question of the Day: What is your favorite workout DVD and Why (or if you don't have one - your favorite way to exercise and why) and What is your favorite Diet/Health book and why?

Favorite DVD is probably Firm Standing legs from probably 20 years ago, although I have not done a DVD workout in 2 years or so. I have a gym membership and a personal trainer, so there is no need. If I am too lazy to leave the house, I have a wii fit and a jump snap (jump rope thing without the rope). Man it burns calories!

And this is by far my favorite book. I re read it when ever I need motivation. it is real people. So have lost 50 lbs and others just 5, but they are all just like me.

How to Lose 9,000 Lbs. or Less: Advice from 516 Dieters Who Did

Friday's Question of the Day: What is your favorite workout DVD and Why (or if you don't have one - your favorite way to exercise and why) and What is your favorite Diet/Health book and why?

My favorite workout DVD is probably the FIRM series, but if I had to narrow it down to one - my favorite is Complete Aerobics and Weight Training (2003) with Emily Welsh. It's a good solid workout, Emily is so fun to watch. I love the moves and everything else. I also liked Calorie Killer (this one was short 39 minutes and the routine was fun - cardio only) with Nancy Tucker. This one is just plain fun and I love the moves.

My favorite DVD when I want a workout (long- 60 minutes), but a no brainer and doesn't require a lot of mental power to learn or do because the moves are basic and non jarring is the 4 mile express Walk Away the Pounds by Leslie Sansone.

Books - My orginal favorite - It's the read that clicked with me the first time I lost weight and really was the most informative on the way our bodies worked with weight loss was Bob Greene (Oprah's Trainer) - His first book with Oprah - the two of them are on the Cover - Get with the Program. I think he had a second one with a similiar title - but its the first one (Unfortunately I can't find it online - would love it for my kindle). His books now are all about products - and I don't like where he went with his books. It ended up being like every other book out there. His original book was all about the science. I used to read it often, and I really need to pull it out and re-read it. I really haven't found anything that has knocked my socks off lately. Maybe because I have learned so much so nothing is new. I usually find books that have pieces that I believe in, but there is always one or two things I don't - so it is never a complete wow this book has it.

Actually - I take that back - I do like the Eat Clean Diet books, but she is a body builder, so sometimes (especially in her original book) her thoughts on certain foods seem a little over the top. But the message - clean, whole - real foods is right on track with what I believe in. Her Eat clean for kids has a lot of good info in it. Her receipes are great - the only one we never liked was the mac and cheese for kids (yuck) - but her chicken nuggets were so good and healthy.

One interesting - eye opening read in the Health dept was Mark Hyman's Ultra Prevention. It's about the medical industry and how medicines are making people sicker. He worked at a Spa for years and he would get his clients off medicines and work at finding the cause of their problems and fixing that, instead of masking them with drugs. It really shows you the importantance of digging to find out why you are having problems and how your diet is usually the problem. Often times getting your hormones, vitamins and minerals in the right balance will fix most problems - along with the proper diet (lifestyle) and exercise.

2 pound loss for me this week! Good luck to everyone!!!!!:goodvibes

My favorite workout DVD is any of the Leslie Sansone - Walk Away the pounds, I have 5 that I rotate and I love them, you get a good, workout and the moves aren't hard to figure out!:thumbsup2

I'm just popping on to say that I lost 5.5#!!!
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Eeyore's Butterfly asked what our first goal was, and I past it! I have now officially lost 25# from my highest! I have been trying loose this amount since last March and I finally did it!:thumbsup2

I am so happy I didn't step on the scale earlier this week, THis was so much better to see the number, I know it kept me more on track to wait for the anticipated weigh in day! YeeeHaw!

I'll pop back in later to answer todays QOTD, I have to head off to work.

Okay I lost 4.4 pounds this week, that is 7 in 2 weeks. I am a little confussed as this is a lot. But I a LOVING IT!! I guess "new fat" is easier to lose than the "old fat" I am now just below were I was before we left for Disneyland.

Monday Question of the Day: What is your favorite workout DVD and Why (or if you don't have one - your favorite way to exercise and why) and What is your favorite Diet/Health book and why?

Leslie Sansone WATP/In home walking. I really like these because they are simple & not "dancy." You can modify them to fit YOUR fitness level, add more arm movements, less arms, "boost" the walking or keep it low.

Leslie Sansone has a couple that are really good. But I am more of take bits and pieces of things and then do my own thing.

Well, I gained 1 pound this week.:sad2: I lost 5.5 last week, so I know I can do better than this! I'm so mad at myself!

I lost 2.8 this week! It far exceeded what I expected to lose, especially since I ate lunch out the past 3 days (Vietnamese, Thai, Vietnamese). I just made sure to stay on track and not let it derail me (get into the well I blew it mode). I counted the calories for these foods and kept the snacking and meals in check the rest of the day.

I'm down another 3 pounds this week. :cool1:

Wednesday's QOTD: What is your motivation to lose the weight?
1. My family...I want to be here to see my kids grow up, and I want to one day be an old, wrinkled lady walking down the beach with my DH. That's not going to happen if I don't make some serious changes. I lost a friend of mine to breast cancer on New Year's Day. She was a single parent, and every time I think about her sweet DD11 growing up without her mommy it makes me physically sick. My friend would have done ANYTHING to still be here, and I cannot excuse myself for doing nothing when my health is completely in my control.
2. My career...I went back to school recently to change careers. After being a SAHM for 10 years I knew I didn't want to go back into the accounting field, so I'm working on my teaching license. I want to be a good example for the kids in my classroom.
3. I want my appearance to reflect who I feel like I am on the inside. When I look in the mirror, I don't recognize the person I see. This isn't who I am, and I deserve much better than this.

QOTD Monday: What is your favorite workout DVD and Why (or if you don't have one - your favorite way to exercise and why) and What is your favorite Diet/Health book and why?
My treadmill is my favorite form of exercise. I also enjoy using the Wii Fit.
I don't have a favorite Diet/Health book. In the past I've purchased these books, only to read them and put them on the shelf. That doesn't do me any good. I have heard great things about You on a Diet by Mehmet Oz. However, I'm taking 18 hours this semester. When would I ever have time to read it? :rotfl:

I lost 0.5# this week, so 4.4# total for the challenge so far. I lost some the week before the challenge started too, so I'm feel like I'm doing pretty good with my overall weight loss for the last 3 weeks even though it was a small amount this week.

My favorite exercise is the Wii fit. I love the way it graphs your weight and BMI and the amount of time you've spent exercising. I also like to walk the dog, but only when it's nice outside! I'm sure he'll have a blast at the doggie hotel next week while were at WDW since he hasn't been getting his walks lately.

I don't have a favorite weight loss book. I've read enough about different diets over the years that it just doesn't interest me anymore. During those rare times when I actually get a chance to read, it's most likely something by James Patterson. (I checked out Lifeguard from the library to take on my trip!)

I may be checking in next week to keep myself accountable. Now that I've broken the 175# barrier, I don't want to go back up! I need to try and find my WW pedometer before we go so I'll be ready for the next challenge!

Robinb, Thanks for the lentil soup recipes! :thanks:

I'm just popping on to say that I lost 5.5#!!!
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Awsome job, Princess Vija!

Good Morning,

I am so bummed because I gained .2 pounds. I have stayed pretty much OP except for one day and I didn't really do that poorly that day. I excercised every day but one also. I'm not sure why I didn't lose. Even my husband was shocked that I basically maintined my weight. Any ideas? :sad2:

I'll be willing to bet if you keep on track, and mix it up like the others say, you'll see a huge loss next week! I'm a recent viewer of BL, and I know that there have been times when there have been "gamesplaying", but it seems that almost always if somebody is not eliminated after having a bad week, they seem to come back the next week with a huge loss. Keep your chin up!

I seemed to have the opposite issue; I floundered big time and still managed to lose a pound (I just say :thanks: ), so I know I must keep on track consistently this week just to maintain that loss and be happy if I just maintain (of course, I'm hoping for more than that)

Have a great week, everyone!

Laurie

I lost 2 pounds this week. Yesterday I got Walk away the pounds from Netflix and I did it last night. It was fun. I did the easy 1 mile walk, now I'm going to go do the brisk 1 mile walk. I'm going to order the 2 mile one next. Thank you all for telling us about this. - Lisa
