I've been to Disney 2x's since becoming a DVC member back in Dec 08 & I always forget about the Welcome Home Wednesdays over at the Boardwalk. Has anyone done this; is it worth it & what do they mean by "light refreshments"? I ask because we have ressies at 1:30 @ Scifi & 6:45 @ Hollywood Brown Derby on a Wed. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, we just got back from SSR and went to Welcome Home Wednesdays for the 1st time. I would only go again if there was nothing better to do. The light refreshments were a small glass of water or lemonade and a small bag of cheese popcorn or Crackerjack. The program started a little late maybe 4:10 and was over by 4:45. It was basically a corny game show that asked trivia questions about DVC. There was a few prizes awarded to the lucky few who were chosen to answer the questions. At the end every one was given a bright red DVC hat. My teenagers have asked not to go to this ever again. I am glad we had a chance to go, but there are so many other ways I would spend my time at WDW.

I gotta laugh, :lmao: cheese popcorn or crackerjacks? I guess I was expecting something more like Mickey shaped cheese & crackers or cookies. Oh well, thanks for the reply at least now I know not to go rushing out of Hollywood Studios between my reservations to get there.

We were there as well today. Had a good time. It was nice to get in out of the hot air, and take a break for a while. Yes, the show is "different", but still a good time. Here's a pic of Miss Dee Vee Cee and the other pic has a pic of the red hats given out on the other MCee

It is pretty pathetic. I dont know anyone that likes it. How do we suggest to DVC that they do something else? Who could I contact? It is probably pretty expensive from to host this event (at least 15 disney people, cleaning, prizes, food...) I have like 50 suggestions to make a better event:

- Just let members mingle with name tags saying where they own. Orderves and a classy party
- A private swimming party for members at a differnt pool every week
- A DVC infomational meeting with updates on: building progress, current point deals, maintenence schedules, ride closures
**** My absolute favorite idea. Every park (MK, Epcot...) should have a DVC lounge with free soda, water, couches TV's, Clean Restrooms. Nice and cool. Games for Kids. A place to relax when things get crazy at the parks.

I am tell you, the lounge idea would increase DVC sales

The park lounge idea is awesome.

I will agree that the show and snacks are not impressive at all and does not measure up with Disney's quality standards.

Hey, you have to remember that Disney is a story teller -- a masterful one in the form of MK, EPCOT, HS and AK. DVC is a part of that process by telling a differnt story at each resort. I have yet to figure out what the story is at BLT --- other than want to be future looking condo hotel. Other DVC resorts have a feeling of family, life, ownership. Don't bet me wrong I love BLT for LOCAITON, LOCAITON, LOCATION but not beyond that.

Welcome Home Wednesdays is nothing more than a sales pitch or reinfocing opportunity to keep the best customers in the happy mode for having spent $16 to $25K (or more) for better accomidaitons. While the State of Florida recognizes all of us as lease hold property interest "owners" Disney NEVER uses that word. You never own anything but the future rights of time to occupy space on a rule based system. That sounds way too legal so don't look for opportunities to be treated as an owner or stock holder.

ENJOY -- the story, the realy bad game show, the $15 you saved on a DVC hat and continue your delusion. I know it sounds harsh but you have to know the facts then forget them and have fun.

I will now go back to my delusion of telling everyone I "own" a timeshare in Disney World leaving them in awe for my superior judment on vacaitons

Whoa everybody!

DW & I also felt that the WHW was a great thing to go to . . . once.

But we did it again last May and were delightfully surprised! Yes, there was still the tiny bags of cheese popcorn popcorn::, ice water & lemonade, but they had as a showcase event a couple of Disney restaurants provide there signature appetizers and it was OUTSTANDING! :cool1:

Portobello's was the winner in our view. What a surprise! We went back to the buffet tables in the entrance lobby at least four times, as the portions were small, but the smiles on the chef's faces said enjoy. They were still putting the treats out as Dee Vee Cee was making her game show awards presentations.

And of course, blue hats with the DVC logo as we exited capped the event.

Will we go again? Sure, why not! :cool2:

I'm with Dizny Dad!!! We had a good time! Now, would I leave a park to go back? Probably not. But in June we did a "no parks" trip and made a special effort to go to Welcome Home Wednesday. It was a nice break, we learned a couple of things, my daughter won a special pin, and we each received a free reusable, cloth, shopping bag when we left. I use those bags for grocery shopping and every time I pull them out I remember what a great trip we had and that's it is not long until I get "welcomed home" again. I am glad we went.

Tigger031266- Those are some great ideas!!! Ever thought of working for DVC?
