Welcome Home Wednesdays -- Stupid Question

I think I know the answer, but I still have to ask.

We won't be using our points for the first time until January. But we used our DVC discount on Annual Passes for our April/May trip. So of course the urge for one more mini trip in between got the best of us and we decided to use our Wyndham points for a September, Mommy-and-Daddy-only trip. (:cool1:)

I was hoping to go to a Welcome Home Wednesday when we stay in January, but we'll have DS (3 yr old) with us then, so September would be better (easier and more likely to actually get there). But can you go if you're not staying on site? It seems like it would only be for those staying on site, but I thought I'd ask in case it isn't.

I'm not really sure exactly what happens there, but I still want to go! :)

:) I have never been, but I think it is just for DVC members wether or not you are staying on property. It is hosted by DeeVee Cee (sp?) and has sort of a game show theme. I think people were given DVC caps there recently. Have a great time on your trips and WELCOME HOME!!

We attended last week, and you just show your DVC card to get in. They had a game show with DVC trivia, gave out some door prizes, and everyone got a DVC cap at the end. There was lemonade and a choice of a bag of popcorn or pretzels. There also were tiny key lime pie tarts from one of the restaurants. It was fun, but it isn't worth a special trip to the Boardwalk unless you really want a cap....DH did want the cap and was delighted that we both got one.

Wear something that makes you stand out and then volunteer with a smile on your face when they ask. You'll have to stand in front of everyone behind the jeopardy-like podiums, but it's fun and the three players end up with some nice parting gifts in addition to the cap. I was lucky enough to be chosen the last time we went and it turned out to be lots of fun.

As others have said, they only ask to see your membership cards. You get a drink and a snack and it's cool inside - a nice break if it's hot & humid outside. Takes about an hour or so.

Go early so you can sit in the middle section -- the (very funny) game host when I went didn't seem to have peripheral vision, pretty much everyone he called on was in a straight line of sight.

They ran out of caps fairly early as we were leaving, so just got a small tote bag. It was kind of fun, but only if you have a few hours to spare (to get there, participate, get back again, etc.). Did not have to be staying on-site when I went (never know when rules change). It was not much of a selling more points thing, which was good.

I'm new to all the DVC perks but where do they have Welcome Home Wednesdays?
It's in the Atlantic Dance building at the end of the Boardwalk, just past JellyRolls

We vacation three times a year at OKW for a week. We always fit in a visit to Welcome Home Wednesday. DeeVeeCee has been the host except for our last visit on May 12, 2010. Her husband filled in for her. I first met him at the DVC Christmas party this past Dec. He was very funny and a lot of fun. We also got hats at the end.

Thanks for all of the replies--and the tips! I'm so glad I asked!

We're definitely planning on going. I talked to DH and he said it sounds like fun. Maybe one of of us will get picked. (I got to be in the hot seat at WWTBA Millionaire once when they had it at HS, so it would be fun for DH to get a chance to win some stuff!)

Thanks again! :goodvibes

We attended for the first time last Wed. I thought my husband was going to kill me for making him attend. It is pretty silly and DVC has a very annoying high pitched laugh that made me cover my ears at times. We didn't win any prizes, but received the free hat at the end. I am glad that we attended one event, but these DVC owners will never attend another one!

I've never been to the Welcome Home Wednesdays but it sounds a lot like what they do on the DCL. Can someone describe the hats? The DVC hats we got on the DCL a few years back were blue with the DVC logo embroidered on the front. TIA
