Welcome Home Wednesday - gone?

I'd guess the replacement is the special parties they've been doing. Of course those aren't ongoing so not all members have an opportunity to attend those unless they happen to line up with a planned trip.
I had a lot more fun at the Typhoon Lagoon event that we went to in August then I ever had at a WHW event, and yes, I did enjoy the WHW, and got to participate one time!
Also, the Typhoon Lagoon event accommodated many people! I looked around and thought about just how large DVC is, since everyone there was a member or guest. I doubt if a whole year of Welcome Home Wednesday's had as many people attending as that one night, and there were others this year.
So, if they wanted to accommodate more members in special events, I think they did.

But the nice thing about a regular event that is held EVERY week is that a lot of people stay a whole week and can plan on a Wednesday event. We managed to hit one WHW the summer we were staying at BWV. These special events like they had at TL may accommodate more people at any one time but it also eliminates those of us who never seem to have the right timing to be there during the event. This summer we missed every event, every opening, every anything and everything.

That's my pet peeve with these events. I have yet to catch one that aligns with our vacations and suspect I won't until my children are grown since we go over their school breaks which coincide with most major holidays!

Depending on who you talk to, these extra events are either put on by DVD marketing and they pay or DVC and we pay through our dues. Membership Magic events are use as a marketing tool and these are paid for OOP by attendees.

Disney/DVC will change the events as they see fit to help increase sales. Welcome Home Wednesdays wasn't doing it for them.

I fixed that for you...

While direct add-on contracts do help DVD meet it's sales targets, my sources tell me that they want to focus on new buyers where the big money is. These events while great for existing members are used more as a quoited benefit during the sales pitch.

Yes, but a weekly events gives everyone something to enjoy. I also enjoyed one of the MK events but I also recognize I completely lucked out in having a stay booked at the time it happened. Many, many members were not so lucky. If they announced them 11 months in advance then great but they can't do that. Any ongoing events are pay as you go.

We did WHW once and that was enough but it was a little DVC recognition year round. I'd do the other events anytime too in comparison but it's all luck of the draw so disappointing if you're not there.

Yes, I understand about not regularly scheduled. We also hit a Animal Kingdom night in September. Still, my point is more members are at these random events, making more folks happy.

We probably went to about 5 WHWs, and the 2 things we hit this year seem more exciting!

Many people hated Dee Vee Cee!

I think there was something special at MK to celebrate the opening of SSR. We could not do that, I remember feeling sad. There was something at Pleasure Island, maybe in conjunction with the DVC Member Cruise in 2005 that we were at.

It may be hit or miss, but no one makes everyone happy.

We are doing two trips this yr, each 12 days long and we are missing every special event. In fact since the ending of Welcome home Wednesday, we have missed every event they had. I don't remember dates but there were a few last yr too.

What did they do at WHWs? I never got to attend one.
Usually hosted by two cast members. They did a mild comedy routine. Then there were contests with audience members. adults and children. Participants received a special pin. Then there would be a mild promotion of the latest DVC resort. Concluding with raffles. Upon exiting, you receive a DVC baseball hat.
Oh, and there were refreshments---you'd get a coupon good for, for example, choice of apple, banana, Cracker Jack, pretzels. There were also drinks--water, lemonade, etc.
Whole thing would take if memory serves, under an hour. I enjoyed it. A lot of people reviled it.
