Weird throwaway clothes question

I keep seeing people talk about throwing away top layers as they warm up. I can't decide between wearing long vs short sleeves, so maybe a compromise would be to wear the short sleeves, and wear a toss away over it.
On the final race instructions thing it says that your bib must be showing at all times. I'd want to safety pin my bid to my short sleeve shirt. How can I wear a toss away if my bib won't show with it on?
Just wondering what others do about there bibs.

I plan to wear a triathlon type number-belt. It isn't recommended for the newish B(ib)-chip, but plenty of people still wear them without damaging the strips on the back of their race number. You can get these number belts at most running stores, or triathlon specific (bike) stores.

You are likely to be fine in a sleeveless tech top just before the gun goes off. You will be fine pinning your number to this shirt. You will just need to flash your bib to anyone who asks. This will be required as you enter the Bag Claim/Pre-Corral assembly area, and when you actually enter your corral. So throw away layers should allow quick display of your number.

I've actually transferred by bib from my long sleeve to my tank top while in the middle of the race once!

It depends on the weather for me. If I know it'll be a cold start, I pin the bib on the long sleeve cuz I anticipate wearing it for quite a while. If it's a bit warmer to start, I'll pin the bib on my tank underneath and keep the long sleeve over the top. The bib numbers don't have to be showing at all times! They just ask to see them in "runner only" areas, such as the corralls or in the pre-race areas where only runners are allowed. So you can cover it up with your long sleeve and show the bib to the bib police upon entering the corralls.

Don't worry about it. As long as you can lift up your outer layers to show your bib if/when requested, you'll be just fine.

Thanks everyone. Maybe I'll bring my tri belt just in case, but would prefer to pin it so I have one less belt around me.

Picking the outfit has been just as stressful as the training.:lmao:

Yes, it is always a worry for me too.

(I also use the number belt. Love it. I've used it for the bib tags too and it seems to work just fine. At least up to now.)

Good luck, good fun! See you real soon!

since I wear running skirts when I run I've pinned my bibs to my skirt before when I know I'll be shedding top layers.

I just ran the half and wore a short sleeve shirt, then a long sleeve shirt, and a sweatshirt. I pinned my bib to my short sleeve shirt and just pulled up my two other layers when I crossed the starting mat to make sure it registered. Then as I started pulling off the layers during the race, I didn't have to worry about transferring the bib and juggling pins while I was running.

Keep a close eye on the weather forecast as we get closer to the race.

For the Princess last year, I actually brought a cheap robe to wear if it was cold. I didn't need it and only wore my tank top and running skirt.

For a lot of races, I pin my number to my shorts/capris.

Remember that you will get hotter during the race - at least 10 degrees if you run a lot of it.

I would pin the number to my short/skirt or your running shirt.

If it's going to be cold, bring a throw away zip up sweatshirt, that way it's easier to unzip and show your number to get into your corral. Then it's easy to unzip and throw on the side of the road for them to pick up and give to charity.

You do want the number to be visible because of the professional photographer shots and the video that they take of you crossing the finish line.

Between now and spring would be a great time to hit the clearance racks and find some cheap pants/sweats to toss for next years race!! :thumbsup2

OR if you happen to have a snowman turtleneck that your MIL gave you years ago and you needed an excuse to get rid of.... :rotfl::rotfl:

(sorry, inside joke ;))

Oh, come on now. :lmao: Would you ever wear a snowman turtle neck? Anywhere? Besides the kids' school Christmas program?? Now if only the lucky soul who gets that turtle neck can match it with the clashing blue pyjama pants..... I scream fashion. ;)

I wore a long sleeve under armor dryfit shirt under my running jersey. My bib of course was on the jersey so I just pulled both off and tossed the long sleeve and put the jersey back on. I did this without slowing down and found I had to be very aware of other runners in front of me. It's like driving a car :) you look down and everyone taps their breaks...

a friend of mine cuts her throw away clothes down the middle (ok the pants she cuts up the outside) and adds bits of velcro at strategic spots so they stay on and look normal pre-removal. she can easily show her bib on her shirt and toss both top and bottom away easily.

I've been happy with regular sweatshirt and a giant size trash bag recently. (the bag reaches mid calf so keep almost all of me warm)
