My sis in law got my a disney gift card from our local disney store. Can I use this to buy Disney dollars, as I don't think I can use this card on food item in the DL park?

You can use the gift cards almost anywhere in the parks. There are just a few food carts that can't take them. I'm not sure if you can buy disney dollars with a gift card. It seems like you should be able to but you never know what weird little rules they might have. Did you look at the fine print on the back of the card?

I'm pretty sure you can't use GC to purchase Disney Dollars. BUT you CAN use them for food. We did this and "pre-paid" for all our meals before we went on our trip. The only ones you can't use for food is the birthday fun cards...they are totally different things.

You can use the GC for food, merchandise, even towards hotel cost. You're safe with the GC. Like others said there are a handfull of the street cart type food things that don't have a debit/credit machine, but they must be very few as I have been able to use mine almost everywhere.

You can use gc's for food, we've done it before. Some of the ODV carts can only take cash, but not many anymore. Only the truly portable ones. I don't know that you can even find DD anywhere, I've been told they are being phased out.

Thanks for the answers. I was mainly thinking of the ODV carts, as that's where we usually buy food. We only go for 1-day trips here and there, and bring our own food as well. It will be fine I am sure.

The Disney Gift Card cannot be redeemed for cash. However, if you do not use your card at all, it can be returned to the original form of payment providing you have the original proof of purchase receipt. (Once you've used it, this can't be done.)

With the exception of Popcorn & Ice Cream most of the carts will accept the card. It is only the "mobile" carts that do not accept them. If it is a permanent location then you will be fine.

Albort, the helpful CM, let us know last week that as of about a month ago, almost every cart, even the mobile ones, takes cards.
