Okay, really, unless you have an autoimmune disease, this is just taking things too far.
Do you wash your hands every time you touch your desk at work? How clean is your steering wheel after someone else drives or after you've been shopping? Do you wipe that down every time? What about the utensils in a restaurant that a server touched, possibly just after itching her nose or arm? Do you use a stir stick from Starbucks that's from an open container? Do your fingers accidentally touch two other stir sticks that you don't take? How about those sugar packets and creamers that might have fallen on the floor when they were being refilled?
Life happens. There are germs everywhere! We do our best, but unless you are very sickly, your body will fight things off. If touching the serving utensils is gross, how about the glasses, that might have been touched by someone other than you? And really, do you know what goes on behind the kitchen walls where the food is being prepped? You don't.
I've seen a baker at a bakery near my place put his product on a pan, check his phone, then take freshly baked buns off another pan for sale. If it happens there, it happens on a ship or in restaurants across the country. You can't keep every germ away from you unless you never eat out or go anywhere.
I totally get using the wipes and washing your hands and I hope that all the kitchen workers do the same. But I'm not going to be paranoid about every germ around. Now if I see someone sneeze on the food or drop something and put it back, I will say something. I've told kids not to pick up food off the floor or to get a new plate when they didn't know any better. But I can't worry about every single thing. Otherwise, just stay away from buffets.
