My mom went over and asked. The tree is called a sausage tree. Elephants like to eat the tubers. The CM my mom spoke to said you never want to camp under one of these trees.
When we were at Rafiki's Planet Watch in 2007 they had one there you could pick up and it was heavy! The CM said that they go out nightly at certain points in the year to harvest them because if one fell on a guest it could be disastrous.
Incidentally they had the world's largest flower in there at the time because a hurricane was forecast to swipe the area but they were terrified it was going to bloom in there because it smelled like rotting flesh when open! I'll have to find my picture......
Found them!
In this one you can see how tall it is....see the green "stick" going up along the "Eco" sign? And you can see the "sausage pod" on top of the counter on the left hand side.

And here's a close up of the top...

The CM said that he could smell it all the way at the entrance of the park the last time it bloomed...thankfully the bloom only lasts 24 hours
