My wife of 25 years (well, our real anniversary is in August - way too hot for us to be in FL) just got back from a 10-day trip to Walt Disney World. We had a lot of fun "firsts", despite this being our 40th-plus trip there.

We did the private boat to watch the fireworks and Electrical Water Pageant, had a special visit from Mickey and Minnie to leave roses and other gifts in our room at the Bay Lake Towers, and played the Sorcerer's card game all over the Magic kingdom.

A couple of things that were really prominent on this trip - the (in general) spotty quality of counter service food at places we used to depend on. We have our usual "go-to" food places, including one that we used to consider a hidden gem - the food court at Pop Century. In particular, I go out of my way to make it over there on Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays to have the Hot Turkey Dinner from Mom's Night Out".

So on Tuesday, May 8th we went over expecting to get my usual fix. I was disappointed that they no longer have Hot Turkey dinners! My wife ordered her usual Parmesan Crusted Chicken, which was OK but not as good as in past trips. After some indecision, I went over to the Grill Shop to get an Angus Cheeseburger. How could they screw THAT up, I thought. Well, they FOUND a way!! The completed sandwich was sitting in a heat lamp when I got there, and they handed it to me. The texture looked a little "off" but I have never had a bad burger at Walt Disney World, so I took it. It turned out to have no taste and a really funny texture, almost like the raw patty had been frozen, thawed, and refrozen before cooking. For the first time, I actually had to bring back food at a Disney restaurant. Since my patty had been replaced by an identical one sitting under the heat lamp, I saw that simply swapping one bad sandwich for another as a waste of time. So I ordered a cup of chili. BAD IDEA! It was also terrible - mostly chili seeds and with a thick consistency like peanut butter.

Anyway, for the rest of the trip, I watched the counter service food carefully. The Pork BBQ sandwich was uniformly delicious, and I ordered it in 3 of the 4 parks over the course of the trip. The pictures of Angus burgers all looked the same as the one served at Pop Century, so I stayed away from them. I wonder if they changed to a new hamburger patty supplier property-wide?

Finally, the Old Port Royale food court at Caribbean Beach Resort was a "save" for Hot Turkey Night. The Bridgetown Broiler crew, led by Tom, were young, happy to see us, full of fun and served a GREAT hot turkey dinner. Tom even took the time to listen to my pop Century failure, and we had a great time with his team. We left nice comment cards for them, which Tom signed and passed us to give to them face-to-face. They were so happy! What a great Team you have, Tom!
