It's not normal for a man to wear a skirt...

Hey now!

IMHO men wearing hats indoors are rude, lacking manner and class, and are displaying a total lack of proper upbringing; but then I'm an old guy living in the past:cool2:

Then I guess I am old fashioned as well. Proud of it.;) I am not beyond to learning new things but was brought up in a different generation which I am happy that I did ;) But each to their own. But wearing a hat is wrong unless for religion reasons.

i don't see what the big deal is with men wearing their baseball caps inside a restaurant - doesn't bother me, not my business, why are others so concerned?

First of all the OP asked............

Well if you were dining in the Capital Grille Restaurant or Morton's Steakhouse you would have to follow their dress code which would be NO HATS while dining.

Like I posted earlier, OP's DF would have to limit himself to McD's, Taco Bell and other fast food establishments.

DH & I love Morton's, Capitol Grille, Ruth Chris and frequent lovely restaurants such as these and I would not want someone sitting at the table next to me with a ball cap on.

Many restaurants have dress codes and if you do not want to follow their codes just do not go there...easy & easy!!!!

I agree, too. Unless it's a fancy pants restaurant I don't see it as a huge issue. Maybe it's a generation issue. I'm 27 and it doesn't bother me either way, especially in Disney where everything is so casual. I wore my Minnie ears at Le Cellier and the only time I took them off was either for a ride or the Muppets 3D show so people could see.

I guess I don't see it as rude. :confused3 I think it's just a comfort thing for a lot of people. Unless it's a dressy restaurant that requires a jacket and tie, I don't see why anyone would be offended. I don't look at other patrons while I'm eating.

Again, maybe it's just an "old fashioned" thing which I totally respect and admire. Just for me, it doesn't bother me. :goodvibes

That's the way my DF is, he refuses to take it off, or let anyone other then me, see him without his hat on. There are local restaurants he refuses to go to, since they won't allow him to wear his hat.

I agree with a previous poster. That's kind of childish behavior for a grown man.

I think part of it may be generational.I was taught no hats in school, church, in the house, at the dinner table or in restaurants. Does it bother me at disney? not so much.Unless I am paying to eat at V&A. There is a proper etiquette, and it does say no hats.In many other cultures, failure to remove a hat would be insulting and rude( unless for religious purposes)......However , The fact is whatever the policy of the restaurant ( dress code) is , you need to abide by it if you want to eat there.

Does anyone think it's sexist that hats are allowed for women, but not for men? My DF "needs" to wear a hat, and will not go to local restaurants that don't allow him to wear one.

I do think it is sexist that women can wear a hat and men can not. But that is how it is. If that is the excuse he is using for not taking you somewhere then go with out him. It might be that he just does not want to go anywhere and found that as excuse.

Oh no, we'll go out. It's just that I mentioned this one restaurant to him, when we were trying to decide where to eat, and he said we couldn't go there, because he can't wear his hat there.

What if you really wanted to go there? He would refuse to take you somewhere special because of a silly hat?

Maybe there are bigger issues at play here.

Are we talking about "his lucky hat" or just hats in general?

Miss Manners says that ladies are allowed to wear hats in restaurants, but if they are wearing a unisex hat such as a baseball cap, they need to remove it too.

And my spouse forgot his was on his head when we ate at the Flying Fish and they did ask him to remove it. :) Which he did, as he just hadn't quite gotten around to it yet.

Okay, I have a question that is kind of off topic, but what religion would you need to wear a baseball cap for? I can see a yarmalke (ok, I probably butchered the spelling), or even the Amish hats...although I don't think I've ever seen anyone in Amish dress at WDW...would the baseball cap thing be from the Church of Tommy Lasorda or what??
I'm confused. :confused3

Check out the locations are from with their post. For the most part, not all though, the people for taking the hat off are from the south, those for keeping it on are from north.:lmao:

The OP didn't specify baseball hat in her first post -- merely a "hat".

I am from the north and I was always taught "men - no hats inside".

Nope, we're in the North and it is considered rude here. Most men including young men take them off in MickeyDs etc.. You occasionally see some twit with one on but thankfully not often.

Figaro, that's what I said....I think.:goodvibes

disneyfav4ever, the only restaurants at WDW that prohibit hats are the signature ones. But few men that I've seen wear them in other table service restaurants. They are more common in counterservice restaurants and of course some of those do have outdoor seating anyway. I can understand it there to some extent. I mean you have a tray to carry, etc..

But one more reason for me to avoid CS.;)

There's a whole carpload of restaurants between Mortons and McDs. And most don't care as much about a hat as they do a buck. I generally take mine off when I eat, but sometimes there's not a convenient place to set it so I don't. And I wore my hat at Ruth's Chris and not a word was said.

I'm from the south and good ole boys are likely to leave their hats on. When Bama played at the Superdome the first time, Bear left his hat on. When asked how a southerner could wear his hat inside, he said he NEVER wore his hat in somebody's momma's house, but any other time was fine. BTW, I always take my hat off at PTC.
