Weird and Ninja Shout Out to You! (updated on 7/14)

Art of Animation Tour: Cars

Instead of waiting around any longer for our bags and our drinks delivery, we decided to walk over to Art of Animation. Howard had actually taken pictures of the resort during our Christmas trip in 2012, but I had gotten a pretty nasty cold halfway into the trip. That meant I was stuck in the room because I was feeling so miserable! Never again will I ever want to go during Christmas especially if it means flying the night of the last day of school. My body just never had time to rest from the hectic first half of the school year. Anyway, I was definitely looking forward to seeing everything myself, but at the same time, I was a little nervous because I don't necessarily enjoy thing that are larger than life!

VIDEO: Disoriented at Pop
Clearly, I have no sense of direction as we walked out of our room, and I headed in the opposite direction, haha. I was also not used to holding the camera out and talking to it!

Once we started walking, I had to fix my sock and shoe because I had a little pebble in it. Howard had to document this, and I was cracking up because I'm standing there technically in Disney World removing my sock, and my husband has to snap pics!

I'm surprised I didn't topple over because I really don't have the best balance! When I'm just standing, I can just fall over at times. I'll blame it on my health conditions!

Sometimes Howard and I crack up when we see helicopters. When we were dating years ago, I had to go to the Museum of Jewish Heritage and write a paper for my "Intro to Judaism" class (I minored in Theology). He was a dear and was willing to go with me on a Sunday after church since we were in the city already. After we toured the museum and took a ton of notes, we spent some time outside even though it was rather chilly. It was around the time I started getting sick and not knowing what it was, so I was finally just enjoying some time without even thinking about it. I actually remember saying to him after a while, "I forgot I was sick!" We sat on these benches and just looked out at the water when a helicopter started flying above us, so we started joking that it was my dad in the helicopter watching us because we were kind of on a "date." Ever since then, helicopters are automatically a sign that either my dad is watching us or he has hired someone to follow us!

VIDEO: Walking from Pop to AoA

I had seen the Finding Nemo section when we had eaten at the AoA food court, so I was somewhat familiar with the area. Isn't it amazing that the Disney imagineers and animators can design these characters so that they look as if they have personalities? It would be so easy just making all of these minor fish characters in a cookie cutter fashion, but all the faces are different.

When I saw this striped purple fish, I immediately said, "PASTA FACE!" During one of our first trips together, Howard saw the Mickey pasta and pointed it out to me. I told him to hold it up so I could take a picture, and he made the funniest-looking smile without realizing it! Since then, we try to find the bag of pasta so he can take the "pasta face" picture on each trip. I just thought it was funny to see that the fish was making the "pasta face" too! And yes, there was one for this trip!

After a little bit of more walking, we came to the Cars section. This was definitely a sign made for me, haha. It totally describes just a portion of my life with less than stellar health!

Although Cars is definitely a movie that Howard enjoys, I've only watched it once from start to finish. I just didn't enjoy it as much as he did, but despite that, I have to say that seeing all the characters was really cool! I'm not the ultimate Disney fan in that I don't know the movies too well. My Disney love is more about the parks whereas Howard didn't get a chance to go to the parks every year as a kid the way I did, so he loves the movies. That means I had to actually had to ask Howard what the names of the characters were because I kept mixing them up. I'm not even going to bother captioning them here because I'm sure I'll get them wrong! Plus, it's more about the fact that Howard's pictures have greatly improved since our Disneymoon trip!

For the most part, when there are similar photos, I do post his first before posting mine. During our earlier trips, I kept thinking that there was no need for me to take pictures because I'd end up using his anyway. I would point things out to him to photograph, but sometimes they weren't the way that I had imagined it. So it took a trip or two to learn that it's okay if we take pictures of the same thing! Besides, it's not like we're using film and having to pay to develop them at the store! Haha, I do remember those days and when I finally bought my own camera and film when I was in high school. I can't even fathom how many rolls of film we'd have to purchase and bring for a Disney trip! Anyway, I tried to focus on close-ups and details since my camera could do more macro things if I wanted to, but I'm sure you can see that the quality of the photo is different.

How adorable that there are descriptions on the back of the postcards?!

We also learned over the trips we've enjoyed together that it's okay if we wander off on our own as long as we're in the same area. I know that sometimes he may have to wait a bit to set up the shot he wants. I don't mind waiting for him, but I feel that if I stand next to him, it might rush him. So we are fine going around and enjoying the details. That, of course, means that we take pictures of each other like this.

Oh, let me just say that Howard and I are both aware that his hair is rather funky on this first day! Haha, I think it was the wind since it was a January trip! It's a good thing that he's already got himself a girl, hehe. We say things like that to each other all the time. If I feel as if I'm looking extra frumpy when we go out, I go, "It's a good thing I'm already married because there'd be no way I'd attract anyone looking like this!"

Looking at this picture, I can't remember if I knew that I was propping my arm up or not, haha. Yes, I am a huge fan of how it makes my arm look thinner, but I was also wearing a long-sleeved waffle so does it even make a difference? Speaking of, I really need to get in the habit of actually going to the gym and working out. I really don't have an excuse since we have a gym in the basement of our apartment building! I just don't know if someone will be down there at the same time, and that would make me feel slightly uncomfortable since it's so quiet. But yeah, I would like to not have to prop my arm up when my cousin gets married in October!

(continued from previous post)

Haha, this is what I meant about taking pictures of details. It's always interesting seeing the different perspectives, don't you think?

As you saw above, there were many license plates with letter and number combinations that probably have hidden meaning for the Imagineers. This one on Mater was definitely a great one to capture as the A113 is seen in other Pixar movies. It's the animation classroom number at the California Institute of the Arts in the Character Animation Program. Take a look here to see how it's hidden in other movies.

VIDEO: Cardboard Lightning McQueen

I'm sure all adults see this and think, "I wish gas only cost $0.30 per gallon!"

Howard's parents have a Volkswagen, and Howard used it often to pick me up on our dates. That's how I learned that VWs are called V-Dubs. I think I enjoyed looking at all the details on Fillmore the most because of the bumper stickers. And no, I didn't know his name from memory. I had to look it up even though we have the Vinylmation, so I knew who it was for some time. Guess bits of info like that just leak out as I get older.

VIDEO: Squishy Ground
(sorry about the wind, but I do attempt to fix his hair in this one!)

Even though these aren't real character meet and greets, I'm sure it must be amazing for a little kid who loves Cars to see all these guys and take pictures with them.

(continued from previous post)

TREAD STAR?! We had just recently watched The Bourne Identity, so everything was all about Treadstone, which was the program that trained people to be assassins. It came up again in the trip.

VIDEO: Random Stories

The last picture before we moved on to another section is, I think, the area where the guy was clipping his nails out the window. I explained it in the video right above, but it's kind of a little gross to me! Is it really that difficult to just throw your nails in the trash can? I mean, we're from NYC, so there have been gross people who think it's okay to clip their nails in public like on the ferry or subway, but still. Is it just me? It just seems kind of indecent!

Stay tuned for the rest of our AoA tour! Don't worry, haha, they're much shorter.

Let me start off by saying that my wife takes GREAT pictures because she sees things in ways that I simply don't! Plus, her pictures don't need the editing that I go through to get the crop right, the colors, sharpness, detail, etc. I may have the better equipment and the Lightroom and all of that, but she does all of it with a point and shoot! Simply put, my wife is the best.

As for the cars, the purple one is Ramone and he's married to Flo, the flouride-colored car. I knew I could contribute to this TR a bit more! ;)

I'm so sorry I didn't hold my hand out for you when you had to take off your shoe! Looking at it now, I really should've put my camera down and helped you out. Let's go back and see if it happens again :D

I forgot to say, if we had rolls of 24-film, I would've needed 100 rolls of all acceptable shots!

Aw, I love your AoA photos - by BOTH of you! Now I need to check out this resort when we go next year, just so I can get some photo ops too!

Hehe, thanks you. We're just practicing so that we'll have a ton of pictures of Luke and Leia when they come.

Aw, I love your AoA photos - by BOTH of you! Now I need to check out this resort when we go next year, just so I can get some photo ops too!

Thank you! In the beginning, I used to get discouraged because if we were taking the same picture from the same angle, of course his would be better. So now I just look for different positions and angles!

And visiting AoA is definitely a fun thing to do especially if it means stopping at Landscape of Flavors for a meal too!

Art of Animation Tour: Lion King

The next section we were going to explore was for The Lion King. I very clearly remember going to watch this movie in the theater. I think it was this movie and Aladdin that were my favorites when I was a kid. I especially love the movie now because my aunt actually brought me to watch it on Broadway! It completely wow-ed me as did Beauty & the Beast, but I was especially attached to Lion King because the storyline wasn't focused on mushy-gushy love. Haha, I'm the kind of person who absolutely detests romantic comedies. They bore me so much, so when a movie is focused too much on love, I start get snarky. Also, when I was in high school and playing in the orchestra for Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, the kid who was playing the role of Joseph was actually the understudy for young Simba on Broadway!

Okay, I'm pretty sure the paragraph I just wrote is a compilation of random thoughts because I have a YouTube video on as I'm attempting to write this update! I'm taking a break from cleaning and enjoying a cup of tea, so please don't mind if this update doesn't flow very well.

Okay, moving on to this fella! I posted this photo on Twitter and Instagram because I figured it wasn't too "HEY, we're in DISNEY WORLD AGAIN!" Howard and I tend to post Disney photos throughout the year even when we're not there, so a lot of times people wonder if we're actually on vacation at the time! As I mentioned earlier, I wasn't quite comfortable with letting everyone know we were there ... again. But then I got over it and started posting, haha.

Twitter: I'd quote a well-known Rafiki phrase except all I can think of is his laughter.

Howard got up close and personal with Rafiki and snapped this photo.

I think the first time I watched this movie, I didn't really think anything of young Simba. Then as I watched it again when I was older, I just kept thinking, "Ugh, so disobedient!" He caused so much trouble!

When I first saw pictures of this part of the resort, I thought that this was much lower and thought that people would have to duck underneath, haha.

Clearly, there is plenty of space for people to walk underneath! Of course, I am a pretty short girl, so I'm sure someone taller would be able to jump and reach it!

Despite the fact that this movie was one of my favorites, I kept mixing up the names of the hyenas! Howard had to keep correcting me. I snapped a picture of Ed. Am I right? Yeah, that's Ed.

"I'm surrounded by idiots."

Since it was still the beginning of the trip, I was really keeping it in mind that I should try to take pictures in different positions. I'm sure a million people have taken pictures this way before, so I'm not being original at all, but for me, I just want to be able to see things with different eyes so that when the twins Luke and Leia come around, I can capture creative photos!

Looking at Zazu makes me want to do my nails, haha. The blues on him are so nice! I don't actually do any designs on my nails, but I do have blue polishes that are similar in color. I think the 3 blues on his wing would make a cute design with an orange accent nail. It'd be like, Disneybounding for your nails!

Okay, one more section to go!

I fall over constantly (or at least it feels like it)!! And I have no good excuse- I'm just klutzy.

That little path in the video when you are going across the bridge to AoA. I have a story about that! I got up early to run on our last trip and ran around the lake (crazy I know, but the view was much nicer than my usual runs). There were a few other runners out, but there was an older gentleman in the section doing old fashioned calisthenics! It was so random!

I love that Disney made the effort to write on the back of the Postcards! It's all in the details!

Oh my heavens! That cardboard Lightning McQueen is terrible!! Poor kids!

You will find yourself remembering the names of things once you have some of your own kiddos. They will ask over and over until you will just learn them so you don't have to keep looking them up. That's how I know all of the names of the bugs from Bug's Life!

I always say the same thing about the squishy ground. Why can't it ALL be like that.

The Lion King on Broadway- No words. Just AMAZING.

Your pictures of AOA are fantastic, and so detailed :)

I didn't know the story of the classroom number being featured in the Pixar films so thank you for sharing that.

And wow I'm sure most little kids would have been really disappointed about the cardboard Mcqueen. I wonder why it was like that?

Newbie to the DISboards and joining in to follow your adventure! I'm really enjoying your love stories with you husband, as well as all the pictures! :)

Okay, I don't feel so bad for having such bad balance then! Klutzes unite! I'm constantly hitting things in my apartment. I mean, when I was walking into things after we got married, it was understandable because it was like not knowing the layout. However, it's been over two years ... haha. My legs are usually bruised, and I never know why because I can't keep track of when I walk into a table.

Wow, such dedication to go running! But you're right in that it is such a great view, and if there's ever a place to run, it'd be Disney! I like that the little sitting area was being used, haha. I can imagine going there every morning if I actually lived there and didn't have a park to hit!

I think the attention to detail is amazing. When I found out that Gutenberg is holding a replica of the actual Gutenberg Bible, I was floored. I mean, can we actually see the words on it when we're on Spaceship Earth? But it was important for it to be as realistic as possible. The fact that they wrote descriptions on the backs of the postcards seems like a "Of course we'd do that; we're Disney!"

Yeah, for a kid who loves Cars, the main star was gone! They should've been like, "Lightning is doing M&Gs at DHS!"

Haha, I'm sure I will be better at remembering the names of characters when I have kids. I knew a lot of the shows on Nick Jr. and PBS when my younger brother was a baby! Even nowadays I'll start singing, "Noodle, use your noodle, noodle, do the noodle dance" from PB&J Otter, and NO ONE knows what I'm singing! Haha, they just think I made it up myself, and I have to be like, "It's the noodle dance that you do when you have to think of a solution!" That constant repetition that the kids like really gets it stuck in our heads!

We weren't even on our feet for too long yet, and I already appreciated that squishy ground! I also think it's great for all the kids who run ... and for us klutzes who might randomly fall, haha.

RIGHT?! I was wondering what they would do for the stampede scene, and I thought it was so clever how they did it. I do love the Beauty and the Beast transformation though! Other than that though, Lion King rocks!

Thank you! We wouldn't have been able to take that much time to examine and take pictures if we didn't have that first day with nothing to do. We have no expiration tickets, so we have to use it from open to close to feel we are getting our money's worth.

You're welcome! I love how they incorporate all these Easter eggs in the movies. Howard and I also love searching for the Pizza Planet truck in all the movies before looking online for any hidden secrets. I also remember how I was so excited to see Pinocchio in the Snuggly Duckling on my own!

We're guessing that they must have been doing some work on Lightning, but it's kind of crazy how they can do work so quickly at night in the parks, but Lightning had to be covered. We didn't go back there, so I don't know if it was there for very long.

Awesome photos. :thumbsup2 I would love to make it out to AoA one day.

Thanks for the compliment! Haha, when Howard got home from work, I was like, "Franklin said the pictures were good!" I'd love to see how you would view/photograph AoA too!

Newbie to the DISboards and joining in to follow your adventure! I'm really enjoying your love stories with you husband, as well as all the pictures! :)

Oh wow! Thanks so much for joining! And welcome to the DISboards community :) It sounds odd for me to say it, but I've made some good friends via DIS and even met two of them in the parks!

Art of Animation Tour: The Little Mermaid

The last section to explore was The Little Mermaid! I know we didn't technically explore Finding Nemo or take many pictures there, but that was the one place we enjoyed on a previous trip since we ate at Landscape of Flavors and also took walks through the resort from their bus stop to get back to Pop.

Anyway, I was most afraid of this section because I knew the characters were more resort-sized! It didn't even matter to me if it was a huge Ariel or a huge Ursula; both of them would be really frightening at night if we stayed at the resort! I know; I'm such a scaredy-cat. I don't think I'd be willing to explore the area if I didn't have Howard by my side.

Once I got in the area and saw everything with a quick glance, I was fine. I just don't like the anticipation and the surprise of it.

I'm pretty sure this is Howard's photo, and it kind of looks funny to see King Triton's eye and raised eyebrow!

Despite its size, I actually think this one is less frightening than the King Triton that's on the ride! Is it just me or does the ride one look kind of scary with its hair and HUGE hands?!

When I was a kid, we had a VHS copy of The Little Mermaid. It was in the tape player when someone accidentally pressed record on it, so it was missing a portion of the movie. My mom has said since then (haha, yes, for years and years and years) that she never had a chance to watch the movie because someone ruined it, but she's not someone who sits and watches movies anyway except for While You Were Sleeping (her favorite) and any Hallmark movie that piques her interest. I've been trying to get her to watch Tangled or Wreck-It Ralph, but I guess as a mom, it's hard for her to set time aside to watch a movie unless she's doing something else at the same time. Even so, if anyone mentions Little Mermaid, she will mention that she still hasn't seen it! Haha.

Twitter: Ariel's hair is just so mesmerizing. My hair doesn't do that in salt water!

I admit I don't know the movie too well anymore, but a year or two ago, I spotted a tank top with Ariel on it that had "NBD" on it. I think it was at Target, and since then, we have actually seen people (including DISers) wearing it! We quote that all the time now even though we're really not in the generation of people who use "NBD." We're in the JK, BRB, BTW generation when people first starting using AIM, haha.

I hadn't noticed this guy's mustache until Howard pointed it out to me!

You gotta love how Disney knows how to hide speakers! They put them up in the crow's nest, which I'm sure is great for acoustics too, but it's interesting that you don't notice it unless you look up at it.

Sometimes I feel silly taking such "serious" pictures with my iPhone, but sometimes those pictures turn out better than the ones on my point and shoot! It works a lot better on movement than my regular camera. Haha, not that this guy was moving, but I did want to post it online.

Twitter: This guy and all the others remind me of the YOLO crew! @leasha_burns @Samma507 @Brittany5643

I like how you can see the reflection in Ursula's big belly fully of jelly.

It was either the actual NY state test for English Language Arts or in the big fat Common Core book that I was using to help prepare my kids, but there was an article about flotsam and jetsam. They had changed most of the reading passages to be boring non-fiction passages, and there are way too many about environmental issues. Even reading the passages to teach was difficult for me because they were just so boring. However, I did get excited to see flotsam and jetsam and to learn that they're actually marine debris and not just random names of Disney characters!

If I were a kid, I might refuse to stay in a room near Ursula, haha. Okay, let me be honest. I think I'd still have an issue now just because of the times we return late at night.

I did feel like posting these two pictures of Sebastian because they're almost identical! The first is Howard's, and the second one is mine (hehe, unedited). Obviously his is better because the color just pops. Plus, you can see more of his eyes. Even so, I thought it was funny how we both ended up with similar pictures!

I was trying to jump up and down to see if I could spot the bottom of Sebastian's feet. I was curious to know if they finish all of his legs or if it just came out of the base. Of course, Disney wouldn't get lazy with it! I couldn't see it, so Howard held his camera up to take this picture for me.

(continued in next post)

(continued from previous post)

And lastly, we moved on to the statue of Prince Eric.

I was checking to see if Eric had any bogeys. Are we the only ones who say bogeys after seeing Harry Potter get troll bogeys all over his wand?

As we were leaving the area, I wanted to get a picture with what I see as a teapot. Of course, the wind was kicking up, and I couldn't get it to behave! There are actually a ton of photos of this, haha. I wanted Howard to take it on my phone so I could post it on Twitter/Instagram because my mom and I used to have tea together almost every day, but now that I've moved out, it's only on rare occasions that it happens.

Twitter: Mom, want to have tea with me?

I hadn't anticipated having so much fun exploring AoA, and it really was the perfect time to do so. It's one of those things that we'd have in our tentative plans, but when you can spend time in the parks or at Downtown Disney, it's kind of hard to fit in resort exploration. I'm glad it was just a brief walk away too. However, as fun as it was, I was really dying for a drink! Time to head back to the room!

Catching up...all the Art of Animation photos are fabulous! :thumbsup2 We haven't seen the Lion King or Little Mermaid parts of the resort yet, so it's so fun to get a preview. Resort exploration is my fav. :goodvibes

We love to do resort exploring too! I haven't made it over to Pop and AOA yet but love all the pictures from you both. Looks like there are a ton of photo ops which is what Disney does best. My favorite section is probably the Lion King section. I loved that movie in college and had always wanted to see the Broadway show. I finally got to see it when it came to DC during a tour and it brought me to tears  (But they were happy tears!)

I'm sorry they didn't honor the room request that I put in for you. I really wish you could pick your own room like you can pick your own seats on flights now!

I love all your videos! Do you guys edit them all together when you get back or do you just keep them individual?

Sometimes a Disney resort wander is a perfect way to spend the day. :goodvibes

Both yours & Howard's photos are great!

Klutzes Unite! Seriously. I have lived in my house for nearly 5 years, I still walk into door jams!

I have been trying to be good about sticking to some kind of a work out regimine. It was actually easier than I thought at Disney because it was so cool to see the resort at such an early sleepy hour!

The Little Mermaid Section in particular is a bit much. Those icons are HUGE. They are definitely intimidating.

We totally say bogeys!! I think my favorite icon that they build was the statue of Prince Eric. Something completely out of the movie that we had never seen before! Love it!

Your AoA pictures are wonderful. Thanks for the tour of the resort. Howard is right - you do have a good idea and captured things from unique perspectives. I love the LM and the cars areas. They are super cool. Nice job!

As someone who has never visited AoA, your pictures and descriptions are awesome!! You could seriously include a day on the trip just to take it all in - so, so, so many fun details! :thumbsup2

I mean, who knew that fish had a mustache?! :lmao:
