Just curious... I have worked fairly hard this last year to drop weight. Now as the cruise approaches I wonder if I have just sabotaged my own success. Has anyone cruised and been able to maintain weight?

Stratergies that you have used that worked? What were the pitfalls?

happy to be going just a bit skiddish of reloosing the same weight agin.

Congrats!! I'm working on my weight and I was worried about gaining weight due to all the yummy food. Luckily, the fear of not being able to fit in to any of my clothes was a HUGE source of motivation!!

Here's what I did:
I ate whatever I wanted for dinner (but would just eat part of the really, really bad stuff...like dessert!!).

My husband and I took the stairs almost every time. After walking up five flights of stairs, all you want is water (which in my case, filled up the room that I would have filled with an ice cream cone).

We also tried to walk around the ship (the walking path) every day. We were some walking fools!

Also, we tried to chose excursions that would keep us reasonably active.

It seemed to work...since I didn't gain a pound...and NOBODY was more shocked than me.

Good luck on your trip!! I hope you have a wonderful time!!

MagicMouseketeers, congratulations on your recent weight loss. Last year on the Western Innaugural I was on WW maintenance and really fretted about gaining back weight. I found that a well balanced breakfast, no lunch, but plenty of fresh fruit throughout the afternoon and then all out for dinner worked for me. I am an early riser and hit the treadmill or deck 4 every morning for 2 miles before my DH and DS were even out of bed. (The excercise also cuts down on the appetite.) I gained exactly 1 pound on the cruise and was able to lose it before weigh in. (So it really didn't count, did it?)

Remember, you're on vacation. Relax, only eat when hungry and then only until satisfied and you'll be fine.

Enjoy your cruise.

Congratulations on your weight loss. I took 2 cruises last year after having lost 70 pounds on weight watchers and basically weighed the same after the cruises. I also got up early each morning and walked for 45-60 minutes around deck 4. I ate a good breakfast with alot of fruit, light lunch ( mostly salad and fruit) and then had whatever I wanted for dinner. I am not a big dessert eater, but every afternoon had to have the chocolate chip cookies. On our 7 day cruise, I found by mid week I was actually tired of eating and for two nights only had fruit and salad for dinner.

As long as you eat in moderation and don't overstuff yourself you should be fine. I have kept my weight off for a year and do splurge at times, but then get right back on maintence. I just got out all my cruise clothes from last year for my next trip and everything still fits.

Enjoy your cruise.

Wow... thanks for this post... over the past year, I've lost 58 lbs. I'll be on my LAST week of maintenace (will miss my weigh in) when we set sail. I'm a little bummed and hope to lose a little more to get below my goal weight before we leave in (YIKES) 3 weeks, so I have some "room" to "play" with... LOL!! I definitely intend to take advantage of the early mornings for a walk and I'd like to try some of the step classes on board.

Hi, guess we'll have a few Weight Watchers on the May 17 Eastern. I too am on maint. Have been for a ten years. Took me about 18 years to lose 95 pounds. I don't do anything the easy way. But have kept it off.

One thing that I do on the cruise is not drink all those fancy drinks that everyone loves. I'd rather eat my calories!!!!!

I am not that good when I go on a cruise. I still have a couple of the lbs. I put on last summer. Have been trying to get it off, but having one heck of a time. I am right at my goal. Was hoping too to get a few lbs. under. Guess all the sitting from Jan. thru April 15 didn't help either.

I am going for my monthly weigh in tomorrow. Nothing like waiting until the last day. Wish me luck.

Having fellow WW's on board may help me, we can give each other the encouragement we need. Should I bring the 2 point bars?

Hello,
For myself the stairs were key. I don't have a huge appetite, still I ate whatever I wanted. We stayed on deck 2 and NEVER rode in the elevator. I actually toned up, came home and added 40 minutes of bicycle time to my Pilates workout.
Enjoy and try not to stress too much about food - it's only a part of the entire experience.

First of all, I have to say THANKS for a wonderful post! I, too, am on WW (just started in January). I'm down 18 pounds and I have about 30 or so to go and sometimes I feel like the end is SO far away. We're cruising again in November and this cruise was my motivation for joining WW (my SIL and I are both going).

Anyway, just wanted to say it's nice to see so many people on WW and to hear so many success stories. I've been having a hard two weeks on the plan and this thread just gave me my strength back!

As you said..."Having fellow WW's on board may help me, we can give each other the encouragement we need." Just wondering if you have heard about the WISH board? It is fairly new and you can find all the encouragement you need from all of the great members! Last but not least, it's on the DIS! ;) Check it out sometime, you will be glad that you did! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

It is good to know that others have gone on the cruises and have been able to maintain their weight. We are going on the Wonder at the end of Sept. so I hope to get a little extra off so I can enjoy an extra dessert or two while on board. I don't have to worry about drinks since my DH and I do not drink alcohol. I have kept my weight off for 2 years now and I was concerned about gaining on our trip. Thankfully, we will be in the parks for 3 days before our cruise so I'll be getting a lot of walking in those days. Congrats to everyone who has posted concerning their success. Keep up the good work!

I am doing my 1st cruise on 5/22 and am also worried about the weight issue. I lost 45 lbs and have kept it off for a yr now. While on the cruise for dinner my plans are to eat as much seafood as possible. I love it for one and secondly, it is low in points (I know depending on how it is cooked) but I love seafood that is steamed. I love dessert, but I love dinner food more, so that is my main plan of attack. It also helps that after our cruise we are going to WDW for 6 days. If I do gain something on the cruise, I plan to walk it off in the park ;)

I guess I am one of the few here that actually loses weight on a cruise. I find that I eat whatever I want whenever I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. The portions in the resaurants are small (which is great) so I can order what I want. I NEVER take the elevator. I have two kids and walking up and down the stairs to get all of the things they've forgotten uses up a lot of energy! I also love the deck four walking track. I walked around it just for fun many times a day. By the time you factor in the pool, all of the excursions and ,of course, shopping ;) I think I do more excersize on the ship then at home.

As long as you keep moving you'll probably not have a weight problem.

BTW we don't drink alcohol which really hepls too!
:)

Congratulations to all that have lossed and maintained and Good Luck to those that are still on the Journey.

I just wanted to welcome EVERYONE to join us over on the WISH (We're Inspired to Stay Healthy) board here in the DIS. We are a terrific group of 'Losers' over there and would welcome your visit. We are following all sorts of plans from WW to Atkins and everything in between! Stop in and visit --- you may even decide to stay awhile as it is a wonderful friendly place!
