Hi all! My DH and I are going to start on Weight Watchers. Not the prepared meals and whatnot, we're going to make our own. Any other Weight Watchers people out there? How do you know how many points you need to lose a certain amount of weight? Is there a calculation to find that out???:confused3

Do you plan on attending local meetings or joining online? When you join, WW will provide you with all of the information you will need. Yes, there is a points target for each specific weight range (for example, if your current weight is 200 -224, your points target is 26). The WW folks will be happy to help you learn all of this important stuff. If you do decide to attend local meetings (which I would strongly encourage), be sure to stay after your first meeting for the "newbie" information and don't hesitate to ask ANY questions. Most WW lecturers are super helpful. If you don't love your first meeting, keep trying until you find a lecturer that works for you. Believe it or not, my favorite WW leader of all times is a 70+ year old man (and I am a 40-something Mom). He was great and funny and so helpful! He had loads of energy and told funny stories. Don't assume it needs to be someone in your specific demographic for you to enjoy it. Good luck.............................P

BTW, just wanted to add.... WW encourages you to make you own meals. Not sure if you realize this. I don't know of anyone who goes through the program just eating the frozen WW meals. WW is NOT like JC or Nutrisystem. It is much more about eating "real" food. That is why so many folks like it. Sure, we all love to be able to grab a frozen Smart Ones or a Lean Cuisine occasionally. But real food = real life. Just a fact.

I just wanted to say :welcome: again, I replied to your post on the WW thread. So glad to have you on board!

Sorry for the OT....but do you live in Toledo, Ohio? I live in Woodville and work in Walbridge...just off the east side of Toledo.

I highly recommend going to a meeting to try it out and see if WW is for you. You can go to one meeting for free. I started WW in February and have lost over 35 lbs to date. In your first meeting they will give you a book with the calculations for points based on your starting weight, they will also give you a book with all the most common foods and the point values. Once you start and get the hang of it's really not that hard. It's just about sticking to program and making sure you make time and effort to exercise. You can also sign up to use the program via the website, but I honestly prefer to actually have to weigh in at a meeting, it really works for me since it's great to share with other people that know exactly what you are going through. My DH is on it with me, but he doesn't go to meetings, I just put him on and have him weigh himself every week at home so we can compare notes and results. DH has lost 27 lbs so far. Good luck and remember the hardest part is weighing in the first time!!!!!

The best way I have found to keep on track losing weight is not to use the "extra points" you get every week. I stick to my daily points and write down EVERYTHING that touches my lips. I prefer the point system, but you can also go on the core plan which allows you to just stick to certain foods instead of tracking. I recommend asking yourself if you're a person that's more likely to track you food or just want to go to the fridge and be able to choose something to eat without writing it down.
