I have come to the point where I really do not like to see myself in the mirror or have photos taken with my children......when I see myself I really do not see "me" anymore....I see someone else in my place. It's time to finally do something about the way I feel....so I am thinking about starting Weight Watchers. I was hoping someone can give me the "lowdown" on pricing. Do you have to commit for a certain number of weeks when you join and pay by the week? What about the starter kits people sell on ebay? Are there ever any discounts for the program?

Thanks for any and all help you can provide! I really want to start feeling better about myself....and have more energy for my kids!

I am doing weight watchers meetings and I highly recommend it. I was very resistant to doing the meetings....but once I started I absolutely love them. I have been doing WW for 9 weeks now and have lost 21 pounds. I am doing the Monthly pass and it's $39.95/ month. No commitment....you can go to as many meetings as you want (only weigh in once of course) but I do just go once a week. The meetings are motivational and put's the "fear of the scale" in me :rotfl: Actually the accountability part does help keep me in line. More importantly to me I'm relearning what a "serving" of something is. I'm eating healthier foods because those are the ones lower in points (veggies & fruits) I'm eating a lot less fried foods and in the first month alone lowered my cholesterol by 20 points - it was just on the high side and it's back in the normal range....and hopefully next it will be even LOWER!! I'm filling better and get "sick" when I eat bad foods. I did actually make a pan of brownies and cut them into pieces that were the recommended serving size - I don't think I have EVER eaten a true "serving" of brownies before. And I find I'm satisfied with less and just a taste of something. Anyway - I really like weight watchers and would definitely recommend it. It's well worth the price. Also...I don't know about all plans - but I can submit my monthly fees for reimbursement through my flex plan. Good luck deciding!!

Oh...sorry I didn't see where you asked about paying by the week. I think there is a minimum commitment doing it that way....But I have never done it that way. If the montly pass is available in your area you can cancel at anytime. And I would give it at least 4 weeks before you decide you do or don't like it.

Thanks so much for the info! Sounds like you are doing great!!! I can understand about the brownies....I hardly ever cut things up into the actual "servings" as noted on the box/bag.....I think my portion sizes are well above what I should be eating.

Do you receive the kit with the point books and so on at the 1st meeting when you join?

Yes, you get the whole package week one, plus a lesson on how it works. The slider can be confusing. And each week you get a new "book" with a topic (exercise, portions, etc) plus an occasional freebie like how to use watermelon or recipes with tomatoes

Check out weightwatchers.com for more info on the program and the costs.

There is a an additional kit you can buy also that has I believe a points calculator, the dining out book, and then a points book on just regular food. You don't have to buy that though - you can do it without it and with the monthly pass you get Etools which also has a points calculator on it. I like the kit and actually bought it when I tried the "at home" version while I was still anti-meetings :) But you can definitely do it without it while you give it a try and then if you like it it might be worth getting the "kit" later.
