I'm planning a trip to the big WORLD in April 2008. I'm a Weight Watchers member. Any tips to stay on the program with all that FOOOOOOD?

This is probably not the "best" advice....but when I was there in September I put my Weight Watchers diet on hold. I just picked it back up when I got home. I did SOOOO MUCH walking that I didn't gain weight! Good luck! :thumbsup2 :woohoo:

:thumbsup2 Thanks for the info....My leader says the same thing. As long as you jump back onto the program I should be ok. He tells everyone the same for major holidays.:flower3:

My best advice is to take the long way to get to places in the park. I went there last year after losing 40 pounds and used the disney dining program. The next advice is to just portion out your foods, not everything there is evil... :rolleyes1 . I would say that with all the walking you should be able to splurge...just don't eat everything on your plate. Take a look at the menus on allearsnet.com and pick places that have healthy options. there are many good salads/shrimp/chicken dishes out there. Good luck but don't panic, you will make it through just fine.

Last year I lost 30 pounds, spent 4 days at Disney :wizard: and didn't gain an ounce. I'm on round 2 of burning my butt off. I'm hoping to drop another 30 by my next trip. I just want to stay good :cheer2:

my mom is very commited to WW, adn when we went to WDW she had no problem following the program.............She was able to stick with it, besides WDW has so many better options, and when she cheated a little, she knew she would be ok since she did all that walking........she lost 4lbs that week:thumbsup2

I hear that the candy coated pretzel rods at Goofy's are only 154788512 pts!

me too, did ww on my last 2 disney trips, with all of the walking and swimming and as long as your try a little to pick better choices you should be okay....

I am a WW leader and I just got back from free Dining at Disney. I lost a pound. Here's my advice. It isn't just about going "off-plan" for a week. You'll probably find your tummy has shrunk enough that even without trying to you'll lose weight on vacation. The key is to have a post-vacation plan in place. We get very used to eating the deliciousness down there & then when we see we don't gain we unconciously think we can continue to eat that way back home.

So have a pre-vacation plan (realize you won't be totally on-plan while hectically getting things together those last few days) have a during vacation plan (like wearing a pedometer & making at least one healthy choice a day & sharing whenever possible) and a post-vacation plan (like going to a meeting within two days of coming home and getting right back on the exercise bandwagon, tracking bandwagon.) Make sure to write down your plans and have a new Winning Outcome before you come home if your old Winning Outcome had to do with "lose xx lbs before Disney World."

As for healthy choices, I found lots at Disney. I especially tried to eat healthy at breakfast and generally just had a banana. By the end of the week, if I'm being honest, I was having a banana and a chocolate croissant for breakfast so I then had to choose fruit or something else healthy for lunch. The salads at the counter service places were pretty good. Finally, if you don't like something, spit it out. Don't eat something at WDW that isn't incredible. There are just too many delish things there to waste even one mouthful on something you aren't crazy about.

Hope that helps and if you have any specific questions I'd be happy to help. WDW & WW are two of my favorite subjects!

Thanks for all the tippage peeps. I don't feel alone in this battle. If I hear of any other tips, I'll chime in. This is the first time I used the boards....it's great:cool1:

Welcome to the DIS!

I have found that eating a small fairly health breakfast and then not going too crazy with the other meals (but still enjoying what I want including desserts) and drinking lots of water works well for me. With all that walking I usually lose weight but at the worst I stay the same.

I think the key is to have a plan to get right back on plan when you return. Good luck!!!

WOW what great advice. I was thinking of doing healthy breakfast and lunch and whatever I wanted at dinner since we are doing all that walking. I just love threads like this. Keep the tip coming.

:cheer2: Welcome to the DIS!:cheer2:

Glad you found us. There is a board called WISH (We're Inspired to Stay Healthy). It is an excellant community here on the DIS and a very supportive group. Here is a link to the W.I.S.H. board

Have fun and good luck planning your trip:cool1:

I've been at goal for over a year but I don't watch what I eat on vacation. We just came back from 10 days of free dining AND Food and Wine Festival. I think I gained 3 pounds and it was gone again in less than a week. I think it was mostly water weight from the sodium! To me, vacation is vacation from EVERYTHING, including watching what I eat all day! It feels so good to let loose and have an ice cream sundae for lunch and a few glasses of wine with dinner. Then, it feels that much better to get back OP when I get home! You'll find that even by letting totally loose, your going to make better decisions anyway. After being on WW for so long, I crave a nice big chicken salad over a burger any day! Good luck with whatever you decide to do!:wizard:

I lost 40 lbs with WW & will have been at goal for a year on Oct 26. I do what I want & eat whatever I want on vacation. This 5 day trip I gained about 7 lbs.!!:scared1: I know alot of that was salt & soda which I never drink. I have totally changed my way of eating & thinking due to WW, but I will not sacrifice during my vacation. It is a break from everything. I have already lost 4 of the 7 in a week. I think as long as you have a plan when you get home you'll be fine. Don't get me wrong-by the end of the trip, I felt pretty gross & I was ready to get back to my healthy way of eating. Only you know what is right for you & what you will be happy with. If you decide to splurge, don't beat yourself up over it. Enjoy it & get right back on track. Have a good time & keep up the good work.

LOL....possibly! I wonder how many points a Dole Whip float is???? I have my fair share of those when I was there! ;)

I have been trying to find this too. I know when I was in college they had Dole Whip and remember it being a healthier choice than ice cream. I did a google search and could not find nutrition info anywhere. If anyone this out please pass it on. I am staying at the Polynesian and they have their own Dole Whip machine:cool1:

I'm not on WW, but I'm on NutriSystems. I have lost 17 pounds so far. I'm taking my breakfasts and snacks with me. For lunch I will just have a salad. For dinner, I will eat what I want, only in moderation. NutriSystems is about low fat and portion control.

Just wanted to say "HI" to my sister :goodvibes !!!!! You're finally on the Dis !!:cool1:
Great question for your first post !:thumbsup2
Some great answers here. Keep 'em coming. I'm interested too !!
