will you try Dr Atkin?
have anyone tried?
i am so tempted to read the book but i also don't want to have heart attack...
thanks

What abot the South Beach diet? It is similar to Atkins, but with fruits and veggies, and its not quite as hard to stick to. Id try that one first.

I started on Atkins, and it is not as hard as I thought it would be, its only been a week and half but I can already tell the difference in my body, my complexion, my energy level is much higher. I am doing it well, you just have to find foods that you enjoy, that taste good, and remember to drink lots of water. I have a lot more I could tell you but I would recommed trying out the Wish Board, there is a lot of info, support and also a lot of atkins, and low carb friendly recipes. I was very skeptical at first but now that I am on it , it seems easy. Good luck and Pm me if you need any more info or help.

thanks for ur info
so you only eat high protein food?
what kind of food is high protein?
and you don't eat any bread?
how much you have lost?
thanks

Well, I mostly only eat meats, cheeses, salads, a small assortment of veggies, some nuts. The Atkins program is supposed to be in phases, the first two weeks is the induction phase, where you limit yourself to less than 20 carbs per day, this is supposed to kick-start your weight loss, and then you are supposed to gradually add back on carbs, then when you have achieved your goal weight you do something called lifetime maintenance, but since I am only just beginning I can't tell you much about that. You should go to the web site, www.atkins.com, which is the official site for a lot of info, and then this site www.lowcarbfriends.com is a board very similar to this one where people chat, share thought, before and after pics, offer support and there are some good recipes on there too. I have found that while on Atkins you don't have to totally eliminate things you love to eat, you just have to revamp them so they contain less carbs. Two days ago I found low carb tortillas by Mission, and they are so good, I like them better than the regular ones. If there is anything I can help you with or if you need some meal plans or recipes, let me know. Best of luck.

Forgot to answer your other questions, nope no bread, but if I had to eat it, there is also carb controlled bread, I think it has something like 8 or 9 carbs per slice, but since a sandwich with two slices of bread would be almost 20 carbs by itself, I haven't been eating it. And in the last week and half I have already lost 10 lbs, but I have also been keeping very busy and exercising. Hope I can help you.

THANK YOUR FOR YOUR INFO
the concern that i have, is that Dr Atkin's method has not been proven no harm to body. but their result is amazing
i think i will buy the book to see if it is easy to follow.
which book would you recommand ?
thanks

i have not read the book yet
so the general rule is:
- no Carb (no bread.... biscuit...)
-high protein (meaning i can have plenty of eggs...and what else contains protein??)

do you still drink coke?
thanks once again

my husband was on the atkins and saw great results.. but he just had to get off it because he got gout in his wrist. the emergency room dr. said it was from the diet. so just be very careful. he is very upset he has to go off it because it's the only one that ever worked!

THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW
how much did he lose?
when you say i have to be careful, what do you mean? do you recommand Atkins?
thanks

he lost over 80lbs... but i think he did it too fast. he used to drink lots of water but latley he has slowed down. he also has been drinking wine more than he used to.. so i think if you follow the diet to a T and drink lots of water.. stay away from wine and beer, you should be good.

thanks for your info
i think i will start with Atkins soon
anyone has more advised?
thanks

Hi there...I just wanted to say I did atkins for a period of time. And lost some weight about 25lbs. in a short time. But in the long run..it was really hard to stick with..Had to many cravings for carbs..just a piece of toast or anything crunchy. Since being off atkins I have gained all the weight back...not to pleased with that. Now they have so many low carb snacks...I could see it being easer now to stick with it...but I defently wouldn't want to do it for life. And with the experiencs of stopping atkins and eating fruits and vegies and normal carb foods it all comes back eventually....I'm not saying it all came back quickly...it took a good year and a half...but it all came back. After my period off atkins....and still wanting to loose weight..I joined weight watchers...and LOVE it. Very easy to follow...no cravings since there are no off limit foods. (you always want what you cant have). You can do it alone, or attend group meetings, you can even do it on line. I've lost a total of 23 lbs.. Ive been at it for 8 weeks now, and I'm still going strong with the plan. I can see it being a life style change.

I know too many people who have gotten sick on Atkins. It seems to be a good quick fix, but no one I know has been able to make it into a permanent lifestyle.
I, on the other hand, just cut back my calories and upped my work-out sessions. I cut my calories by 300-500 per day under the intake to maintain a weight and worked out at around 400 per day and left weekends free to do as I please. In 16 weeks, I have lost 17 pounds and with that, I have gained lots of muscle. The best is I LOVE the lifestyle I am leading now and see this as a life-long commitment I can stick with to be fit and healthy.
BTW - I am modeling my diet to a diabetic diet. Great balance of everything.

I've been on the GI diet since Easter and lost 25 lb (after the first 2 weeks I started cheating I can't live w/o peanut butter and coffee) I loaned my book to a friend so I don't know who the author is but I bought it on amazon. It is a low sugar low fat diet similar to what they suggest to people w/ diabetes. It really hasn't been that hard and I love food (DF is a chef). Good luck.

MY H2B IS AN INTERNALIST AND SAY'S THE ATKINS DIET CAN BE HIGH RISK BECAUSE YOUR BODY (KIDNEYS & LIVER) CAN ONLY PROCESS 3 OZ. OF MEAT AT ONE TIME, ANYTHING OVER THAT RAISES TOXIN LEVELS AND MASS CONSUMPTION OF MEAT & PROTEIN CAN OVERTIME CAUSE LIVER & KIDNEY DISEASE, EVEN DEATH. BEST WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT MAINTAIN A HEALTHY DIET & LIFESTYLE (1200-1400 CALORIES A DAY FOR WOMEN 20-45 YRS OF AGE - CHANGES W/ MENOPAUSE) TO LOSE WEIGHT AND STRESS RELIEF (YOGA, TAICHI, ENOUGH SLEEP) WITH CONSISTENT EXERCISE 5-6 DAYS A WEEK. I'VE LOST 18LBS. THIS WAY THESE PAST 2MONTHS. BEST OF LUCK TO ALL BRIDES, I'M SURE WE'LL ALL LOOK BEAUTIFUL ON ARE WEDDING DAYS!

so far, i have been trying Atkins for 2 days, i feel that it is quite diffifcult to follow, as you cannot eat any Carbohydrate....
and since i can only take 20g of carb, sometimes i would feel dizzy, and the need to have sugar
i hope this is just a transition, and i wish i will be able to lose some weight

I went on Weight Watchers two years ago and lost about 15 pounds (fortunately this is all I needed to lose at the time.) I did not gain anything back until I became pregnant. Two months after my son was born I went back on Weight Watchers to lose the weight that didn't go away on it's own. I lost 35 pounds. It has been 6 or 7 months and I have not put any of the weight back on. I watch what I eat, but enjoy plenty of fatty foods and high calorie stuff. Weight Watchers just teaches you how to juggle it all. I love it. I don't even go to meetings. For less then 20 dollars a month I do it all online. There is even a log to write down what you eat and it adds up your points for you. You can eat just about anything. If you plan to have a big dinner, you just eat healthier for breakfast and lunch!!!
