Just curious if anyone on the board has had lapband or gastric bypass and used the DDP. I'm a lapband patient and wondered if Disney accommodated WLS patients. Basically I'm asking If I eat at a buffet, will they box up whats on my plate as long as it looks like I actually ate something? If we are having TS at a place like Chefs de France will they box up my uneaten food or my dessert so I can take it to go after I'm done eating.

TIA

don't think they will box up anything at a buffet - don't recall anyone having any success with that at all, even when there was fairly extenuating circumstances. It's just basically understood that you're paying one price to eat as much, or as little, as you want at a buffet, so that may not be a good choice for you.

At regular table service restaurants, yes, they will box up your leftovers & desserts. However, many, many desserts at Disney restaurants are not the type that will "keep" - creamy mousses, al a mode, gelatos, etc. that will melt in the typical Florida weather so that will severly limit your choices on desserts which can be taken with. And unless you're in a villa, there's no microwaves in most rooms so your left-over dinner is going to be cold. Then, there's the matter of when you're eating & whether you'll be back to your hotel soon -- again, wouldn't want to eat something that sat around in a backpack for hours in the Florida heat.

Buffets are 'all you care to eat' while you are in the dining venue. No, they will not box up anything for any diner. If you take something on your plate and don't eat it, it doesn't leave the restaurant except through the kitchen.

At buffets no way are they going to allow you to box up food.:rotfl: Yeah, I'd love to grab a few extra zebra domes at Bomas or maybe some oreo bon bons at Cape Mays to have in my room later. Seriously, they can't allow it. If they did, then everyone would get a few extra cookies or an extra piece of fruit on their plate to then save for later.

In fact, someone posted a few months ago very upset that their little one was sick just before they went to Chef Mickey's and didn't eat but a few a bites. They asked to box up her plate and were refused. They seemed to think that a mistake was made, so came on here to ask about it. Everyone pretty much told them the same as you are being told. A buffet is for all you can eat while you are sitting there. The main price of a buffet is for the character interaction anyway. I know a few years ago I took my son and GD to CP. My GD really wanted to go and so didn't tell us she wasn't feeling well until we got there. She literally took only a few sips of her soda and didn't eat a single bite. We were still charged full price for her and no they did not offer to let us take anything off her plate for later either.

At regular TS meals you should be able to ask for a to go box though.

OT: Buffet restaurants around here have signs saying that no food is allowed to leave the restaurants. My eldest D-I-L had lap band surgery several years ago and never eats more than a few bites of a child's meal anywhere we eat. At these buffets she is charged full price. Once she showed them a doctors note showing that she had had the lap band surgery. They said they could make no exceptions, because if people saw her taking food out, even food left on her plate, then others would insist on doing so also.

I had my gastric bypass surgery the end of May 2008 and we were at Disney for a convention in July. We did all of our meals OOP. We only ate at two buffets: dinner at CM and breakfast at Trail's End. At both of those I showed them my card from my surgeon and they only charged me the child's price. At the time my meals consisted of only 3-4 ounces of protein. That would be a few boiled shrimp and a small piece of salmon or grilled chicken on a salad plate for dinner or a couple of scrambled eggs for breakfast.

We are returning in June and using the DDP. For the most part we are avoiding buffets (only CP for DD21 who likes Pooh and 1900 Park Fare) and I have pretty much decided on my fish entrees for our TS dinners. When we sent our restaurant choices to the IPO I noted that I could not have carbs and starches with my meals, so hopefully I will get veggies instead of sides of rice or potatoes on my plate. My DW and DD will probably get the dessert, unless we decide to leave it.

Agree with others that getting food boxed to go from a buffet will not happen. I'm just hoping where I have read others' reviews that thought serving portions were small for the price, the entrees will be more than sufficient for my appetite.

And the difference between you, 77SU, and RivieraMaya05 is that you did NOT use any Disney Dining Plan to pay for your food. Since you paid cash, the card from your surgeon enabled you to pay child price at Disney buffets.

This would not be true of DDP credits. An adult could order a child meal, but would have to use an adult credit.
