Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Beth: Have you tried Truvia or Purevia yet? They are both Stevia based sweeteners. I think we've had a Stevia discussion before. I've used it and haven't been thrilled with it. I bought a package of Purevia and have been very impressed. It seems much more like sugar than the stevia I've tried. I've had it in tea and sprinkled on my yogurt. You can't cook with it, but it might replace your Splenda in some areas. Although maybe Jillian is against all sweeteners? even if they are "natural" (as is botulism and dirt, but we don't go around eating them on purpose).

Don't have an answer for a replacement for Diet Coke. I have heard they make Zevia in cola flavor and it is sweetened with Stevia. I remember my Diet Coke days and I doubt a substitute will do.

Man, 6 games next week. Good luck with that.

Maria: Good job sticking with your food plan. I am WISHing good things for you on the scale tomorrow. I think your plan to swap around your workouts is wise. Enjoy your sleeping in and your breakfast. I'm not sure what my crew has planned for me. I just told my husband that it would be really nice if he planned something for dinner. As long as I don't have to cook it, I'll love it.

Hi to all the other Lean Meaners.
Cindy

Hey Lean Meaners! Just popping in to say a quick hello :wave2:

Cindy - I'll give your downhill technique a try this weekend. My LR route has a nice incline on it. Any plans for your staycation or just house work/errands? I wish I had a few days to clean up around my place.

Beth - What were you making with the ground up Oreos? I love Oreo cookies, just the cookie part though :cutie: Hope your weather improves!

Maria - Ya ya! The first time I did WW, I was really good with points and measuring everything out. Now not so much :rotfl: I hope your weigh-in goes well tomorrow!

AFM - Not much of import to report here... my eating has been so-so lately. I haven't weighed myself in quite sometime. I'm just afraid of seeing what the scale will say but will probably be better off knowing where I am.

Oh I registered for a 5K - it's going to be held on a runway at the airport! Cool! :) That isn't until June though...

Have a great day everyone!

Vicky: My ds#1 had an earth day thing at school, and they were making dirt dessert with the oreos (oreos make great dirt!). I am so sorry I picked the Oreos to donate......you can't just eat one Oreo! :sad2: Man....I hadn't had an Oreo for a long time, and they are just the best cookie around! I have put a moretorium on them from now on......just can't go there.

Cindy: Jillian Michaels has banned all sugar substitutes! :sad2: :sad1: I am still on the fence how I am going to handle this information!

Ok, the book "Master Your Metabolism" is interesting reading. I knew going into it that my biggest problems are portion sizes, processed foods (though I don't eat alot of them, but I do rely on sugar-free everything), and my beloved diet Coke. She has some great points with the fact that we have screwed up our hormones by eating and using so many chemicals. I don't think I will be able to go to all organics, but will think of those options with some produce and canned tomatoes. It's just too expensive to go 'all out' with the organics. She also wants me to ban all plastic.......storage containers, baggies, etc......which is not going to happen either. What can I bring lunch in? I don't want to cart glass containers for lunch, and store everything in glass at home......seems to much to me. She says that we are poisioning ourselves with plastic. Everything is stored in plastic, if she is interested. Even if I wanted too, I wouldn't be able to do it. She also doesn't like cans either.......picky, picky, picky! If you eliminate cans and plastic, what are you left with?

I am going to try to limit my processed foods and diet Coke for a week. I know there has to be a reason that I am working out 2 or more hours a day, watching what I eat, and still not losing much weight. Could it be the hormone thing? Maybe. I know I will suffer next week off the diet Coke, but I did it before, I can do it again.

I worked out almost 3 hours yesterday with running in the AM and then 2 back to back classes last night. I was REALLY tired this morning, so I didn't run the TM. I will try to get out tonight to run outside (joy!), but I still have to cut the grass. Don't know if I can fit a run in or not......to be determined!

Beth

Good Friday Morning, Lean Meaners! :goodvibes

Ok, even with TOM, my weight went down 3 lbs this week. I am so happy! I really think this new system is working for me. Now I just have to be strong and get through this weekend -- Mexican restaurant tonight to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary, lunch at A Friendly Toast, a brunch place with unique decor and decadent items (almond joy pancakes, anyone?), Mother's Day Breakfast in Bed (I asked for a smoothie, so that should be ok), and then a viewing of "Star Trek" Sunday afternoon. It could very easily be an eatapalooza. I have a plan, so hopefully I will stick to it and it will work. I get 1 margarita tonight, I have to pick an omelet or egg dish tomorrow, and Sunday afternoon I'm going with my twizzlers pull and peel, with a baggie containing exactly what I intend to eat.

I'm still doing my scheduled workouts, and they're actually getting easier, so I know I'm improving. I'm averating 4.1 mph on the TM, so I've even gotten a little faster. I know that sounds pathetically slow to most of you, but we're all on our individual journeys here. Believe it or not, that is a jog for me. I'm starting to think I really can hit that milestone by my birthday next month since I'm going to continue to apply myself. :thumbsup2

Beth -- I do :lovestruc Jillian, but what is she smoking? How on earth do you completely remove plastic from your life?! :confused3 I hope you have time for a run. All those pesky baseball games are getting in the way! It is frustrating when they seem to take up so much time. I also hope you have more energy later. Fridays are the hardest day for me to stay awake at night. I'm often asleep by 9. I think it's because I'm "on" so much during the week, my body just shuts down when it can.

Vicky -- a 5K on a runway sounds really, really fun! I wish I could try something like that. Now you have a fantastic event to look forward to! :yay: Sorry about the blender, that's something that would happen to me.

Cindy -- I'm sure you will have a great day on Sunday. How could you not with that adorable family?! :flower3:

Everyone have a great weekend!
Maria :upsidedow

Hi Lean Meaners.
Sorry, I've been MIA again.....so many kids, so little time.;)
Maria....I borrowed the Beck book from the library, so I'm not sure exactly how far I got. Add me to the others who have lots of diet books on their nightstands and bookshelves. Almond Joy Pancakes? Yum, yum, yum! I always find it frustrating with WW that when I lose weight I get rewarded by also losing points:confused3! I understand the theory, it's just frustrating for me.
Beth...I'm adding the Jillian book to my library request. I also seem to have weight loss as a hobby....that really is scary. Nice time on your half marathon, I'm happy that it was such a good race for you. Back to Jillian, I'm surprised that she says no plastic when the BL really talks up the Ziploc steamfresh bags. I can see getting rid of plastic, but how do I get rid of cans?
Cindy...way to go on pacing yourself, that's something that I always struggle with....my pace is all over the place.
Amy....:bday: lucky girl getting to go to WDW! How was it?
Vicky...okay, I'll have to figure out his coach's name and google him.....it's worth a shot to make my kiddo happy. Great pace on your 10k! We've had the same thing happen with a blender, what a mess. I've also had an incident with adding flour to the cookie dough and DS turned the mixer on full blast......mess, mess, mess!
Jeff... cute pics of your girls. Who makes the milk carton boats? Those are really cool.
Deb...great job on the weight loss. You have been so consistent. Sounds like DOOD had a great race! I think it's so much fun to volunteer at races.
I'm going to check with Allyson and see if she took pics of Ryan Hall.

I stopped food journaling for awhile because it was getting frustrating. I'll pick it back up when school lets out. That will keep me from cleaning up the kids leftovers on their plates. Luckily, I'm still maintaining my weight. I have a Girls on the Run 5k race next weekend that I'm looking forward to and DS is going into Districts and Sectionals for Track, but he also sprained his ankle last week, so we'll see how that goes. I have a Mother's Day Tea with DS8 today. We had to send in $1 to help pay for cookies and he insisted on paying out of his piggy bank....he's the cutest. Unfortunately, it's raining cats and dogs with thunder and lightning and (because we have the school picnic this weekend and can't park on the school lot) I have to park 1/2 mile away from school and walk (in a skirt no less) I'm sure I'll look beautiful once I get there;). Oh well, Tad won't care, he's just glad I'm coming.

Have a great weekend everybody.

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Tracey: Nice to see you here. Your Mother's Day tea sounds very nice. What a sweet kid to pay with his own money. It is tough to keep up with the food journaling. Are your kids out of school soon? Good luck to your son with his sprained ankle. Hope it doesn't hinder his performance in districts and sectionals.

Maria: Great job with your 3 lb loss. That's terrific. I didn't realize the Friendly Toast had several locations. They are opening one up near where I work. Almond Joy pancakes sound fabulous. Good luck with your eating with all you have planned this weekend. Sounds like you have a good strategy. I've heard the Star Trek is great.

Beth: Good luck to you trying to clean up your eating. I always tell myself I am trying to lose weight to be healthier, but then look at all the chemicals I still put in my body. Can't be that healthy. I'll be routing for you to do well with it. Wow, 3 hours of exercise. That's terrific. You deserved to sleep in a bit.

Vicky: Hi, hope things are going well. Have you gotten on the scale yet? I just can't get out of the habit of getting on too much.

I was doing really well with my eating this week until Friday afternoon. This is the 3rd Friday in the afternoon that I've strapped the food-bag on. I need to change my schedule for Fridays. I know it's because I'm exhausted after working 3 12 hour days the previous days. Then I rush to get a workout in before picking my girls up at lunchtime. I should bring them outside to play, but I'm too tired so we usually do something in the house where the food is calling me. Maybe we'll start to go to the library on Fridays. That way I have no choice but not eat.

I got a speed workout done on the TM yesterday in addition to a Jillian DVD. Today has been a DVD, but that is all. Lots of housework to do today. I'm trying to be extra good eating today so I can splurge a bit tomorrow. Since I put my DH in charge of meals tomorrow, I don't want to offend him by not eating.

Well, back to chores now. Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Hey Lean Mean Brigade!

I hope everyone had a fantastic Mother's Day, whether it was being a celebrated mom, celebrating your mom, or another woman who is special in your life! :goodvibes

I did great this weekend until yesterday. My eating plan fell apart. I know my guys meant well, but I'm pretty sure I had two days' worth of calories. All I can do is get back on track today and hope it comes off quickly.

We saw "Star Trek", and I could not be more pleased with the movie. It was unexpected, but I think very clever with regard to positioning the franchise for future films -- which is what I'm going for -- I want a dynasty! ::yes::

Cindy -- The Friendly Toast is currently in Portsmouth, opening in Cambridge, and I believe looking for other locations. I think it makes a great occasional treat. :thumbsup2

Tracey -- I hope ds's ankle doesn't hinder him. I'm sure your tea was lovely, even with nasty weather. I hope all your guys made your day extra special! :yay:

I really wanted to take a sick day today, but I just couldn't justify it. The hardest thing I did this weekend was book a rental car for our upcoming trip. This weekend we have to go through the suitcases to see what works and what we should have thrown out of the attic. We have a bad habit of figuring out their bad, and then leaving them up there. I know we need a suitcase for ds, but other than that I have to see what we have to work with. I did find the pop-up laundry hamper :laundy: so that's always good! We don't actually do laundry, but it's great to have a place to put it all.

I hope everyone is off to a great start to the week! :cheer2:

Maria :upsidedow

Good morning Lean Meaners. Here's another Monday on tap!

Cindy: Housework is somewhat a four letter word for me! (you could tell that by coming to my house right now!) My house will never recover from me working full time for several months........reminds me of a landfill right now. So, why don't you come over and help me clean??? :rotfl2:

Tracey: Your ds is so cute! Bless him for spending his own money on you! Hope you had fun at your tea!

Maria: Okay, book review time.......have to say, Jillian has got me out of my slump. I have been staying around the same weight (plus and minus a few pounds) for a month or so......getting very frustrating! So, I gave up my process foods, sugar substitutes, and diet Coke under her 'direction'. I was pretty non-committel about the whole thing, but I spent good money on the stupid book so I will try it....... I had a raging headache on Saturday from the diet soda withdrawal, and not feeling too kindly towards Jillian...... So, I get on the scale on Sunday morning.......I lost 4 POUNDS since Friday! WTH???? I have been stuck so long.....I thought I had lost my mind! 4 pounds in 2 days is ALOT for me, especially at this point in the game! So, YIPPEE! To be perfectly honest, I don't think it is the soda thing.....I had one Friday morning, so it's only been a little while. I do think it has to do with the portion control thing. I am eating less, and eating foods I don't usually eat. I think it has to do with that, but I am happy with the results since the weekends are usually hard for me! I have committed to the rest of the week for the no soda thing.......we will see how it goes.

I will probably stick to the whole foods (Jillian says don't eat anything that doesn't come from the ground or had a mother). I would love to get 15 pounds off! I am eating foods that a really different for me right now, so it's been fun experimenting with things.

AFM: I got a nice outside run in on Saturday......boy I love running outside! I have been stuck on my TM for so long, I don't know how to act outside! Mothers Day was really nice. I ran my TM for 3 miles, and then the whole family went to Hershey Park for the day. I had a free pass from Friendly's, and got discount tickets from Giant for the rest of the family. We had a great time, and I didn't have to cook! I took my own lunch, so I could stay on track for the weight loss thing. I did really well, and was happy to say the weight loss from Sunday was still with me this morning! :dance3:

Beth

I'm back, I'm back, I'm back. All my issues with the computer and the DIS aren't resolved, but it's much, much better. As normal as the DIS gets. So I'm back to posting on my first home, rather than relying on FB to give me the skinny of some of you. :goodvibes

Jeff: As usual, I love all the pictures: Princess #1's triathlon is great. She looks like she's having lots of fun this year. Your pictures of the clinic really highlight what a community of runners your group is. Like you, though, I'm puzzled that the Queen and Princess #2 didn't collect lots of pictures of their encounter with Maya Sorento-Ng. I'm not sure they're related to you. :lmao:

Beth: Congratulations on your 1/2 marathon. DOOD just found out there's an ultramarathon in Lehigh Valley that he might want to do sometime. His friend is pushing it, but I don't think he can do it this year. Your performance on the race was more than respectable, especially given the rain and your hip! All that training is paying off. I didn't realize you're doing the Philly Distance Run--when is that? How long, a 1/2?

And woo hoo for getting back to the 2x a day workouts. That's my goal for June, to work up to double-dipping regularly. (That's when DOOD is gone, so it's a good time to change up the routine.) And Jillian's DVD are in my Netflix queue for June, too!

About diet Coke...I give it up for a while, then go right back to drinking it. Abandoning the diet soda for good is a Holy Grail of healthy habits for me. And it sounds like I need to read up on Jillian's position on a lot of things, both exercise AND nutrition, and even read Master Your Metabolism? I'll be interested in how your experiment with the eating/diet Coke goes over the whole week. The 4 pounds you lost is QUITE the incentive.

Maria: I replied on the 'Ohana thread, but I picked up the Beck Diet Solution at the library yesterday. I was at the Carnegie Main (the main Pgh public library, not my local one), saw it on the shelf, thought of you, and grabbed it. How are you adjusting to your lower points category? I'm not on WW, but I know how disgusted I get when I lose weight so that must means I need to eat even fewer calories. Doesn't seem quite fair, KWIM?

I'm glad you're doing so well between WW, your switched-up WO routine, the Beck Diet book, and your timeline. I like the way you use the word "milestone" too, as it sounds so much better than thinking about it as a deadline. (The way I think.) And a big woo hoo for the 3 pound loss going into Mother's Day. :cheer2: I know there were many indulgences yesterday, but also know you're not going to let that day of decadence (well deserved, you great mom) derail your week.

Vicky: Did you pick up flaxseed? I quite like it, now that I'm eating it regularly. And uh, yeah. I forgot to tell you what ratatouille looks like. I had the same reaction and it was hard to work myself around its appearance to appreciate the taste. I'm very driven by the visual. Congrats on your 10-mile LR! And your 5K sounds really, really cool. You'll be flying for it, I'm sure. (Nope, couldn't resist the pun.)

Cindy: Yay for the consistent eating during the week. It sounds like a second WW meeting might be just the support you need. That and a switched-up Friday routine, where a trip to the library sounds like a great compromise! The weekends are a danger time for me, too, especially Friday. (Take-out night.)

I try to balance out my regular groceries with organic when possible. It's so much easier during the summer, what with all the local farmer's markets. But like everyone, cost IS a factor for us.

Tracey: Did you take pictures of the tea? Is so, I'd like to see it, as that event sounds like so much fun. I know what you mean by journalling. I dislike doing it because I don't want "to be that girl." Unfortunately, I'm being to realize what happens to me if I don't journal (I gain weight, lots of it and quickly). So if I don't journal I'm going "to be that other girl," the one 50 pounds heavier and tired all the time (which I was). And that's less acceptable to me. *sigh*

Anyway, how is DS's ankle? Will he be able to compete? And your Girls on the Run 5K is this weekend, right? I haven't missed it yet? Are you excited??

As for me: DOOD's relay marathon--yes I know it's been ages ago--went well. It's still not a course either of us recommend. The hills would be hard to PR on, it goes through some broken-down neighborhoods as well as picturesque ones, and the crowds seemed really small. Plus, the water stops were all but useless. Some stops were literally one 6-foot table set up with styrofoam cups that you can't pinch to pour water into your mouth. And I saw water-stop volunteers who were texting instead of paying attention to the runners. I think the race will improve, but it's not of a caliber yet to justify traveling far to run/walk it. That said, DOOD did very well on his relay--ran 3/4 of the race for a little over 19 miles in 3 hours. Just to keep his teammates company. He felt strong enough to 14 miles this Saturday.

Okay, that's not really about me. About me. Did the RftC, untimed because I'm not paying extra for the chip for that race (too crowded). I was somewhere between 35-40 minutes, as I wasn't paying close attention myself. It was more about being there and thinking of Nancy. :goodvibes That's the good news. The bad news is that I've been totally off schedule with working out and eating. I'm up a pound this week. And that's without being incredibly irresponsible with the eating/exercise combo. Just a little less focused. :sad2: It turns out you're my primary accountability system and without you (and with DOOD home all the time) my schedule has been thrown off. I'm back here, and with your help , hopefully this week will be better.

Welcome Back Debra!!!! I have missed you, and very glad to see that you were here and posting! Sorry about the computer difficulties......I hope they work themselves out soon!

Master Your Metabolism has been an interesting read. (disclaimer: I find all diet/exercise books interesting though!) I feel there is so much information out there, and what's right for one is not right for others. I like to read alot of information, and take what I need from each. I do think there is alot of merit to all the chemicals in the air and in our food screwing up our bodies without us being aware of it. But, it just makes me mad that all the chemicals taste good! She had an interesting part of the book.....major corporations sharing information with each other. The companies would be the alcohol, cigarettes, and snack food people. The information is how to make people MORE addicted to smoking, drinking, or eating crap. Those that are addicted to one thing, are usually addicted to more! The one culprit she talked about was OREO cookies (which I just had a run in with.....and you absolutely cannot eat just one!).

I will be interested how the week turns out for me. I have certainly increased my intake of healthy carbs (with difficulty, I must add). I even made Hummus (the name just turns me off though). Hummus wasn't bad, but it took me awhile eating it to get around the consistency. I thought I would be adventurous since I am trying new things!

Vicky: Did you try the flaxseed? I was using it in the past, but didn't know you have to grind it up to activate it. So, I was eating it for nothing I guess! :confused3

Maria: What do you have to share from the The Beck Diet Solution anything interesting? Maybe that will be my next endenvour.

AFM: Well, baseball is in full swing. And it's going to do a number on my exercise time. :sad2: I have games every day this week...... but last nights was cancelled (:yay:) so I did get Pilates in! I was happy about that, but the rest of the week is a bust. I got up extra early today and got 4 miles in instead of 3 (it's sad, but all I can do in the morning). I was going to stretch it to 5, but it would have made me to late......it takes alot of work to get the kids ready for school as it is! And, ds#2 has decided that he too wants to pack lunch everyday, so it's 3 breakfasts and 3 lunches to get ready every morning. Between the evening lunch prep and morning prep, my lunches take about 30 to 40 minutes of my time anymore......:scared1: So, long story short, I couldn't get an even hour in on the TM this AM!

Eating is going well, but the cravings have really been killing me at night. Last night, sugar was on my mind!:rolleyes1popcorn:::eek: I did hold strong, but not without effort! Hopefully, things will even out over the weeks time.

Hope to see some of you lurkers check in today!

Beth

Good Morning Everyone,

Just a quick post because I really need to get back to cleaning. I am excited to have the time off to clean this week, but am somewhat overwhelmed about how many things made it on to my list. I wiped down the fronts of all my kitchen cabinets today. It took forever. Guess that's what happens when you wait 11 years in between cleanings. Next on tap is clearing out all the too small clothes in my daughters' closet. It's a pain to do, but it's so nice knowing it will make my life easier in picking out clothes for them to wear each day.

Beth: Good job resisting the sugar craving. The more you resist, the easier it will get. Keep at it. Since you are pressed for time in the mornings on your TM runs, can you throw a few sprints in to increase the intensity which will compensate for a shorter run. Glad you got outside for a run this weekend. And a trip to Hershey Park, how nice. If you get the chance to read a couple books from the library I highly recommend Sink Reflections by Marla Cilley and Sidetracked Home Executives by Pam Young and Peggy Jones. They are about keeping your house clean and they've really helped me to get a bit organized. I am by nature a pack rat, so my house is generally very cluttered, but reading these books has begun to cure my affliction. Worth the read.

Debra: Glad to see you back. It's not fair that just a little lack of focus can lead to weight gain. I really want to be at the point that I don't have to think about eating and still maintain my weight. I think I can do it, if I workout 3 hours a day, but can't quite find the time for that. I'm excited for you for your new routine once June starts. It should be a great opportunity for you to get the double dipping done.

Maria: Hope you are back on track. When is your trip? Where are you going?

Yesterday was a great day. I did a Jillian DVD, joined the gym and swam for 20 minutes and got out on my bike for 30 min. I ate healthy all day and was down on the scale at WW despite eating out for Mother's Day. Yea!! Since I'll be working in the house today I'm already feeling much more tempted to snack. I need to get upstairs and away from the kitchen. I have a hill workout on the schedule for today. I hope to take a break from cleaning around lunchtime for that. OK, back to it now. Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Hi everybody....
Cindy and Deb....the tea was lovely, the kids each get a letter of the alphabet and write about their mom and Tad's was "R" he loves me because I'm Really awesome! Then they wrote a paper about "I love my Mom because.... and then they took turns reading the book Love You Forever, always a tear-jerker. I have a couple pics (yep, my hair was like a drowned rat), I'll post later.
Maria...I hear ya on the Mother's Day eating, everything was so good. Yum!
Beth...I can't wait to get Jillian's book from the library. Glad to hear it's working for you....4 lbs in 2 days!:worship::banana: I know baseball season will be hard for you to squeeze it all in...be strong;).
Deb...I know, I know, food journaling is a good thing....it's just easier now not to. Nice job on your RftC. You'll get rid of the pesky pound in no time.

DS ankle is better. The coach had them run hills on Thursday, 2 days before a big meet,:confused3. That did not help and he had "tight" calves on Saturday, but still finished 2nd. Next weekend is Districts, so we'll see how it goes. He seems really strong right now. He went to prom on Saturday...I'll have to post a pic of that, too......he looked so handsome!

Hey Lean Meaners! Anybody out there???:confused3

Tracey: I always know that journaling is important.....but I just feel that I don't have the time to do it. I have so much going on, I have let that slip too. I am just trying to stay on point at every meal right now, and hope things work out!;)

Cindy: Yes, I used to do Fly Lady and things went so much better! I have gotten away from it......I really should try it again. The one thing I do keep up is the daily swirl (tolet cleaning). I have trained myself to get that done at least!

Debra: How the computer issues? Better I hope!

AFM: Well, the sacrifice of workout #2 yesterday was well worth it. My ds#2 look fantastic last night at his ball game. He was pitching, and struck out 7 players in 3 innings with no runs on him! He was hitting good too! :cloud9: I am glad I can see him do so well!

Maria: I took your advice.....for better or worse.....and did some intervels today. Nothing fancy, but picked up the speed 2 minutes at a time during commericals of Angel. Totally not in the mood to do so, but I mine as well get something out of it. It will be my only workout today since ds#1 has a baseball game tonight. I also need to fit in a vet visit for guinea pig #3 before the game. He is losing the hair on his nose, and needs a check up!

Have a good day Meaners!

Beth

Hi everyone! Just a quick drive by today - busy busy busy :(

Tracey - I love that book! I use to read it all the time with my mom when I was little. What does your DS do for tight calves? Mine have been tight since Sunday.

Cindy - How's your staycation going so far?

Beth - I ground up the flaxseed and it's sitting in a container but I keep forgetting to bring it to work. Good for you for resisting the sugar! I wish I had your willpower.

Debra - Glad to see you back! I loved the ratatouille and I wasn't really put off by the appearance. I think I just had an image of Remy's ratatouille in my mind :) Have you and DOOD made plans for a fall race?

Maria - I'm planning on watching Star Trek this weekend. I'm not really a Trekkie so I hope I'll be able to pick up on things quickly.

AFM - Got on the scale finally - after a month. Gained 3 pounds ... doh! I hadn't planned on posting but I figure it will make me accountable. So now I have to lose it. :) I'm looking forward to the Lost finale tonight - is anyone else watching?

Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning Lean Mean Brigade!

Last night I walked for 4 mi on the TM, I ran for 4 this am. I also had yoga yesterday, so plenty of movement. I'm counting my points and writing everything down, so eating is coming along nicely. I am on track to make my milestone, I just have to keep following the plan. I had a salmon burger last night. It was surprisingly good. More moist than turkey, but plenty filling and only 3 pts :thumbsup2

Vicky -- One of the nice things about this movie is that you don't have to be a fan to get it. Actually, there are some aspects you might enjoy more if you weren't a fan, as you won't find them disconcerting. Enjoy! :yay:

Beth -- Unfortunately my advice is just that -- better or worse and you never know which! :lmao: You certainly have a busy day. I hope Guinea Pig #3 is ok. I'm so glad my ds doesn't like baseball....I know it is great for them, but it's too many games! Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy the game tonight! My best tip from The Beck Diet Solution so far is to go ahead and sympathize with yourself when you can't eat something you want, but then to ask yourself which is more unfair, not eating what you want or not losing the weight you need to lose?

Tracey -- I can't wait to see all your photos! Are you ready for school to end? We're not done until June 17th. :rolleyes1

Cindy -- :woohoo: Fresh meat! I knew there was a thread I forgot to tell my lemonade story to -- Life gave me vacation lemons, and I made lemonade! I scheduled and booked our Universal vacation based on ds not starting school until after Labor Day, since in 7 years that has never happened. So of course we got a note saying school starts Sept. 1st :headache: I had this great deal at the Hard Rock Hotel, and we really didn't want to give it up, but missing the first 3 days of 6th grade does not seem like a good idea. We found out school ends June 17th, and camp doesn't start until June 29th, so I had seven days to fill. Since one reason we vacation at the end of summer is to cover the week when there's neither school nor camp, and since camp will now go until school starts...Yep, we can go when school gets out! So, I checked, and HRH did not have the super saver special deal available in a club queen room for our dates. The only onsite hotel with that deal for our dates is the Portofino Bay Hotel. It's a little more, but still less than the HRH without the super special deal. So, now I get to stay at the PBH! I am sure I will be happier with the Italian village theme than I would have been at the HRH, and we get a bigger room and gym, 3 pools, it just seems like a big winner to me. So, we leave June 18th for 3 days in Tampa w/my SIL and family (Busch Gardens! :bounce:), and then a week at Universal. We're going to the two Universal parks, Aquatica, and probably Wet 'n Wild. The fellas refuse to go to SeaWorld because they are tired of it :confused3. Since dh abhors all things Disney, I had to sneak in a little :tinker: We are leaving my SIL's on Father's Day, so we don't want to hang around too long and interfere with their family. We're going to need somewhere to go where we can hang out and be entertained for awhile before heading to PBH. DH would never go for a Disney park visit at ($225 to get in), but he did agree to go to DTD! I don't have a "touring plan", but you can bet I will be going to The World of Disney Store, Goofy's Candy Co., The Toy Store, The Christmas shop, Ghiradelli, and Earl of Sandwich (probably not in that order!). I know that's way more than you wanted to know, but I am excited! :woohoo: And I'm a Flybaby, too! :thumbsup2

Debra -- We are here and we are ready for you :grouphug:Whatever we can do to help, just let us know -- Pills and Pilates today? ;)

Ok, gotta do some of what I'm paid for...

Maria :upsidedow

:cool1:Woo Hoo!!!! Look at me, posting 2 days in a row:cool1:

Beth....I'm so happy you got to see your son's baseball game. Sounds like he had an awesome game! Good job with the intervals. I hope guinea pig #3 is okay.
Vicky....DS and I both love The Stick. It works great for sore calves. That, and DS has a live in masseuse with me.....I rubbed his calves for 45minutes on Saturday.....I only wish that someone was around to rub me;). No, I'm not a professional, I just play one at home.(as well as being a pretend professional cook, baker, and laundress....oh, and a maid).
Maria....I can't wait for school to be out. We stayed at PBH in 2007....it was awesome, so beautiful! The restaurants were really good too, with musicians in the Piazza at night. Lucky you!

Take care all, we have storms moving in again.

Beth: As always at my library, there's a wait for the good books. But I did request Master Your Metabolism. It sounds like the book covers a lot of ground that I've read in other books and am in general agreement with, even if I find implementation difficult. No hurt in reading it, though. I can't believe you don't like hummus. I love, love, love it! :goodvibes

Congratulations on doing the speed work, even though you didn't want to. Sometimes that kind of determination is the best thing. I know I tend to feel better about myself for doing something I don't want to. Like it was more of an accomplishment to be mindful about my workout, KWIM?

How is guinea pig #3?

Cindy: I bow to your cleaning. :worship: Not my strong suit. But I like the idea that it will simplify one's life. (Yours, as I'm not sure I can be convinced that my closets aren't simply black holes.) I'll have to look into the books you recommend, as well, and see if that inspires me. How was your hill workout, btw?

Tracey: Pictures, pictures, pictures! :yay: This from the person who doesn't take pictures, but ignore the hypocrisy. After all, my prom pictures wouldn't be attractive. :rotfl: And I can't imagine you looking like a drowned rat at all. Tell your son WTG with placing 2nd despite the tight calves. I hope he sweeps districts. (Actually, I don't. I hope he's challenged because that's probably better for his training at this point, but I hope he does very, very well.) Oh, and for someone who is a pretend professional, you sure do all those things well.

Vicky: I'm definitely watching Lost tonight--live and not DVR'ed, if you can believe it! (I'm not used to commercials anymore, but am too excited to wait.) Like Maria, I think you will enjoy Star Trek. New stories for a new, not-necessarily Trekky/Trekker audience. We've narrowed down the race possibilities to Toronto and Baltimore. DOOD wants to do Baltimore and PR it, I want to do Toronto and argue he can PR its flat course easier than Baltimore. He's looking into airfare and accommodations, checking for a conference in either place, and we'll let the budget decide. He's got a week. Not that I've given him a deadline or anything. :lmao: I'll bet you there's a fair amount of muscle gain in those three pounds of yours, but we'll hold you accountable to the scale if you'd like. :thumbsup2

Eat your flaxseed! Try it, Mikey, you'll like it!

Maria: Yay for all that activity and for logging everything! Those are two areas I need to get back on the wagon with, esp. the latter. The more I hear about your upcoming trip, the more I want to go! You've done such great work planning it, and I think it will just encourage you to keep to your lean meaner goals, too.

As for me: I've started to read the Beck book, and think I'm going to try it for a while. I haven't finished reading it, of course, but the suggestions in the first couple of weeks remind me of things I am doing, of things I know I should do, or sound worthwhile. I'm a little troubled by its insistence that thin people don't think the same way as the rest of us--as it seems everyone I know has those thoughts about food--and its use of the word diet. But I look at those things as marketing language and I won't throw out the baby with the bathwater. So looks like I'm on day one tonight and have homework. So long as it doesn't interfere with my television, I should be fine.

But yes, you can help me be accountable. I fell off the Pilates wagon, as I don't like to do my WOs while DOOD is around. And he's always around these days. So I need to get over that or kick him out. The former is more reasonable, I think. Especially since he's been insisting we go to the gym more often now that he's home.

Good morning everyone! I stayed up "late" to finish watching Lost. I managed to snag a lift into work so I was able to catch a quick snooze in the car.

Maria - A salmon burger sounds yummy! I was in the supermarket yesterday and noticed they had salmon sausage. Not sure what that's like. Got a yoga question for you - do you really have to do yoga on an empty stomach? I read somewhere that you should wait 3 hours after eating or drinking before doing yoga.

Tracey - Yes I have The Stick but like you said a professional is always better :) Now if only I could win the lottery... Your upcoming trip sounds like fun! I'm glad you'll still be able to get a little bit of Disney in. Love Goofy's Candy Company - and the make your own treats section.

Beth - I'll have to check out the metabolism book the next time I'm at the library. When you mentioned the collusion between the companies, it reminded me of the movie Thank-You for Not Smoking. Maybe it wasn't too far off from ...

Debra - My head tells me the gain is from muscle but when I look down at my stomach, it's another story  I will probably go back on my sugar free diet for a couple of weeks once I'm done with the half at the end of the month. Hope you're able to come to Toronto in the Fall :) Remember your pills and pilates today!

AFM - The season finale of Lost was awesome! I would have stayed up and watched it again but I wouldn't have made it into work otherwise. DF and I kept going back during commercials to rewatch scenes! I think I read somewhere that the final season won't begin until 2010...

Went running on the track last night and took DF with me. He usually walks but managed to do walk/run intervals. Hoping to get back out tonight but it's pretty rainy so we'll see.

Have a great day everyone!

Hopefully, I did this right.....

DS9 at the Mother's Day Tea
My oldest and youngest doing their "stud 007 pose"
DS and me (drowned rat) at the Mother's Day Tea (notice the rain stopped when we got inside)
DS his prom date

My son and his friend got each other matching "love to run" necklaces instead of flowers for prom. At first, I thought it was a little unusual, but the more I think about it.....I love the idea (although, I'll admit that I LOVE flowers). They are really cool and are designed by Steve Prefontaine's sister. They are a track with the words LOVE TO RUN engraved on the bottom.

Good Afternoon, Meaners!

Whew! After a busy morning with too many meetings, I'm going to take a lunch break and chat. :surfweb:

Still recovering after the "Lost" finale last night -- I think I'm the one who's lost now! :rotfl: Anyway, I still got up and on the TM, and I'm so glad I did. I had a fabulous workout. Everything was just humming along incredibly great, especially considering I had 5.5 hrs of sleep. It's going to be a long night again for the "Grey's" finale tonight. But, tomorrow is my rest day so I'll get to sleep in.

I lost a solid 10 lbs during the DIS BL7 challenge which began before the Half in January. That was alot less than I wanted to lose -- I had way too many weeks when I gained. Most of it has been since I started my new workout schedule and diet awareness at the end of April. I'm hoping to lose another 10before we leave for our trip on June 18th. I know that is very ambitious (considering my overall turtle weight loss pace), but why not shoot for the stars? :goodvibes

Tracey -- What a nice-looking family you have! And you do not look like a drowned rat! The necklaces will last much longer than the flowers would have. I still have the necklace my boyfriend gave me for my senior prom, engraved with the date. He is long gone, but I still like the locket.

Vicky -- I don't know if you have to do yoga on an empty stomach, but I do. We do so many bends and twists and things, I think it would be really uncomfortable if you had just eaten. As I understand it, the last season of "Lost" will begin in January 2010.

Debra -- I was freaking out just this morning about eating well on our trip. We're staying club level (1st time!), and I know I'm going to have to overcome my natural tendency to "get my money's worth" and eat everything in sight! :rolleyes1 We really got it more for convenience with ds and the free usage of the gym. Anyway, I don't want to make huge progress just to watch it slip away. I'm going to have to think of a word to say to myself when I'm tempted to eat something that is way off my plan. Any suggestions? :confused3 In my little world, I think about food completely differently than my thin dh. He doesn't think about food at all -- he doesn't wake up hungry, he often doesn't eat lunch, it just doesn't occur to him because he is not hungry. He typically doesn't eat until 10 or 11 at night, and that might be his only meal all day (No, I don't think this is healthy, and believe me I've told him). That is not an option for me. I am hungry when I wake up, I'm hungry 4-5 hours later, and I'm hungry again in 4-5 hours. And not a little hunger I can ignore, I need to eat regular meals or I get shaky and cranky. It's not pretty :scared:

Does anyone watch "18 and Counting"? It's about the Duggar family in Arkansas, which has 18 kids. The oldest (21) recently got married, and his wife was upset because 4 months into the marriage she wasn't pregnant yet. :scared1: Luckily, apparently they pressed forth in the face of this adversity and now she's expecting. ;) I was still trying to write Thank yous and adjust to being a wife (not a bride) 4 months in, I can't imagine being coherent enough to be upset I wasn't pregnant.

Speaking of being coherent, I'd better break out the hummus and veggies. I found these to go containers of Sabra Hummus that are just the perfect size for lunch. It's best that it's already portioned so I don't have to think about it, 'cause it's yummy! :cutie:

Everyone have an awesome, losing day!

Maria :upsidedow
