Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Good morning Leaner Meaners!

Hoping your Saturday is shaping up to be a good one.

Got in a couple of runs this week. 3 on Tuesday and stadium runs on Wednesday.

Tracey – WTG with the 5 miler! Hope your walk went well.

Wendy – I’ve been on that plan myself! Normally, I just settle for the Go to the doctor - get my butt chewed-plan. ;) :lmao:

Beth – WTG with the 5 miler and the weight loss.
:thumbsup2

Everyone – Keep up the great work! :thumbsup2

:)

Hey Lean Mean Brigade!

Thank you to everyone for the encouragement. I slept 11.5 hours last night, and it made a world of difference. I am prioritizing an early bedtime this week (obviously starting tomorrow night!). I also did 5 mi on the TM today, and it felt good to move. I'm reworking my schedule to be a bit less agressive, so I can ease into it a bit more. When I try to do to much to soon I end up doing nothing and feeling like a failure, so no more of that.

Vic -- I am in awe of your stadium runs. I think of Desmond running up stairs when I think of you. But then, I am just a big Lostie! :thumbsup2

Beth -- Yay! for a fun, happy 5! I am all about the fun and happy now! :thumbsup2

Wendy -- Fish and veggies are an awesome plan! I am also impressed you are seeing your doctor. That's one of those things I just haven't made myself do in what I'm sure is far too long...:guilty:

Tracey -- I am super proud of you for no sweets! That takes real dedication! :flower3:

Debra -- I am apparently not smarter than a 5th grader. My ds got the Disney version of the game for Christmas. Let's just say there were some questions I found to be, well, questionable! It's also not fun to play with a 5th grader, because they are studying that exact material in school. They know all the answers! :rotfl:

Cindy -- Thanks for cheering me with Truck Day! :wave2:

Julie -- It wouldn't be so bad if I were only doing 5th grade work -- ds's teacher decided they could all move along to some 6th grade stuff. The vocab is killing me -- not because I don't know ostentatious or sentient, but because I'm really tired of trying to help ds use these words in sentences! His answer is "The girl was ostentatious", "The boy was sentient". I think I've finally gotten through to ds that I'm not going to accept that for his homework...pirate:

Amyk -- Glad dd is keeping you busy, and you are enjoying your time with her! :goodvibes

Jeff -- I'm glad you aren't letting this snowy winter keep you inside. I don't know how you do it, running among the flowers and lush green landscape...it's a tough job, but I know you are up to it! :rotfl2:

Mike -- How are you feeling? :hyper:

Chris -- Have you become one with the Nascar this weekend? :drive:

Vicky -- Great job on the weight loss! You have good advice. Today I made myself workout by getting on the TM when dh went to the gym. I need to get my butt back up at 5:30, so I can be working out with Julie! :bitelip:

Quick! Someone getting Jeanne a drink! You don't want to make her angry...I have a feeling we wouldn't like it if she were angry... :scared: :lmao:

Howdy to anyone I missed!

It's off to slumber land for me...

Maria :upsidedow

Okay, this is a little tangential, but I have to say...THANK GOD I have the Lean Meaners in my life. I know that whenever I come to this thread, I will come away with a smile and a laugh-out-loud moment. How did so many of you get to be so witty??

Chris: I think I missed your post last time around? Sorry about the no-Disneyland--that's a bummer, as it's a great place. But a 10 year anniversary is a real milestone, and congrats on that!

Beth: The one thing I remember doing aerobics in the 80s--yes, the Jane Fonda craze--is rolling my eyes (and swearing under my breath) at the instructor. Sometimes I think that's their intention, as some sort of motivational tool. You statement about learning something about ourselves each time we're on the wagon is so true...that's a positive I forget to consider. :thumbsup2 Yay for a happy, fun 5 miler! (And at least your stray 2 pounds went away...my strays always want to adopt me for long period of time....)

Amy: I hope you know how much we admire you for taking the "on the (booze) wagon" challenge." I suppose this means you don't want to hear about DOOD's latest beer tastings? Or do you want to live vicariously? Maybe you could make a list of what beer your DH should hand you at the end of the 1/2?

Jeff: That Swamp Romp actually sounds like a lot of fun (minus the "other stuff"). Will you really be carrying a camera along? As for your annual WDW marathon weekend video, Mahalo for creating it. DOOD caught me sniffling to it, so I guess I found it touching. ;) I need another Disney weekend with my WISHer friends.

Tracy: Snarly and snarky. Love it! Just like Mickey and Minnie, Heckle and Jeckle, spy vs. spy. You know, it's odd to hear me say this, but I think homemade granola trumps most cookies. Don't know why, but that's how I feel these days. Texture, maybe? It sounds as if your running and shredding have been consistently awesome! How was the lake??

Wendy: I think I need to schedule regular dr.'s appointments so that I'm good all the time. It's kind of like the regular houseguest strategy for keeping the apt. tidy (which works for me). How was the treadmill?

Vic: Sounds like you're nicely consistent post-marathon. I went to the movies last night and saw an Earnhardt/Kid Rock/National Guard video--have you seen it? Pretty eye-catching.

Maria: It's great to hear that you're feeling better, and amazing what the correct amount of sleep (and the right sleep pattern) can do for you, isn't it? And I'm thinking you're right to ease up on your schedule. It can be so overwhelming otherwise. Would you accept "Debra is ostentatious because she is not truly sentient" as a sentence?

As for me: I'm still spotty on the pills and the DVD WOs, although I'm pleased to say I've been better with both and have been working out every day. It's been easier to be motivated the last couple of days, as the weather here has been soooooo nice. Sometimes I forget how much I miss the sunlight in the winter. DOOD and I got to spend a lot of time outdoors yesterday and today, and I'm feeling much better. The weather is supposed to hold for the next few days, so cross your fingers that this is just the break from my doldrums that I need to kick my sweet patootie into a higher gear. :yay:

So, Debra thinks we are whitty! Thank you Debra!

Debra: It sounds like a good week for you! I strive for consistency daily, but it doesn't always happen. I am glad for Nancy pushing me with the Pump class, and it's so much more fun with her in the class! I always have some one to roll my eyes to! It lightens my mood. I love the image of you with the leg warmers doing the 80's aerobics with Jane Fonda! That will certainly help come Tuesday's Pump class! :thumbsup2

I got to run 7.5 miles today, outside, with short sleeves on! Can't beat that! I can celebrate! I will have to miss my Pilates class tomorrow (dreaded dentist appointment), so I did my Bender ball 40 min Pilates DVD today! So, if you are counting, that is 2 hours of exercise for me today!

I ate well today, but I will have to confess to yesterday's eating. We went to Philly for the car show, and dinner was a Pat's cheese steak! Totally off the wagon, but oh, so good! I didn't eat bad before or after that, so that is as good as it could get!

Beth

Hey Leaner Meaners,

Got in 9 miles yesterday outside. I was so excited. Of course I had to run on the streets most of the time because the sidewalks still had snow and ice on them, but it was nice out in comparison that is.

Looking at renting points for my Anniversary trip in October. Hoping it works out.

Debra - It sure is and I told her we'd stay somewhere nice. If the points work out I'll be set.

Maria - Yes I was glued to the TV last night. Loved the race just not the results. Oh well it was all about money right!

Everyone else - Hello. Hope you all had a great weekend!

Quick run by.

I cross trained today by going night reef walking for 3 hours in the Pacific Ocean. Marine Biology at it's finest. Saw lots of tropical fish, sea cucumbers, Spanish Dancer, sea slugs, hermit crabs, moray eel, etc.

We go to catch night tako (octopus) to use for bait when we go fishing during the summer. Usually we catch a handful or two, but alas, tonight I was the only one to catch one. This is about a 2-2 1/2 lb. tako. Note the one gallon ziplock bag it is sitting on.

Wow, Jeff, you definitely have the coolest photos!

Debra, thanks for asking... Saturday on the treadmill was ok -- just a 5K, and still an Achilles-oucher. Obviously rest isn't the answer (but I sorta knew that already). Hey, pilates and pills, right?!?!?!? And I'm glad to have you and the other Leaner Meaners in my life too! :grouphug:

Maria and Big Vic, my doctor's appt is strictly because I'm already on high blood pressure meds. It's (literally) do or die. I'm just determined not to up the dosage or add diabetes meds to them. Even if it means getting really sick of tuna. :rotfl:

Tracey, DD's project has several critical dates this month. (And Tracey, glad my teens are not the only ornery ones. I know now what they mean about parents asking their teens "Who are you and what have you done with the sweet kid that used to live here???") Anyone besides me get the feeling that these projects always turn out to be as much/more work for the parents as the kids??? :confused3 Not to stray too far off topic here, but her project involves aquariums and breeding tropical fish, and there is a lot of prep work that needs to be done before the local aquarium club's annual auction (the best chance to get fish at less-than-pet-store prices) in approximately 3 weeks. Add to that that DH has an outpatient procedure coming up today, then recovery -- very much a LTO kind of week.

Chris! Glad you're able to enjoy some warmer weather.

Very early, but I gotta go get started with my day. I apologize to all those I didn't call by name -- I still love you! :wave2:

Good luck to all the Leaner Meaners!!!

/
Wendy -- Say it isn't so! I don't think I can make it through high school again if I have to do the projects! 5th Grade is killing me! The projects are definitely more work for the parents than the kids. I think it's some kind of sick punishment -- and I don't remember my parents ever doing all these projects with me! I think I barely had homework in elementary school, although I remember some in 4th-6h grade, but nothing like what ds has! :sad2:

Jeff -- You totally win for most unusual photos! :thumbsup2

Debra -- No, I would not accept your sentence -- 'cause I know it's not true! :goodvibes

Beth -- I've never been to Philly, so never had a real cheesesteak. That sounds yummy...:rolleyes1

Chris -- I hope your ice and snow are melting. We are getting there, slowly...:)

Shoutouts to everyone else, I gotta get the family moving! I did 2.5 mi on the TM this morning, and I'll have yoga at noon. Is it bad if I spend the chivasa (sp?) thinking about eating my lunch? :flower3:

Everyone have a great day. I'm looking forward to the Biggest Loser tonight --it's sugar free jello dessert night for me! :yay:

Maria :upsidedow

Hey Everyone!

Got in 4 miles last night outside and yes the snow is mostly gone. What was great about it was my DD(9) went out with me on her bike and we had a nice chat. I hope she does that in the future. She was beat by the time we got home, but we'll have to get her in better shape. :lmao:

Keep it up Meaners! :thumbsup2

Morning everyone! Just a quick drive by today... Worked out last night with my PT. I'm going to add a few more training sessions and see how much weight I can lose in a month. Temperatures are warming up in Toronto and yet I still found the only piece of ice on my street and slipped! Managed not to land on my left knee but still bumped my chin! Then I missed my bus which was early this morning! Guess I'd better go and get that lottery ticket!

Jeff - Since you end up using the octopus for bait ... What do you use as bait to catch it?

Hey guys!

Beth....:worship: 2 hours of workout time!:worship: I love the fact that we can all relate to the leg warmers fad.:rotfl2:
Vic... I read something this weekend about stair-work and how good it is...I immediately thought of you, now I just need to remember where I read it.:confused3
Maria....If you slept for 11.5 hours, you definitely needed it. You're beginning to sound more like yourself:goodvibes . I knew the doldrums couldn't keep you down for long.
Deb....we've had nicer weather here, too...it makes for much nicer walks and runs and it's good to get outside. The lake was gorgeous, although parts of it were iced over which is really unusual. Luckily, the outlet mall is really close by and the shopping was really good:thumbsup2 . So, you think we're witty, huh?
Chris....congrats on getting those 9 miles in outside. I hope you get the dream room you're looking for to take your DW on an anniversary trip. Let us know...the girls around here like all that "romancey" stuff. We just spent our "marathon, b'day, anniversary" trip at the Wilderness Lodge and it was dreamy.:cloud9:
Jeff.....Ewwwwwww!
Wendy....I hear ya on the kids projects. We just finished another of DS10 scrapbook book reports! There's no way he could do it on his own! Your DD project sounds intense, but it sounds like fun, too. Sending :pixiedust: and prayers for DH (and for his caregiver-because we all know who that is;) )
Everybody else... hey there!

I spent the weekend at the lake cutting recipes out of old magazines, shopping, and being a couch potato. It was wonderful! Monday, I got my 5 miles in and today it's Shred and an easy walk with DS and the jogging stroller-before the rain comes in. Gotta go, have a good one and stay strong.

Jeff - Since you end up using the octopus for bait ... What do you use as bait to catch it?

Vicky, are you following in the footsteps of Maria? :confused3 (Sorry Maria  ).

FYI - I take a three prong spear to catch the tako. We walk in about knee deep water, and shine our dive lights to the ocean floor.

We either see their eyes reflecting back, because they camoflauge themselves to the ground around them. Or, if you come close to them, you see them "ink" the water, and go shooting off in another direction. After a short chase, they get into a defensive position all balled up. Then you just spear them, or scoop them up with a net.

We do freeze them, and then when we camp on the north shore during summer, we use the tako for bait, to catch various types of fish.

Pills/Pilates/Yoga Update: Did Pilates today. Still haven't taken my pills. DOH! But there's still time, so I'll get it in. Thanks!

Beth: Yes, yes, I wore leg warmers and had a leotard that I wore with with tights. Big hair, too. I'll never get over the trauma. And did I mention the sweatshirt that oh-so-casually slid off one shoulder. Oh, I was one red-hot mess. :rolleyes1

Big congrats to you for running in short sleeves. Nothing better than that, especially in February, is there? And you're doing 2 hours of exercise at a time. I'm trying to get back up to that. As for the Philly cheese steak, I'm not sure you can visit Philly without having one. They might not let you leave town.....

Chris: Woo hoo for your 9 miles. I'll send warm breaths your way in hopes of melting the snow and ice. So, you're thinking of DVC points for your anniversary? That would be sweet. Speaking of sweet, it was sweet that DD biked while you ran. That's the kind of natural father-daughter time that leads to some quality insights into each other, I think.

Aloha Jeff: My first thought with tako, in Detroit we called them octopi, is always that the poor creatures get thrown on the ice for Red Wings games. I always feel a little nauseated at the odd tradition. I think your use of them of bait is better, because at least it's part of that "circle of life" thing.

Wendy: What do you to to relieve your Achilles? Mine's been acting up a bit, and I'm not sure what I should do. Your DD's project--or should I say you and your DD's project--sounds fascinating. Definitely a lot of work, though. How'd she choose it? And PD for DH's outpatient procedure. You've got a lot on your (low-fat) plate these days.

Maria: It really sounds like you're liking the yoga. I find it hard to get into the right mindset these days, but I really believe yoga is a great thing for us as runners, woggers, and walkers. I've been avoiding BL this season for some reason. Just not feeling it, I guess. I'd like more, I don't know, reality to my reality TV. Not so much fabricated drama, competitions, and product placement.

Vicky: I'm so sorry to hear about your slippage. You sound like me--I'll always find the one dangerous spot. Hope your chin isn't bruised, although you and Maria now have an accident in common. How many training sessions are you adding, btw?

Tracy: I so think all of you are witty. I'm constantly telling DOOD things you all say--even out of context it's funny and insightful. Your lake-house weekend sounds delightful, even with the outlet shopping. What does one do in "Shred," if you don't mind a brief overview?

As for me: Munching on carrots I as type. Woo hoo. I'd rather have popcorn. I also went out for my run today, but only completed about 75% of it. I'm disappointed because it was good weather for running: warm, overcast, with a slight drizzle (not enough to soak my shoes). But I just wasn't feeling the hills--I tried a new, steeper route today and it was more than I could handle. That's part of the challenge of running in Pgh. It's all hills. Good workouts, but when you want an easier run (or speed work) you really have to plan ahead. I'll try to hit the TM tomorrow, I think, and do a brief run. Just for the mental aspect.

Its been a while since i was on this thread...WTO, LTO, and busy with training.

I'll make the effort to start catching up with my lean mean friends if you'll have me back...missed you folks.

anyway, as the post title says, I had arthroscopic knee surgery today. The surgeon found:

1) Torn Medial Meniscus

2) Condromalcia, aka runner's knee.

http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/patelladisorders/a/chondromalacia.htm?rd=1

3) Femoral Cartilage messed up, he smoothed it out.

Likely 2-3 weeks recovery, no swimming until stitches are out, hopefully they'll be out next week.

Poop.

At least I wasn't imagining it.

I put this in the post in Supergoofs, this isn't my first rodeo for knee surgery, so I don't know if knowing what to expect is worse or not. Tomorrow will be ok, and Thursday will just suck.

I'll keep you posted.

Mike

Mike,

I'm glad you're back with us! We've missed you. Ugh for the knee. I didn't even consider the idea you might not be able to tread water for a while. I know this isn't your first rodeo, but I'll remain optimistic that this time around is less intense than last time. I take it you have painkilers? (Good drugs--yes!)

Mike...we're glad you're back and that, at least, the surgery is over. Take care of yourself.
Deb.....
Oh, I was one red-hot mess.
Thanks for making me laugh so hard that I almost woke up my kids. Isn't it amazing that we thought we looked soooooooo good(well we did)! I had one of those leotards that looked like the bottom of a leotard and the top was suspender straps and I wore a 1/2 top under that. NICE! There's an article in this month's Fitness Magazine that lists Jane Fonda as an Icon of the 80's and that she had a 24 inch waist. "Shred" has become my shortened term for Jillian Michael's 30 day Shred DVD.

It's a rainy gloomy day here! I walked 3.65 miles yesterday and did the Jillian DVD. The rain is making me feel lazy today.....send motivation my way:) .

That's so funny! Yes, I tell my DDs that I'll miss them most (when they are gone to college) when I don't have them to help with their little brother's math homework! :)

Numbers are not my friends!

I don't know what I'll do if/when DD isn't at home to help her brothers with homework.

Maybe your DS can email his math questions to his sisters once they're away at school? That would save you from having to try to befriend numbers. :)

Hello Lean Meaners!

Amy - How is the no booze thing going? I don't think I could give up my Thursday night Coronas for anything. You rock! :cool1:

Vicky - Congrats on the 1.1 lbs! :thumbsup2 Sorry about your fall. How is your chin?

Debra - 75% is better than 0, right? I have a few hills on my route, but nothing like hilly Pittsburgh, I imagine. Good for you with the snack of carrots. Although I wouldn't have thought that popcorn would have been a bad choice. To me, popcorn is health food. I mean, corn is a veggie, right? :rotfl: Did you take your pills and do your pilates?

Tracey - It sounds like you had a great weekend at the lake. Sometimes you just need those relaxing breaks.

Maria - I know my DS would do the same thing that your DS did with "The boy was sentient." :lmao: 6th grade work in 5th grade - yikes! I'm doomed. DD9 (4th grade) had "crepuscular" as a vocab word last week. Honestly, I didn't know what it meant. I was almost ready to wash her mouth out with soap until I looked it up. ;) :rotfl2:

Beth - Running in short sleeves - I'm so jealous!

Wendy - Your DD's project sounds very involved. This year will be DD's first year doing a science project. I'm already scared. :scared1: Science was never my thing.

Jeff - Great pic, as usual. :thumbsup2

Mike - i hope you have a quick recovery! :goodvibes

As for me, the ice has melted! I've been able to run 3 times this week. The only problem I'm having is with my motivation to run more than 3 miles. I have this quick little route and it's all I want to do right now. I am planning to do a half marathon in May, so I'm hoping that training for the race will kick my butt into gear. I too, remember the days of leg-warmers, half shirts, and one-shouldered sweatshirts. I'm definitely guilty of wearing all of those things. I also had huge, gravity-defying hair. I'm short (5'3"), but I was probably 5'7" with my bangs hairsprayed straight up. Now I cringe when I look at old pictures from those days. I can't believe I ever thought my big hair looked good. :confused3

Hey Meaners! It's hump day! For me it's like Friday though, since I work part-time! :cool1:

Julie: Hey, lay off the big hair!!! I LOVED mine (and kept the hairspray in my locker, and my comb in my back pocket!) No kidding, what did we think? How awful!

Debra: I bet they were rainbow leg warmers, weren't they? Snazzy! Sorry to hear that the hills got you! I hate hills.....mostly the coming down the hills actually!

Mike: I hope you are on your road to recovery......sorry to hear about the knee. Maybe now it will be much better!

AFM: I am happy to report good workouts and good eating.....but the stupid scale hasn't moved a inch since Sunday. Honestly, I am doing everything I can ...... and still no movement of scale. Frustrating. I did do pump with our friend Nancy...... what a killer class. Didn't think I was going to make the whole hour.....
