Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

I'm going to post this morning to bump this thread up. Hope everyone is doing well. I am losing the battle with the Halloween candy. I waited until this week to buy it knowing I'd eat it if I bought it earlier. I'm worried now I'll have to go out and buy more before Friday. I knew I should have stuck to the stuff I didn't like.(read as: anything not chocolate)

Beth: Good job staying 8 lbs down.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Good morning, friends. I checked in on all of you yesterday, but was lazy and didn't post.
Maria....Sounds like you had a great trip! I love DS teacher, but these book reports are driving me crazy. This scrapbook one had 16, yes 16, components! He has 5 more of these to do this year.:scared1: It is sitting here on the corner ready to turn in, if I can figure out how to post it, I will.
Look at you, Yoga and running in the same day. You go girl! Seriously, does your DH really not go into the parks?
Jeff....30k! Wow! And in the rain! You totally rock! So, do you keep your training up year round that you can run a 1/2 marathon anytime?
Cindy....Hyannis will be your BQ....I can feel it! And...you know this....but, don't ever give up on your dreams, it's within your reach and you know it.:woohoo: :yay: :woohoo:
Beth...The Mt. Everest book sounds good, what's the title. One of my girls at Girls On the Run told me yesterday that I really do need to read The Lightning Thief. When I find out what kind of book he has to read for the next report, I'm gonna check in with you and Maria to see what your kiddos are reading. It's comforting to know that you got through a 1/2 with training up to 8 miles. I'm struggling with doing a R/W combo or running the whole thing. I'm thinking now that I'm just gonna wait and see what I've got in me and do what feels right. I'm training on a really hilly route right now and those walk breaks feel good!:)
Lisa...Are you back yet from you birthday in WDW? :happyb'day:
Amy, Stacie, Wendy, Jeanne, Howard, Mike, Vic, Julie, Deb, Kira, and all our other friends who I'm sorry I missed.....We miss you, check in!
**This is a busy week like always. DS15 won his district meet and the team placed in the top 4, so it's sectionals for the boys this weekend!:yay: :woohoo: :yay: We're having a PR Pancake party here on Friday, to get revved up for Saturday. Then, of course with Halloween, I've finished getting costumes ready, things ready for the parties, and preparing some food ahead of time to freeze for Friday evening for anyone who stops by. Which is why I cheated yesterday and ate 2 (awww, they were little;) ) brownies...with chocolate fudge frosting and Halloween sprinkles. I'll be feeling that sugar in my 4 miles today. Stay strong all and try to avoid the Halloween candy. In St. Louis, the kids who come to the door tell jokes. I hear that that's just a St. Lou thing. Anyone have any good jokes out there?

Hi Lean Meaners!

Busy day today, but I haven't stopped by in a while, so I wanted to say hi.

Cindy
- I lost the battle with the Halloween candy too, so you're not alone. I (unsuccessfully) tried to rationalize eating it. I had eaten an onion bagel and didn't want onion breath. So, I had two options: going ALL THE WAY upstairs to brush my teeth, or opening the Junior Mints. Guess what I did...:sad2:

Tracey - I've never heard of kids telling jokes when they come to the door. That's really cute.

I noticed a few of you have mentioned that your 5th graders are reading The Lightning Thief. I've never heard of this book, but I'm always on the lookout for new kids books. Do you think this book would be good for DD9? She's an avid reader.

I've been good at getting my miles in, but I feel like I'm running slower than ever. I'm not sure why. I'm going to try to push myself during my 4 miler tomorrow and see what happens. I also can't seem to find time to get some yoga in to my day. I'm going to try to see if I can do it when DS naps, but it's tough. That 2 hours is my time to clean, do laundry, do any dinner prep I can, etc. I wish I could add a couple of extra hours to my day.

Have a great week, everyone! I'm going to try to pop in more often. :goodvibes

Good Morning, Lean Mean Team!

I did my 3 mi again this morning -- that's 3 days in a row, a definite record for me! I'm scheduled to rest tomorrow, and I feel like I've earned it. :goodvibes

My dh will very grudgingly go into the Parks, but it's not pretty. On our last family trip, he went to Typhoon Lagoon and that was it. DS and I did the Pirate and Princess Party, MK, and Epcot by ourselves. We had a great time, but it felt a little odd. DH does love Universal, and leads the way into those parks. He just does not like Disney. :confused3 Anyway, our deal is if I stick to my training and actually lose some weight, he will spend one day in a Park with me without complaint. Keep in mind he refuses to enter MK and HS under any circumstances, and you'll see my options are limited. Last year we did one day at Epcot, and he was a pretty good sport. I think he just liked Test Track :cutie:

I guess I need to get a copy of The Lightning Thief!I don't want ds to miss out.

Julie -- When you figure out how to add those extra hours, please let me know. ;) I went to bed before 10 last night, just so I could drag myself out of bed this morning. These early workouts are good, but I still seem to need sleep...

Tracey -- I grew up in St. Louis County, and no one I knew was telling jokes -- perhaps that's a more recent development. We were just greedily asking for candy, no time to be entertaining! :rotfl: Congrats on DS's accomplishments, he's keeping you busy with all those wins! I can't imagine a 16 part book report...but we do have the math project from you know where. The kids have $100, and they have to feed a family of 4 for a week. They are not allowed to get fast food. They have to figure out how many servings you get out of everything they buy, to make sure their budget stretches to cover everything they need. This is way too much effort for me, I don't do that with my own family! :sad2: I know it's a great lesson in both fractions and how much things cost, but dh isn't about to help on this one, so I'm being reluctantly pulled into the black hole that is 5th grade math. :teacher:

Cindy -- I have the candy in cupboards in my basement, it will not come out until Friday. That is the only way I have any control. Nov. 1st is All Saints Day, so we can be virtuous and throw out any candy we have left that isn't meant for other people. If you actually find the will power to do that, let me know. It sounds good, but I don't think it will actually happen.

A big Howdy to everyone else! Tell us your Halloween strategies!

Maria :grouphug:

Wow, I guess I am really lucky.......I don't buy Halloween candy. We go trick or treating with my dsil and her girls every year. So......I am not home to pass out candy! I don't know if I had it in the house, that I could stay away from it (actually I know that I couldn't).

My ds#1 had to get blood work today.......dh took him. I sort of glad that he did. DS#1 has never had a needle except for immunizations when he was younger. DH just called and said that the big teddy bear was really white and shaky, but didn't pass out! Yeah! I never had a needle phobia, but I guess I am just used to them!

Julie: I believe the Lightning Thief is pretty popular with the younger set. My oldest LOVED the series, but my 10 year old hasn't read them yet. Might be a good choice for your dd. I have decided that I am just consintrating in getting my miles in and losing weight......I will work on speed later......I too have been getting slower and slower, but in turn have been enjoying my runs more lately. I think it's a good trade off for me right now.

Tracey: I think I am getting a glimpse of my future......my ds#2 will be my trial the next 15 years......sigh.....:sad2: I have always called him my 'high maintance' child, and he is living up to the name. Every teacher he has had up till now has told me how 'smart' he is.......well, being 'smart' isn't helping him to be motivated to get any knowledge out of school. He is 'smart' enough to get by with very little effort......and when effort is required, he just isn't in the "mood".......what do you do with that???????? :confused3 He is driving me crazy. At least we don't have a 16 PAGE report due!!!! I think I would go crazy with that!!!!!! :scared1:

Well, I got 4 miles in yesterday at the gym since we had terrible wind/rain storm yesterday.....Wish I could say it was a good 4 miles.......pretty much putting my time in watching the clock.......hate that!

Have a good day!

Beth

Halloween candy always shows up in my office after Halloween. I think because people buy the stuff that's on sale. It's tough to resist when people just have them sitting out in bowls on their desk. At home, we usually buy those little coupon books from McDonald's. I know it's not much better for the kids but we do it so we don't have leftover candy sitting around.

Going to work on my stretches tonight and hopefully fix my strained piriformis.

Have a great day everyone!!

Jeff So, do you keep your training up year round that you can run a 1/2 marathon anytime?

I pretty much run year round due to our year round nice weather. 8-10 miles on Tues & Thurs. Sunday's are my long runs. I start at 8 miles, and max out at 22 before tapering for the Honolulu Marathon every December.

Someone previously asked me about tapering for a half, and I said, who tapers for a half? :lmao: I guess 13 miles has become just a jog for me, unless I'm racing for a sub 2 hour time.

My running partner Mushu, heck, she barely trains for the Disneyland Half. She says, it's only 13 miles. :rotfl2:

I did 9 miles yesterday, and our pace was about 8:45, only because I had a charlie horse knot in my calf the last mile and a half. If not, my average pace is about 8:30 per mile for this distance.

Quick fly by all about me.

After 3 weeks of rest, the knee is still ridiculously painful.

MRI scheduled for Friday morning...I'll keep you posted.

I haven't been motivated to do ANYTHING,but i have lifted and swam a couple of times each week...trying to get up enough gumption to go to the pool tonight, instead of a tumbler of Scotch and staring into the fire....

Mike

Good Morning Everyone,

Mike: Sorry to hear about the knee. Good luck with the MRI tomorrow. Hope you made it to the pool last night. If not the drink while staring into the fire sounds so relaxing.

Jeff: Sorry to hear about the Charlie Horse. Hope it won't be a continual problem. Good job on your run.

Vicky: Hope the stretches helped.

Beth: Good job getting your inside workout done.

Maria: Good job on your 3 days in a row streak. Enjoy that rest day.

Julie: I'm sure the Junior Mints did the trick. Very clever of you. Do you do any speed work or tempo running? That will be the quickest way for you to increase your speed. In your 4 miler today you could run the first and last mile at a very comfortable pace and run the two middle miles 30-60 seconds/mile faster than that. Or you can do speedwork on the Treadmill. As much as I don't like the TM, it's great for doing speed work. You can really control how fast you are going. Good luck.

Tracey: Congrats to DS for winning the district. He must be so proud. (and you too.) Good luck getting all the Halloween things completed. Fortunately for me there was a party last weekend so I had to have 2 out of 3 costumes ready for last weekend. Last week was crazy, but now this week I just had to finish one costume and make a batch of pumpkin cutouts for a party. I love the tradition of joke telling. How fun that must be. I'm completely blanking on any jokes, but I'll keep thinking about it.

I've been mildly better with the Halloween candy. Just 1 or 2 pieces yesterday. I hope to get out for a run tomorrow. The scale is holding steady which is good since I've been in rest and recovery mode for the last 11 days.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Good mornin' leaners!
Julie...all the kids in DS class love The Lightning Thief series. My Girls on the Run recommended it too!(I only have boys so I count on those girls to keep me up to date on the feminine side of things:) ) Anyway, the girls also said the "Main Street" series is really good.
Maria...DH and I went to WDW for our honeymoon in 1992. He had never been and had no interest in going, but it was all we could afford (apparently it was alot cheaper then:lmao: ). Now, he loves it and considers himself to be a "Disney Freak" like me. He doesn't ride any roller coasters, ToT, or anything that involves height.....crazy as that is, he loves TestTrack and Soarin'....I don't ask, I'm just thankful that he goes;) . Are you taking your son in Jan.? I think that "Feed a family of four" project sounds kinda cool, but it would be so hard for DS to do. My candy is still bagged, too! Really, no jokes? We've lived here forever and it's all we've ever known. Maybe it's just this area.
Beth...Oh your poor DS and needle issues. My DH is very distraught when he sees a needle and he's a big guy (6'4") he's had nurses tell him that if he starts to go down they won't be able to help.:scared1: Luckily, he always manages to stay upright! Does your school have an enrichment program? Sometimes those kids just really need something that interests them, but it's not always easy to find what that "thing" is. Good luck, this parenting stuff is hard;) .
Vicky...my kiddos love the McD's gift cert's. We don't go there very often and it gives them a reason to go....that's a great thing to give out.
Jeff...I guess if my runs were as beautiful as yours, I might be a little more motivated:) . It would be awesome to get to the point that a 1/2 marathon is no big deal. So, do you run just the 3 times each week?
Mike....so sorry that the knee is feeling worse. Let us know about the MRI, we'll be thinking about you. A drink by the fire sounds awesome.
Cindy....it's always good when the scale holds steady.

I'm in party planning commando mode today!

Morning Meanies!!!!! Back from WDW safe and sound! I know you all missed me lots....right.....

Debra: So glad I met you and DOOD at ToT. You did not seem shy at all. And just to let you know how much we are alike, on Sunday morning, I saw Debra and DOOD in front of us in line at AK, they went to Exp Everest and fast passed, my party went to Exp Everest and rode while I went back to get caffeine and hello, Debra and DOOD were there getting caffeine too!!! Great minds and all you know. Debra, sorry I did not know you were so close behind Scott and I, we could have all crossed together!!!! :goodvibes

I have read through the posts but I cannot say I am caught up so I am going to bypass even trying. Sorry....:worship: (that's me begging forgiveness AND worshipping the great work everyone is doing).

I am getting back into the swing of things after mountains of laundry and unpacking, replacing, etcetera. I swear it is easier going alone even though I miss my little family dearly!! I have been presented with the opportunity to do Goofy and I have to put that under consideration. I will talk it over with DH this weekend and see what we come up with for a plan of attack. I will have to give up CMM or VA Beach or maybe both depending. Either that or I need a better negotiator!!!!! :rolleyes1 So 10 weeks to train for 39.3, what am I thinking??????

I managed to only gain 1 pound while in WDW which puts me back up 4 pounds but who's counting. Oh yeah, me. Back on the wagon.......:dance3:

Hey Everyone!!

Our weekend at WDW was awesome, I loved the race and running at night. Other than a horrible leg cramp at mile 6.5 which I couldn't get rid of and consequently added about 10 minutes more to my finishing time than I would have liked, I did run the entire race up until that point except for water stops. I missed meeting WISH'ers prior to the race :sad2: , due to me having to wait a "friend" to give them their packet.these "friends" totally ditched me during the race, which was not our plan at all, so that sucked. Anyhoo.I did see Debra (didn't know who it was at the time, but based on the pics I have seen in other posts). Debra, I tried hard to catch up but you were TOO fast!! All in all I loved this race.

I am up a few pounds, but eating and exercise have been good this week. My BFF gave me some old jeans she doesn't fit in anymore, ,so I am motivated to get into them.

Lisa Do goofy if you can swing it!!!

Everyone:  and:grouphug:

Good Morning, Meaners!

I am feeling a little guilty it's a rest day, but I'm really glad, too. I slept in until 6:30 this morning, and that felt heavenly.

I am officially old -- my ds told me he wanted to download "Let's Hear it for the Boy" on his ipod, and I immediately tried to think where I left my Footloose cd. He quickly informed me that it's actually a new song on his icarly cd he just wants to move to the ipod. :sad1: Apparently, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" is also a brand new composition...

AmyK -- So sorry about the leg cramp and the less than thoughtful friends, but it sounds like you did have a good time overall! :cool1:

Lisa -- If anyone is ready for Goofy, it is you! :woohoo: I know you would rock the races! I'm glad you got to meet the elusive Debra, some of us were starting to think she's a pleasant mirage -- but now I've seen Jeanne's photos so I know she is real and quite lovely! princess:

Tracey -- DH and I went to Orlando for our honeymoon in 1993, and he vowed to never step foot in Epcot again. He's gotten over that, but subsequent visits to MK and HS have resulted in the same vow, which I haven't had time to work on yet. ;) We had neighbors who originally came from Baden, and now that I think about it, I do think they might have told jokes -- but they were speaking a combination of English and German, so I probably didn't realize what was going on! Why do I have a sudden craving for black forest cake? :goodvibes

Cindy -- All things considered, I'd be happy with those scale results. Now is when the Halloween candy gets difficult for me. Once the bags are open, I have to keep the bowls in the dining room and out of my sight! popcorn::

Mike -- I am so sorry your kneww is giving you so much trouble. :grouphug:

Jeff -- Who tapers for a Half? The rest of us mere mortals that's who! :worship:

Vicky -- What a great idea buying the McD's! I wish I could do that, but we average about 250-300 kids, and I just can't invest like that in Halloween.

Beth -- You win for best strategy to date! Not buying any candy would definitely help with not eating it! I'm sorry your workout was a stonker. I keep telling myself we have to have some of those so we appreciate the good ones...

Julie, Stacie, Wendy, Jeanne, Howard, Vic, Debra, Kira and lurky loos -- Everyone have an awesome Halloween Eve!

Maria :lovestruc

Hi Meaners! (It's Halloween, after all!)
Lisa...If you didn't read the back posts, you missed our :bday: wishes for you!:cool1: Hope it was wonderful! My $0.02...Go Goofy!
Amy....Sorry about the leg cramp, but AWESOME that you kept running up to that point. Sounds like you had a great race.
Maria....I loved Footloose! That brings back so many memories. I tend to be more partial to Gooey Butter Cake:goodvibes .
Have a great day all and
Happy Halloween!!!!

I am pretty happy today! (even though I was up all night with sick ds#2) Lisa, my ds#2, has the stomach flu thing too. I am afraid that it is heading my way...... I got 5 miles in yesterday, and 8 miles in today! And, I am down 1.5 pounds since last Sunday! Yippee!

Maria/Tracey: I have read The Lightning Thief in 1 day. It was really good. I got caught up into it just like the Harry Potter series. My dh wasn't too happy though.......when I am reading a good book, I become very one minded...... I highly recommend it to everyone!

Mike: Sorry to hear you knee is still troubling you....hope the MRI went better than you hoped! :wizard:

Well, we can all hope that the stomache bug stays away......:wizard: :wizard:

Beth

Hye guys! How is everyone???

Mike...Any word on that knee???

As for me... I got in my 6 miler yesterday. I haven't uploaded my Garmin info, but I did the 6 miles in 1hr, 29 min so that is just under a 15 min mile. I was feel pretty lathargic and was struggling for this one. Last Sunday, 5 miler was great, but this 6...not so much. I did try out my new Camelback FlashFlo. It was great! Didn't move around, bounce or anything. :thumbsup2 In 6 miles, It was completely empty too! I did have what I assume are electrolyte issues around Mile 5 and then until I finished. It was warm out, I was hot and then I got chills--all over. This lasted until I finished and even as I stretched and cooled down. I was drinking my Choc milk and having a piece of cheese toast when I was down right cold. I finally decided to go ahead and hop in the shower to warm up. I had a pack of sport beans and Mile 3. Not sure if that could effect it or not.

My arches gave me problems too. Some times my feet are sore, my arches are sore, but this is afer I take my shoes off. This time, I could feel them during my walk and knew they were going to bother me. My left one was so tender all day long. Better today, but I hope this doesn't continue to happen. I had my new Camelback waist pack on and also a new pair of socks. You wouldn't think this would affect your arches, but who knows? The socks were thinner. My new shoes were on back order, but hopefully they will be in this week. Maybe this will help.

Well, I guess that's about it.

Take care you guys!!!

Hi everyone! I think I gained a little bit of weight :( I weighted myself using the Wii Fit over the weekend and it looks like I'm up. I think it's from a busy October - I've been running around and not having enough time to make meals at home. So I've been eating out a lot and even though I've tried to be good, I think that's where the extra weight is from.

Well, I'm off to see my PT tonight to get in a workout and the weather is suppose to be warmish this week so I'll be out running Tues, Wed and Thurs. No more excuses! :)

Maria - That's a lot of trick-or-treaters!!! We get maybe 25 or 30 if it's a good night. And I must be old too because I didn't know those were new songs either.

Beth - Congrats on your weight loss! Hope your DD is feeling better!

Lisa - I think it's awesome you only gained 1 pound while at WDW!

Stacie - Have your tried doing an ice bath on your foot/feet? My PT recommend them when I had some pain in my big toe joint. They were pleasant but my foot felt a lot better afterwards. Maybe it will help with your arches too?

Mike - Hope your knee is doing better!

Take care everyone!

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't posted on the Lean Mean thread in a while. You are not out of mind. I hope you are all doing really well.:thumbsup2
I ran tonight after work. I better get used to running in the dark, huh? I wear a 2" belt made of a 3M reflective material used by firefighters on their helmets. It works great and is very visible to automobiles.

Here are my numbers:

Miles: 7.34
Time: 1:00:14
Pace: 8:12

Splits: 8:33, 8:07, 8:03, 8:04, 7:54, 8:19, and 8:09.

I am happy that I put some good miles in tonight in preparation for the Philadelphia Marathon coming up on 11/23. To address the "Lean" issue, I am officially 20 pounds down since my traing began at the end of May. I ran in excess of 450 miles to make that happen.

Have a great night!

:grouphug:

Howard

Howard: You are a lean mean running machine! Twenty pounds is great, and the PR's have made it even better, huh?

Lisa: Nice idea to re-do the office.......brightening up our lives, one paint job at a time! My entire house needs painting.....sigh......never enough time in a day to get it all done.

Suzanne: So sorry to hear about your FIL.......such a bad time of year for such a loss......my prayers are with you.

Maria: Where are you???? Haven't heard from you in awhile.

So, I had a lapse yesterday......ate one of mine own homemade CC cookies....didn't really WANT to, it just sort of happened. It was sitting on the counter, all by itself, and the next thing you know I am munching away (happily I might add). :goodvibes I have moved on, and will have a better day today!

No numbers from yesterday......ds#2 was still home sick, and I was there holding down the fort. So far, so good, though......not sick yet! I would probably already have it if I was getting it......but I am extremely tired from taking care of him! Better tired than sick.......

Beth

I am also back from TOT race, great to visit with all you folks. I, unlike Lisa, did not even try to read back posts to catch up. I did not gain any weight while at WDW, which is amazing considering all the junk I ate! But we did get in alot of exercise, averaging about 9-10 miles a day! And those are the miles that can be counted by a Garmin - therefore, no inside miles were recorded! We were not at home for Halloween, so we did not have Halloween candy in the house, except for the candy corn that kept jumping in my cart while at the grocery store!

Time to get out for my dog walk, then off to vote! Have a great day everyone!
