Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Okay, so how bad do I feel that I didn't even know there was a new thread??? And it's 10 pages long??? And don't ask me about my lean, meanness or training.

I'm sorry about the cross-posting, but I wanted to try and catch a lot of people.

Hey folks. Remember me? Or did you miss the dramatic exit I made a while back, announcing that I was ready for my close-up with Mr. DeMille? Dang, I knew I should have overacted! Or at least told you more about the drama in my life. ;) Ah, too late now. Such things are better left on the editing room floor.

First, I want to let you all know that I've been thinking of you--and to thank you all for thinking of me. I haven't even been lurking here, but I know you've been sending PD my way. I can feel it. I miss all your grand adventures, the running, the commiseration and support, the funny stories, and just hanging out.

I keep planning on coming back, apologies in hand (and running logs, too). But I can't seem to find the time and energy. No big crises, just ongoing professional and personal nuisances. I'm just overcommitted and in an environment that's not very healthy for me. And even my training has fallen off. The horrors! So I'm at a professional crossroads and will be for the next few weeks. And me without my compass and roadmap! Where are those Girl Scouts when I need them? :rotfl2:

And I wanted to let you all know that I'll be trying to adjust my life to get more balance in it. And you can read that as "spend time on the DIS time with friends." The first step is that DOOD and I put ToT back on our roster at the last minute. We might be DLF, but we'll be there. And I'm planning on that change in our routine spilling over into DISing when I get back. That's when I'll catch up with all of you and your lives, which are all much more interesting than mine.

In the meantime, if you still have spare PD, keep sending it my way. Oh, and a winning lottery ticket wouldn't hurt.

Good mornin'!
Beth....Yep, next time I'm reading the book too. DS10 is is 5th grade as well and he's hooked on The Lightning Thief series. Is your son reading these, too? Nice job making it to the gym and sorry to hear about the "sitting" injury. Those benches can be brutal.:lmao:
Stacie...I love your new Stitch countdown!
Deb.....We've missed you!:lovestruc Your life always sounds so interesting and now it's mysterious as well. Hope the film class is going well. Check back in soon.
Jeff...I always look at your posting times and think, "Wow, he's up early!" and then I realize that it's posting MO time and not Hawaii time:rolleyes1 . It's really cold here today....show us a sunny beach pic would ya?
Where did the rest of the boys go? Check in y'all, I need to see your speedy times for a little inspiration.
Take care and have a great day all!

Debra  Glad to see you'll be doing TOT!

I've been totally enjoying my time off with DD. It is a little bit of insanity at times, but I wouldn't trade this this time for anything. It is priceless.

With being at home, I am struggling a bit with the eating. I find myself getting caught up and busy with DD, and lunch usually goes by the wayside. So I end up snacking in the later afternoon, which ruins dinner. i am hoping to get into a better routine once weget back from TOT. Did i mention the only things DD will eat are grapes, bananas and goldfish crackers?? :confused3

I had a good walk tuesday, and a great TM run yesterday. Hope to get pilates in today.

Have a good day everyone!!:)

Tracey: My homework woes continue.....my ds#2 is brutal with the homework. Here the other night I THOUGHT his homework was done, but he didn't finish his math (left one unanswered question) and got another missing homework assignement notice.......ugh.......even when I am sitting right there! I never had this with the first kid......it's getting old! One stupid question....... My ds#1 loves the Lightening Thief series......ALOT.....he was waiting for the last one forever, and then read it in 2 days! They must be good! Maybe I will check them out myself........

Debra: WE MISSED YOU! Glad you are back, no matter what! I am glad you are getting to ToT.....you need a break!

Hope everyone else is out there somewhere! Have fun at ToT (those lucky enough to be going!)

Beth

Good Morning Team!

Lynn, aren't you and Scott doing Dopey or Dumbo? :confused3

Scott is doing the Dopey (all 3 races), I am just doing the 5K and full marathon - I did not want to jump from 1/2 marathons to the Goofy in one step like he is, so for me, just the full this year - who knows, I might be talked into the Goofy for 2010 with the rest of the group! But right now, I am wondering what I got myself into doing the full marathon!

I think you will have alot of company at the back of the pack - my training has not been very good lately, and although Panda Dave thinks he will keep me up with him, I am thinking that his pace might be a little fast for me right now!

On the positive side, Scott and I have decided to do weight workouts together in the evenings - using that bowflex collecting dust in the basement - when we get back from TOT! This should help both of us get in better shape for the marathon weekend! I will also try that food diary idea when we get back, if it will help me avoid the holiday junk food, that will be great!

See everyone in a week when we get back!

Hope all you ToTers have FUN!!! It sounds like a blast!!!

I'm just popping in to say HI!

Deb...Glad you are back!!! You have been missed!

On the training front, I got in my 45 min walk yesterday w/ my SIL and then I told her to call met this morning when she went and so I was up and out w/ her again this morning at 5am. I didn't like to do back to back training, but since I've scaled back to walking instead of running, she and I can do it together, my body reacts better on these back to back days and I think my time is the same if not a little faster. I can do 5 miles and not be dead afterwards and still go on to have a normal day. lol! Let's hope I feel the same way after 8/10/12 and 13.1 miles!!! :)

Seems like most of us here are facing challenges of personal, professional or training crisis... I am getting in my training..somewhat, but the weight loss just isn't happening. My work is stressing me out, my hair is still falling out, there have been no firm diagnosis on my health so...I'm just focusing on the 1/2 Marathon and having a great trip. I'm hope to lose a few lbs before then, but if not... Oh, well. I'm tired of stressing about it all the time. Please do not see this comment as me giving up, I am trying to eat healthy and make healthy choices, but I just feel like it is consuming me and I can't let it do that. As I've previously mentioned, we are thinking of starting a family so I am definately focused on eating right and being healthy. I'm trying to cut out the caffeine already and get in more H2O.

I'm trying not Wish this year away, but I cannot wait for the Half Marathon trip to get here and then prospect in Feb of me starting as a PT Water Fitness instructor is very exciting. Only 1-2 classes per week, but hopefully it will work out and they will hire me.

So...on that note, I want to tell everyone how proud I am of you. You all keep pushing forward and trying to make a difference in your life and those around you and you should all be very proud of yourself. I am happy to "know" you and can't wait to meet those that will be at WDW for Marathon weekend in Jan.

Take care y'all!
Stacie

Good morning, EVERYONE!

Pixie Dust to us all!

I went to the doctor for my 6 week post-op review. My shoulder is doing just great, everything looks just fine........except I have to do passive physical therapy exercises for another MONTH!!! A whole MONTH!!! I can't believe it. Seems like this is an ongoing, never ending thing here! At least, I don't have to drive 50 miles to the PT twice a week. I get to do it at home. Since I have had little to no training since the steroids, I am going to incorporate my Physical therapy exercises into a workout routine. At least that part's good. But will I EVER get to move my arm behind my head?? SHeesh, I can't even put my own hair in a pony tail!

Y'all make a great day. Off to pick my arm up and put it down and pick it up and put it down, and .......:upsidedow

Hey Connie,

Glad to hear your recovery is progressing. Hmm, can't put hair in a pony tail. If it were me, I'd just cut my hair, and have a new look  .

Might I suggest a routine of 16 oz. curls? :drinking1

Stacie,

Don't fret, we're all in this together (stolen from High School Musical) :happytv: . Keep up the repetitions, no matter how you feel. Exercise is to relieve stress, not cause you more. Embrace your workouts, and know we're with you every step of the way.

Now, here's a swift kick to your okole, now get out there and get 'er done! :grouphug:

Aloha, Jeff! Cut my hair???? :scared1: NEVER! Well, almost did happen, though. When I was alone (for a 4 days) a week after the surgery and in horrendous pain and taking drugs.....I picked up the phone to call someone to cut my hair when I realized that 1) I didn't know anyone who could cut hair 2) I couldn't drive there if I knew someone 3) I couldn't read the phone book to find someone, anyway and 4) I understood Brittany Spears! NOW THAT was scary!!!!

As for 16 oz curls, still on the pain meds.....have to wait awhile. But I like the way you think!

Stacey, have you seen an endocrinologist? You are describing symptoms of low thyroid function.

Debra, you have been well and truly missed. I hope you can find a calming influence soon!

I am wshing everyone a happy weekend.

Hi guys!

Connie...Yes I have seen one. My t4 was actually a bit high, but the overall levels were normal so she thought I was fine...

Just reporting that I got in my 5 miles in today. I got out there and my garmin was going dead so since I walk in my neighborhood, I charged it for my first mile and then came back to get it.

It lasted my additional 4 miles.

My splits (they are called splits right?):

Mile 1: ???
MIle 2: 14:37
Mile 3: 14:22
Mile 4: 4:37
Mile 5: 14:33

Hope everyone has had a nice weekend and those at Tot and other races had a fabulous time!!!

Stacie

Mornin' friends!
Anyone back from ToT?
Connie...Sorry to hear you have another month of PT. Scary, and yet funny, story about the hair cutting inspiration! Thank goodness you couldn't read the phone book.:scared1:
Amy...I love being home with my little guy. I struggle with the same thing, in that lunch gets skipped...unfortunately, then I just eat off his plate and that was a bad habit for me to get into. I'm glad you're finding lots of quality time.:)
Beth...Kids are all different, aren't they? My 1st is independent, always gets his work completed and seldom needs help. My 2nd struggles quite a bit and usually requires help with homework, but he loves Science and he's a wiz at it. My 3rd is gifted and the 4th...well who knows, but he seems to be exactly like #1. I really do think I'm going to start reading The Lightning Thief. The more he talks about it, the more I want to read it.
Lynn...I think it's awesome that you have your DH to train with.
Stacie...Can't wait to meet you, too:) . Although, I'll admit that it makes me a little nervous to meet all of these people that I've never met before. WTG on your 5 miles.....that's fast walking!
Jeff....how are things in your neck of the woods?

Anybody else feeling like....I'd rather be in Disney? I finally made some ADR for our trip. We're going to try the California Grill, Le Cellier (our favorite), and Coral Reef (we haven't been since our honeymoon and the last time we were at Disney by ourselves....16 1/2 yrs ago).
I'm maintaining consistency with workouts and ran my 8miles yesterday. I'm still finding that when I'm running over 5 miles, a 9:1 run/walk ratio works really well for me. I don't always need the 1 minute, but it helps. I still feel a little :scared: when I think about 13.1 miles, but if I can do 8, then I should be able to do 13 right? I'm down 3 lbs this month, my goal was 5, so I better get myself in gear.
Have a great day all!

I'm Baaaack! The trip was great, it made me really appreciate my job and the resources I have available. Plus, I got to see Christian Slater filming his new tv show. He looks really, really yummy....not at all what I expected after all the problems he has had. :scratchin

I started Half Marathon training yesterday. I did strength training, and this morning I did 3 mi before work. 5 am comes really early...:scared1: Now all I have to do is keep it up for the next few months, and I won't have to worry about being swept like I did last year. :goodvibes (Clarifying -- I wasn't swept, I earned my medal, I just worried about it way too much!)

Tracey -- I have a ds10 in 5th grade, too! Those book reports...we have one a month, plus extra reports on movies, field trips, etc. Right now we're working on Maniac Magee, and St. Benjamin. St. Benjamin died a terribly painful death from torture, which apparently is quite fascinating.

Stacie -- It sounds like you got a good workout in, even with the Garmin issues. :flower3:

Connie -- Oh my goodness, I understand the hair issues! Every once in awhile I just want to cut it all off. Luckily, that feeling passes, but I get it! :hippie:

Jeff -- Are you overdosing on HSM3? The soundtrack is permanently on in our home -- ds10 could not be more into it. :dance3:

Lynn -- I know you are going to do great with the Full! While ya'll are being Goofy and Dopey, I'll be Grumpy (I think that's what happens when you are in the Happiest Place on Earth and dh refuses to enter a theme park...). :confused3

Beth -- Our last report was on Nim's Island, the movie. DS did a poster of all the animals in the movie, as they were in the movie with facts about their actual lives. Why do I feel like I'm in 5th grade again?! :headache:

AmyK -- Ah, the picky eater years...Actually I am really lucky, ds ate whatever we put in front of him when he was younger. Now he thinks chicken fingers is a food group...sigh. :sad2:

Debra -- So glad to see you again! I'm personally looking forward to your witticisms and random thoughts, which are frankly good team fun! :joker: Plus, your sage advice and unrelenting support are also always gratefully received!

:wave2: to Howard, Mike, Dave, Wendy, Julie and other Lean Meaners!

Everyone have a lean, mean, super clean day!
Maria :upsidedow

Hey Lean Meaners.

I thought I posted here yesterday. Apparently I forgot to. My report is on the race report thread. Here's the condensed version.

I was out racing my 30K in the rain. 2:59:05 with soaked feet, clothes, visor, hair, etc. Could have been better, but I thought it would be wise to take it easy and not get hurt by falling, or slipping in puddle.

The keiki haven't gone to see HSM3 yet, and we don't have the CD either. So for the moment, I haven't had to listen to the music whenever we are in the truck. :rotfl:

Have a great day everyone.

Reminder, there is a WISH hat/visor order going on now. We need your help to reach the minimum order necessary.

Please order if you can.

Good Morning Everyone,

I have to be quick this morning, because I have to do some work.

Connie: Sorry the recovery is going slowly. Better slow than not at all.

Maria: Welcome back from your trip. Good luck with the half training.

Jeff: Nice job with the 30K despite the weather conditions. So it's not beautiful and sunny all the time?

Tracey: I can imagine that 13.1 mi is daunting, but you're right, if you can do 8 you can do 13.1. You still have plenty of time to train, and once you are there with all the crowd around you, your energy level will carry you thru. Great job with the weight loss. I'm not counting on any this week with all the Halloween candy around.

Stacie: Good job on the workouts. You have to do what you can keep up with consistently, and if weight loss is too stressful right now, you've taken a good approach by just eating healthier and keeping up with your workouts.

Amy: I read your race report on the other thread. Sorry you missed all the WISHers. Glad you finished although slower than you wanted. You stuck with it when it got tough. Good for you.

Beth: Hope all is well.

I got out for a 3 mi run yesterday, the first one since my marathon. My hamstrings were tight, but my knees felt fine which I was worried about because after the race they were sore. I'm going to try to run again in a few days. I'm getting back into it slowly over the next 2 weeks then I'll start training for the Hyannis (Mass) Marathon in February. That will be another attempt to qualify for Boston. I guess I'm not ready to give up on my dream yet. Eating has not been stellar, but not awful either so I guess that's OK.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Good morning meaners! How goes it? Glad to see some of you back. I have been lazy with posting the last few days......but, never fear, I was lurking!

Cindy: Glad to see that you got back out there! It's a good plan, weaning the miles up again. Your poor hammies needed the rest! :lmao:

Jeff: I hate running in the rain......wet shoes, soggy socks.......yuck! Good for you getting it done.

Maria: So you are in fifth grade too???? :teacher: I keep telling my ds#2 that I already finished the fifth grade!!!! DS #1 did the fifth grade last year with no drama at all......no homework notices, no big deals at all.........flash forward to kid #2, and all h*** has broken out! UGH! Right now he (we) are reading a book about kids competing to climb Mt. Everest. I am having to read along with him, because I am not much help not knowing the book.

Tracey: I only ran 8 miles for a long run before my first half......I was a fool, but I had a great race and had a great time! I finished it with 12 min miles too (and no walking). Still consider it my best race, even though my times improve with training. Just enjoy the journey and then the race itself.....no need for anxiety! :thumbsup2

So, a big shout out for Big Vic (we miss you), Jeanne (how was your trip?), Wendy (how's your foot?), Amy (how's the SAHM business?) :thumbsup2

I have been maintaining pretty well, still 8 pounds down. I am happy with that right now. I would like 20 more gone eventually, but I am happy right now. I got a 7 miler in on Sunday, and it felt good. I didn't push for a fast time, just got the miles done appreciated the REALLY nice day we had.

Beth

Good Morning Lean Mean Brigade!

I did my 3mi this morning, and I'm feeling great! It's nice to be mostly worked out before 6 am. I have yoga at work today, so I'm being extra fitness oriented.

I am feeling a little like a slug though. I have a friend who lives in LA, and she is taking a vacation for the next two weeks -- an adventure trek to the Galapagos Islands and then hiking in the Andes. I can't even imagine doing either of those things.

Beth -- The book on Everest sounds good. I am just repeating the English, Reading, Vocabulary and Social Studies parts of 5th grade. DH is in charge of Math and Science! We usually flip for Religion...ds attends Catholic school, so yes, that is a subject.

Cindy -- I don't think you should ever give up on your dreams! It sounds like qualifying for Boston is doable for you, it's just a matter of the stars aligning, which they will eventually do! :wizard:

Jeff -- Wow! 30K! :woohoo: I can't even imagine. You totally rock, especially in the rain!

Everyone have a great Lean Mean Day!
Maria :cheer2:
