So tell me some honest answers...did you put on weight while you were on your WDW vacation? We will only be there for 5 days (3 park days) but I'm sure with the FD we will be eating A LOT, quantity wise and calorie wise. I'm hoping all the park walking will help get rid of some of that but I'm curious if I will come home heavier than I left.

:confused3

It is usually a wash for me. With all the walking, those churros and mickey ice cream bars just don't hang around.

When on DDP, I have always gained 5-7 lbs during our 10-11 day trips. REALLY. I drink protein shakes for breakfast and lunch at home, and run 5-6 miles per day. When at Disney those character meals/buffets kill me. Even if I get salad, which I do A LOT, or at least try to go with the healthiest options (no cheeseburgers and fries here) its more than I'm used to. Plus the walking really doesn't make up for it because I'm used to running. I am currently at a all time low in weight loss, but plan on losing 5 more before September, so my clothes still fit when I get home:rotfl: Also so I wont feel guilty eating all that FREE FOOD.

I would especially love to hear from a fellow pasta and potato lover. I think I am going to go on carb overload.

We come home the same. We eat no more than we would at home, limiting ourselves to one or two snacks a day, pretty much just like at home. We seek out healthy options and skip over the burgers and fries.

Don't eat it if you aren't hungry/don't want it. On the paid dining plan, this is killer. Lots of people don't eat to the plan, so they either end up eating food they don't need, or not using credits for food. On free dining, just eat what you want/need. Don't be afraid to leave food on your plate, or carry a dessert for a snack later on.

If you weight is a concern, continue to maintain any habits you have at home. Take advantage of the extra walking and maybe come home a few pounds lighter than when you left.

I haven't. I definitely eat more and eat higher calorie food while on vacation, but even with staying for 10 days I haven't gained weight. We start our day at rope drop and walk at a pretty steady pace throughout the day. We don't take afternoon breaks so we end up walking a lot each day which I think evens things out.

I definitely eat more high calorie food than I do at home, it usually ends up being a wash for me. I think two trips ago (one week) I lost a couple of pounds total and last year I gained a couple (2 weeks and only 1/2 that time at WDW). I don't worry about what I'm eating while I'm on vacation and so far I've lucked out with it not being a big gain. I'm doing DxDP this year for the first time though, so that luck may run out. :rotfl2:

Pretty much a wash for me. While I am eating less healthy food, I'm much more active. It actually is a good thing. Part of what I look forward to is the food and I know there will be enough activity to burn it off.

I usually loose weight from all the walking.

I eat whatever I want BUT I don't eat more than I normally do. I don't over eat just because it is there. I eat all the junk I want but I don't stuff myself at buffets or anywhere. It is much more about the quantity than what you are eating.

I've never gained weight at Disney.....even with free dining. But I was always the FP runner for my family......Since FP running is a thing of the past I may gain weight this time around. We'll see.

5 pounds every FD time

Thanks, I was feeling like the only one!! I am a health food junkie and runner, and I just let loose at Disney, and don't feel guilty, so the walking does nothing to help. I'm reading all these comments, and thinking......wow, maybe I need to cut back a little:confused3

I was there last week, dining plan for 4 days, I gained 6 pounds when I first came home on Sunday night (got weighed Monday morning). I think most of it is water retention. As of this morning, I was up about 2.

OK- fellow carb lover here. I actually eat less pasta at DW than I do at home, and more protein. I don’t eat all burgers and fries- I try to mix it up and have some variety with fruits and veggies as well. I WILL have dessert at dinners and sometimes as snacks. For me, it is usually a wash. But, I am also more active there than at home.

DH usually gains 5-10 pounds- and he is more active at home so the exercise is a wash for him- but he usually loses it pretty quickly when we get back. I think this is the key to if you will gain or not- the more active you are at home the less the activity benefits you to burn off the extra calories.

I love food and vacations so I go hard lol..

Xmas vacation was 13 days but had severe food poisoning the first 8-9 days.. Still gained 17lbs

A few weeks ago we went for 4 days and I pulled 14.6lbs

:)

I track my macros year round though and bodybuild as a hobby.. When it comes to disney vacations I sort of contest prep leading into the vacation so I'm pretty depleted.. The gains are pretty much all water and nitrogen gains into the muscles, some water retention, and a lot of intestinal junk.

I lose 10-12lbs the first 4-5 days when I'm back home tracking my macros and then the rest comes off over the few weeks following.. When I gain all this weight you can't even tell.. It's pretty wild...

I've never gained and I don't restrict while I am there. I think walking up to 8 miles a day helps with that! I do gain a lot of water weight though, I think from all of the sodium in the food. That can be 6-8 lbs in a week (yuck). That falls off quickly when we get home though and I go back to eating properly. I wouldn't worry about it at all, I really do think the walking takes care of it and if you do gain when you get home, start chugging your water and I bet it will fall off in a week.

I think this is the key to if you will gain or not- the more active you are at home the less the activity benefits you to burn off the extra calories.

So true. At home, I run about 60 miles per week and lift on top of that while keeping a strict diet. I eat what I want at WDW. No amount of walking will make up for that (I usually run a few miles in the morning there too), and I always come home 5-10 lbs heavier. But it goes away quickly, and is ALWAYS worth it.

Hi Op! I put on a total of 4 pounds with a day at DTD/DQ, a day at HS (GF pizza and the fanicest Brown Derby meal ever, with dessert), plus a totally indulgent Disney Magic cruise for 4 days, (with a lot of walking, dancing, swimming and running on deck and working out at gym), plus a day at SeaWorld and a day at EP. 10 days and almost all you can eat, including decadent Palo brunch on cruise. And when I got back, I had gained only 3.5 pounds and gained a half pound after (but I've been resuiming my running and even did a 5K Mud Run the week after I got back.) If I could ditch the carb addiction I picked up on vacation, it would disappear.

So for some data, I wear my body bugg in the parks. My bugg logged enough steps at EP to count over 10 miles of walking! At that rate, you shouldn't gain very much as long as you aren't in a wheel chair or something. I actually think that Amusement Parks could cure obesity!

I also do better not gaining weight when I eat GF, and we had GF pizza, chicken tenders, mac n cheese, brownies, cookies and even beer! We ate dessert literally every night and you know how cruises can be! Normally I gain about 6 or more pounds on a trip like this, but GF does make a difference. I also didn't drink as much on this trip.

I had a loottt of fun for 3-4 pounds! Keep those feet moving, eat protein entrees instead of pasta (I ordered duck at Brown Derby, wow!), bring some Chromium to keep the blood sugar in check, Keep the alcohol to a minimum, regular coke products too, and I think you will be fine! We even ordered a Micky ice cream bar on the cruise and at the park at 330 cals a piece, yeesh!

I did go back and log everything as best I could on my LoseIt weight loss app and of course I was over. But literally 4 hours plus counted for walking on some of those days so a lot of times, it was a wash!

I hope that helps!

On our last trip I had free dining and so had booked a bunch of character meals which are mostly buffets. We also did Wishes Dessert Party at Tommorowland Terrace. I'm not ashamed to say I ate like a pig, especially the desserts as I'm a huge sugar junkie.

However, my 10 month old, who weighed about 18 pounds at the time, decided she was not going to ride in the stroller no matter what and got very clingy to me with all the new sites and sounds going on. I was soooo glad that I had brought the baby sling with me to carry her in or my arms may have fallen off.

So since I spent the majority of the time carrying the baby on me, whilst pushing the 40 pound 5 year old in the stroller, I actually ended up losing one pound despite all the eating. and I think I had some form of chocolate mousse just about every day.

I feel like I retain a lot of water while at Disney. I usually am up a couple of pounds but after a few days home it's gone.
