Weight and Jean Size

I weigh around 165 and wear a size 12 or 14 jeans depending on the brand. I carry most of my weight in my thighs and stomach. To the point where some very obnoxious people have asked me when I'm due (nope, not pregnant, just fat, thanks for making my day!).

Wow that must be the theme, because I carry my weight mainly in my stomach and a little in my thighs and weigh 205 and am 5'6 and wear a 14. Sometimes a 16, but 80% a 14.

It's all about distribution and shape. I'm 5'4" and an hourglass (weight is classified info) and have about a 10lb-15lb range in jeans sizes. Right now I wear a loose 12, not falling off but having to pull up my jeans all day long. My stepmother is a little taller, built radically different but exact same weight and can wear an 8-10 easily. DD, who is about an inch and half shorter than me but has a booty, small waist and bigger on top (pear? hourglass with a generous booty) is 10-15lbs lighter and wears a size larger in juniors then I would. I am about 5lbs away from a comfy size 10 and weigh more then some who say they're in 14s on the thread. I'm all about cardio and negative calories right now, working on a gain from a very stressful year but if I went all hardcore Jillian Michaels for a few weeks I could easily wear a size smaller but remain the exact same weight. (I should do this but that stupid # that shouldn't mean anything to me does) Very few people know my weight but are always stunned when I let it slip because the way I'm distributed, you'd never know I weigh as much as I do.

I'm 5'2" and my weight lately has been hovering around 125lbs. Depending on brand I wear anywhere from a 2 to a 5 in pants and an xs to a medium in tops. I really find such a discrepancy between brands!!

I'm 5'3", weigh between 150 and 155 pounds (depends on the day), and wear a size 8 jeans. I have a lot of muscle which makes buying pants tricky. I suspect my waist might be a 6. When I was 170-175 I could squeeze into a 10. It wasn't pretty, but I could get them on.

It really depends on where you carry your weight.

I'm 5'8" and weigh 125 lbs. and wear a size 4/6, but I'm pear shaped. I've seen many women that weigh much more than me that have smaller hips/butt/legs than I do. I certainly can see a 10 lb. woman wearing a size 4/6 if she carries most of her weight up top.

I'm 5'1" with what I'm told is a large/wide bone structure - broad (across) hips and shoulders, yet my ribs and hipbones stick out. At this point in my pregnancy, I have NO idea what my true size is anymore - my belly is the only part that's gotten larger, my baby weighs 7-8 lbs. already, yet I've only gained 5 lbs. overall :confused3 I'm wearing XL (14-16?) across the board in maternity clothes, but they really only fit me across the shoulders and in the belly; the bust area in tops is extremely loose and the butt/thighs in pants are extremely saggy.

Back when I was a senior in HS (1991-92), I remember my measurements were 36-28-38, I wore a size 10 in bottoms...and I weighed 167 lbs.

FWIW, in my pre-pregnancy days...my mother is 4 inches taller than me, 10 lbs. LIGHTER in weight, but she's 4 sizes larger in clothing. Completely different body type.

 Hang in there. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with DS, but I was in my early 30's at the time. I read your later post about how yours is going and you are doing a lot better than I did. I couldn't get mine under control and had to be on insulin. It was very frustrating, b/c my diet was stricter than DH who is diabetic. I weighed about 186/188 when I became pregnant. However, after I had DS, I was 30 pounds lighter! Having the gestational diabetes was difficult to deal with, but in the end it was worth it. Btw, the diabetes went away after I had DS. Although I'm still at a risk of getting it due to it being hereditary in my family.

I'm 5'5" and weigh 116 - 120 depending on the day. Sizes are so all over the place between brands that I don't know what my true size is, but I use size 4 as a starting point.

Like most people, my weight fluctuates, but it's always around this: 5'0", between 125-130lbs, size 28"-29" or 6-8 depending on the brand. Most of my weight is in my lady pecs and my behind, so that makes buying fun yet comfy clothes an exercise in frustration. I know you ladies can relate!

I'm 5'1" 124 pounds and wear a size 2 or 4 jeans which I mostly get from Old Navy (Diva cut). I've gained about 5 pounds this year that won't come off and that 5 pounds makes the size 4 more comfortable. However, I have one pair of size 2 that still fit looser than the size 4's. Don't know why. I workout for an hour 5 times a week --30 min of hard cardio and 30 min of weights. I am 50 yrs old.

Those stretchy jeans give a lot of wiggle room for sizing. Or maybe she found one pair of size 10's that fit. Once I tried on a pair of size 6's that fit me, and you bet your bippy I bought those suckers! They were probably mislabeled, but that was one prominently displayed size tag. I made sure everyone saw it!

When I was a teenager I could easily fit into a size 6. i was 5'2 and weighed 134. The problem was they were too loose in the waist, but fit just right in the butt. My butt has always been too big. :rolleyes1

I think also it depends on the rise. My neighbor wears low riders / low rise. That's fine except she has a lot of muffin top that hangs over and down the waistband.

I've tried on low riders / low rise and I could get into a much smaller size but it just pressed all my flab up and, like my neighbor, over the waistband. That's really not a good look. Just because you can zip it doesn't mean you should wear it. ;)

5'6 and 136-ish. I wear Old Navy Sweetheart size 6. My biggest problem is that I have a waist, and hips, and I could probably do size 4, except that I could not get them comfortably around my hips. So I have to choose to have a waist too big and hips that are comfortable, or something that is tight all over.

I have yet to find a pair of jeans that fit me good - I should search the "expensive" types, but prefer to buy them for under $30/pair.

Eh, weight and size is a very weird thing.
I wear a much smaller size than you'd think if you knew my weight. I'm 5'1, I'm about 140-145 and wear a 6 (comfortably, not squeezing into a too small size). If I get under 140, I'm a 4. Yeah, I don't know.
It must be all about body type. I'm very hourglass.

I'm somewhat hour glass shaped and am roughly 170 at 5'5" and fit comfortably in a size 10 from Old Navy.

I depends so much on your muscle to fat ratio and body shape. I carry my weight mostly up top. I'm not apple shaped but let's just say my weight is around the chest area and leave it at that.

I am not convinced your weight always correlates to size. I wear size 4 in pretty much everything (every once in awhile 6 in a tighter fitting pencil skirt and sometimes a 2 in skirts and dresses that do not hug the hips) and I am not talking about squeezing into things with muffin tops. However, I am about 5'6" and about 138-140 (sometimes I can get to below 135). I run or lift weights 5-6 days a week and have for years. I am very "solid." I mean even at weigh ins at doctors they are surprised by my weight. I think part of it for me is I carry in more in my butt, thighs and calves. For example, it is hard for me to sometimes find a cute pair of denim capris because in order for them to fit my calves, they will not stay up on my waist.
I can relate to this. I just lost twenty pounds. At my highest I was 170 and I fit into my size ten jeans with no problem--room to spare. Not sure what size I'll wear now. Need to buy new ones.five ft ten.

I think also it depends on the rise. My neighbor wears low riders / low rise. That's fine except she has a lot of muffin top that hangs over and down the waistband.

Preach!

I really depends on height and weight distribution. When I was about 140 I was in size 4. The general rule, I've read, is that on average every 10lb is a size difference, so according to that formula 170lb at size 10 is reasonable.

I'm 5'7" and weigh 105 pounds.
I wear a size 2 in just about all brands of pants (Lands End, Lee, Dockers).

And let's not forget about vanity sizing. Sizes have gotten smaller over the years. What used to be a size 10 twenty years ago is now a size 6. image.jpg
