I like the Curves workout. The music (something with a beat) and the other women make it easy to keep going and so far, I just haven't gotten bored with the routine. As mentioned, about every 30 seconds or so, you move to the next station. "Recovery" pads alternate with various machines. The machines operate on hydraulic resistance and each one focuses on a specific set of muscles. The faster you go on the machines, the harder you have to work. So as your fitness increases, so does the intensity of the workout. They stop the circuit every so often to make you take your heart rate. That's to make sure you are exercising at the right rate. If it's too fast, you take it easy a little and if it's too slow, you can kick it up a little.
I also like that I don't get sore from the Curves workout. I was worried about that - how can it be working if you don't get sore, right? The Curves manager says it's because of how the machines are designed - something about the "pull and push" motion. She explained it and it made sense when I heard it, but I can't repeat it here. I just remember that she said it does work and it isn't supposed to "make you sore".
I also like that Curves is just for women. My Curves has all ages of women and they are all levels of size/fitness. I don't feel like I'm too fat or worry about how I look (like I did at other places). Most people just exercise in sweat pants and a T-shirt - no fancy-smancy exercise stuff that shows off your "fat rolls" is required.
I like that I am building muscle, which takes more calories to support than fat cells. I was told that most women can lose weight just by cutting out the excess sugar in their diets and exercising at Curves 3 times a week.
I like that even when you aren't losing weight, you are losing inches. Muscle weighs more than fat, but I'd rather have muscles than fat. I look and feel better. Now I don't really care how much I weigh, just how I look in my jeans, LOL!
I like that if I keep exercising, I don't have to diet for the rest of my life. I'll be able to eat "normally". Never could stay on those maintenance diets, LOL!
Hope you like Curves as much as I do! I was going to skip today, but after reading your post, I'm planning to go later this afternoon. Thanks for the inspiration!
