Wegovy just recently got released for use in Canada and I just took my first dose yesterday. Since it’s been available in the USA for a while, I wondered what other people’s experiences have been with this?

I will say that someone I know is taking it and this person sings its praises a lot. It seems to work, but I know there are potential issues too. So far though I hear it has been good.

EDIT: So I realize that this person is on something similar, but it is not exacly the same as Wegovy. It's one of these new things though.

How have you been feeling ? I’m surprised we are actually allowing it.
I hope it helps you. I have no experience, but do have a FB friend in the US who I’ve watched melt through her feed. She also says that that most of her pain is gone, fibro, etc.

I’m currently in the US and my Naturopath has been pushing me to take it. I even refilled Ozempic for free two years ago (insurance covered all of it as I had maxed out yearly RX copays already) before looking at side effects and ended up throwing the injection out after it expired. I just couldn’t get myself to go through any more meds (have been through fertility treatments that damaged my liver). She is now pushing Munjaro and said I’m the only one refusing to take it.

The risks I read about are thyroid cancer, pancreatitis and permanent gastric issues (think diarrhea or really bad constipation causing hospital visits). You also loose collagen and get heavy wrinkles and a sagging face look (look for Ozempic face pictures online).

Our problem is the body pumping excessive insulin (can be excessive carbs or stress). Ozempic blocks the insulin and you don’t feel hungry anymore. Once you stop Ozempic the cravings will come back with a vengeance and people regain what they lost and even more. Gastric bypass works because by reducing the size of the stomach the insulin that’s being pumped gets reduced (that’s how I understood it). But you can eat small portions too often and expand the stomach and regain the weight as you never addressed the root cause - depression and using food to soothe anxiety/stress.

I asked my holistic Dr if Phentermine could help but she said she would have to run additional heart tests before prescribing it. They make a lot of money by pushing injections and she never offered this (I knew about it).

It sucks to have insulin resistance. I won’t get into how much medical gaslighting I’ve been through. Walgreens can barely stock my thyroid meds (undiagnosed for years due to the same gaslighting Dr.’s that would tell me it’s in my head).

Maybe I’ll change my mind in the future or I’ll be the one eyed person in the land of the blind.

P.S. I continue to exercise and have high cardio fitness (HIIT on Bowflex max and strength training at PT) and above average muscle mass. I do the core restore liver detox once a year.

We were at a family party today for a youngster's birthday. One of the ladies there, a very, very good, lifetime friend in her early 50's, and overweight, told us of her taking Wegovy. She said the pounds melted off, about 30 pounds. Then stalled. She said she was starting to have various physical issues and stopped taking it. In short order she said she put the 30 back on, plus 5 more. She is looking to do some sort of stomach surgery in a couple months.

Not taking it personally, but I have 3 friends who are.

Friend 1: Combined with a keto diet (all under her cardiologist) she has lost 80 pounds and did not have any side effects to speak of.
Friend 2: Couldn't get the lower dose at all so she agreed to start out on the higher does. Was very ill (vomiting) for 3 weeks but seems to have adjusted now (has lost about 20 lbs last time we spoke). Word to the wise--work your way up.
Friend 3: On the lowest dose just starting out, no real side effects but some digestive discomfort after a heavy restaurant meal. Seems to no yet be controlling her appetite so anxious to see how the higher dose goes. Lost a couple of pounds.

Just my take and I hope you don't find this personally offensive but,

Friend 1 could probably have lost the weight on a strict Keto diet alone.

Friend 2 was vomiting for 3 weeks. That's 20 pounds right there if one is careful not to overeat afterward and put it back on.

Friend 3 is still eating heavy meals on the low dose which is what the drug is supposed to stop (desire to overeat). The "couple of pounds" could just be normal fluctuation. Heavy people go up and down daily due to water retention/loss.

I'm very anti this whole idea. I'll admit it outright.

Friend #1 went through medically supervised diets for well over a year, to include keto. Nothing really worked. For her, the medication absolutely halted her desire to eat.

I'm not disputing the issue of willpower. I merely said, "Friend 1 could probably have lost the weight on a strict Keto diet alone". In fact, looking at my own quote again, I'd go a step further and take out the word probably.

Wow a LOT of judgement on this thread. I am honestly scare to post my experience because of it. Not everyone can do Keto for a variety of reasons. It is not all just willpower. Also the amount of second\third hand accounts where people are being so cruel and judgmental of "friends" and family? Wow if that is how you talk about your friends, I don't want to know what you say about people you don't care for.

I hope you weren’t thinking I was judging my friends. I was relaying their experience. I am totally on board with them using the drug as I’ve watched them struggle FOR YEARS. I’m fully supportive.

Some other posters are being less than supportive. And it is great you are supportive of your friends but if I found out my friend was sharing my medical information and about my weight loss journey on a message board I would not be happy about it. Maybe your friends are different.

Considering I didn’t share their names and none of us know each other or who our friends are here, I know none of them would care. They are also quite open about it with everyone. That’s how I know all the details!

DH's doc had him try Ozempic a while back. (He has type 2 diabetes, and does not mind if I mention it to help others or to get advice.) He did start losing weight pretty quickly, but he didn't feel "himself" at all - stomach issues, mood swings, etc. He went back to his previous med that works fine for the diabetes, but doesn't really help with reducing hunger cues.

However, I know two other people who are on it, who did not have the same side effects, and are happy with it.

I don't know if the judgy comments are aimed at me. I don't care if they are. I don't judge anyone and I know a lot of people who struggle with their weight. My concern is for the future health of those being offered this latest weight loss miracle. The bottom line here is profit, and the people who are profiting right now don't care about the potential side effects that we won't fully understand until some time in the future. This isn't all roses. People have had disastrous side effects with these drugs already. You can find anecdotal accounts with a simple online search. In addition some people who aren't even considered overweight are using the drugs to slim down further, out of vanity, only to find that now they have the unwanted side effects on their faces. Look up ozempic face to see what I mean. Ironic trade off in those cases. Even my own PCP is pushing this medication now with signage in the waiting room and a price list on the wall. No mention what so ever about alternatives such as lifestyle changes, downsides, or warnings. Just "set up the appointment to receive your first dose today! (cash only)). To me that's very scary.
