If I rent a car for a weekly rate discount but only use it 5 days, will they end up charging me the daily rate if I turn it in early, or will the weekly rate still apply when returned?

I can't find a good rate for 5 days vs what I'd pay for the week so that is the reason for my question.

The reservation system will give you the weekly rate if your rental period complies with the terms of a weekly rental. Sometimes you need to keep the car over a Saturday night to qualify. Sometimes 5 days (or 5 days and 2-3 hours) is enough.

edited to add I checked. Alamo requires keeping the car over a Saturday night to qualify for the weekly rate.

5 day rentals (with a Sat nite stay) usually qualify for a weekly rental, try playing around with the pick up and drop off times, it may help.

But if you rent the car for 7 days and drop it off after 5 you will probably get socked a significant upcharge. It might be wise to call the rental company, sometimes they can help in situations like this.

But by all means keep shopping regularly and trying all the codes you can find, right up to leaving. Sometimes for no apparent reason they will drop their rates, but it may only be for a day or two.

It sounds like the OP isn't getting the weekly rate for a 5 day rental. That suggests he's not renting over a Saturday night.

Try to find an agency that offers a weekly rate for 5 days, without requiring renting a car over a Saturday night. That doesn't work try to find a coupon for a free day.
