I'm trying to plan for June 2009 (I know it's far in advance, but.....) As of right now I have us leaving on Saturday and returning the following week on Tuesday (9 days).....I really want to utilize the weekends so DH doesn't have to take so many days vacation.

Well....now DH is getting involved and saying maybe we should leave on a Tuesday and come back on a Thursday (he says air fare will be lower).

BUT...I KNOW him, and I know that next year when it comes down to it, he's gonna bellyache about being gone from work so long...so in MY opinion, we should pay the higher airfare and enjoy the extra weekend that we will get and he will only have to be gone from work 7 days as opposed to 9 days...Kwim?

Advice please!!! Thanks!

Don't you love when DH gets involved? LOL! I'm with you. I always book a trip leaving midweek and extending it as long as possible over weekends so DH doesn't have to use more than a few days of work. Throw a holiday in there and he misses even less days of work.

For example, we are going on a cruise in February. We are leaving Tuesday night and coming home a week from that Saturday. DH will take 6 vacation days total (one is a comp day and one is President's Day) and we will be gone a total of 11 full days.

We are a family of 5, so if I have to pay airfare for all of us I am making the most of the trip. Never understand why people will fly a whole family for 4 days and use up a whole weeks worth of vacation time. Then they come home exhausted and say they'll never do it again because it was too expensive and they rushed around too much. Orlando in particular has so many cheap hotels that even paying extra for lodging is not that much if you plan it right.

Keep pricing the air and hopefully you can convince DH he will be more relaxed and rested from his vacation if you extend it.

Good luck!!!

You may be surprised that the air on a Sat or Sunday may not be that much higher unless you are planning to go over a holiday week. Since you mentioned June, I would think you would be fine.

I say MIGHT b/c who wants to actually tell them they are??:lmao: I can say that this year, we are going on a Sun- Sat week and all of the best SW flight prices have been T/W/Th. Also, if you can afford to wait, those are the airfare that dip the most it seems about 2-3 months out, as well as the most likey for near last minute deals.

With airfare the way it is right now, that could all change by then anyway, but historically, mid-week flying tends to be cheaper. It would be hard to choose, but if you had nothing special and dates were totally flexible, I'd go and come mid-week also- like we'll do next trip!
