Weekend at Beach Club Part 2: Cape May/FF/Kouzzina COMPLETE 9/18/12

Thank you folks! And Charlie says thank you for the birthday wishes! :goodvibes

Well, it happened....I actually had a GOOD meal at Cape May Cafe! Which just proves, second chances can turn out to be good gambles.

We are removing Beaches & Cream from our list for tomorrow though...love it, but just can't eat like that for lunch two days in a row. I don't know how we managed it on our last weekend here! :crazy2:

That was a fast weekend. We're back, and I'm going to crank out these reviews fast and furious so they don't distract me from the boring stuff I need to get back to!

We hit B&C shortly after we checked in, which was right around opening. It was surprisingly busy already, at least compared to our May visits!

I'd arrived with the intention of trying a vegetable burger that I'd seen on the online menu. I didn't see it at all on the actual menu once we got there though! Just the vegetable sandwich, which I was not going to consider because of the goat cheese spread it featured. When our waitress came to take our order, I kind of blanked. I should have asked about the veggie burger, but instead I just asked for the grilled cheese and soup. The second she walked away I kind of knew I'd made a bad choice!

Sure enough, out came this:

mini-DSC02152.jpg

Grilled Cheese & Tomato Bisque

Looks innocent, right? WRONG. I don't remember the last time I'd ordered a grilled cheese in a restaurant, so I forgot one very important detail: these things are usually fried in POUNDS of butter. This sandwich, which was a six-cheese blend on sourdough, could have been made by Paula Deen herself. Was it tasty? Sure! But it also sent my heart into palpitations by the third bite. The soup was a little bland, on the sweet side and I like tomato bisque when it was a bit of spice to it. The creaminess definitely didn't help the situation though! I knew we were going to get ice cream, so I gave up on this after eating half.

DH ordered:
mini-DSC02153.jpg

Single cheeseburger with onion rings

Except, oops, those are fries on the plate! Without a word, our server walked off and came back moments later:

mini-DSC02154.jpg

Soooo, now he had both fries AND onion rings. How perfect.

DH enjoyed the burger, he thought it tasted less greasy (somehow) than the one he had in May. But he really LOVED the onion rings. I'm glad she remembered and got them for him since I doubt he would have spoken up! :thumbsup2

Now, the ice cream is why we go to B&C, naturally, and we had to ring in our first day at Beach Club with...a No Way Jose! Awhile after we'd ordered this, suddenly the lights dimmed and the orange flashers turned off....the usual sign of a Kitchen Sink delivery. But nope, it was our sundae, along with a balloon for DH! Our server led the entire restaurant into a rendition of Happy Birthday for him. It was such a fun surprise, especially since it was DH's actual birthday!

mini-DSC02157.jpg

No Way Jose: A Peanut Butter and Hot Fudge Delight with Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Morsels, Whipped Cream and a Cherry

mini-DSC02156.jpg

and balloons!

It was definitely a fun meal! We had great service, as always. But we pretty immediately cancelled our plans to eat lunch here again the next day. I don't know how we managed it twice in a row in May. We certainly work up big appetites by our constant swimming in SAB during our BC visits, but the star at B&C for us is the ice cream, and most of the menu is so greasy or heavy it just makes it hard to get through an entree to even make it to dessert.

Yay, you're back! Hope you had a great trip - from the live updates, it sounds like there were some very good meals. :thumbsup2

Your entree actually looked and sounded good - sorry to hear it was just too much heaviness from the butter and cream.

I need to try the No Way Jose eventually (even if I only order a half-portion for myself). :goodvibes

:wave2: Hi Becky and welcome back to the DIS! Thanks for all the great text updates. It was a fun preview of your Dining Report. :thumbsup2 I hope you will consider doing it again on your next trip??? :)

ETA: I must admit that on our visit to B & C in May my daughter got the grilled cheese and I was a bit jealous. I shared a cheeseburger with my other daughter (which was good), but I was wishing that I had gotten the grilled cheese...bazillion calories and all! :lmao:

It was finally time again to face my nemesis, Cape May Cafe, the restaurant I'd declared easily the worst buffet in Disney. Going into a meal with expectations that low mean, guess what? You're probably going to like it more than you thought!

We had a great server, who explained some of the recent changes, noted that fried shrimp was on the menu tonight, and went on her way. There was another server at the surrounding tables who launched into a very long, very loud spiel like a recording each time she approached a new group. She kept going on and on about the pasta on the kids' buffet area being "the BEST macaroni & cheese in the ENTIRE WORLD!" The cynic in me started wondering if she was told to push that so folks would bulk up on cheap pasta instead of pricey seafood. :lmao:

The layout of the buffet didn't really change much, it's still in one too-small square, BUT they did have queue markers attempting to create some sort of orderly entrance and exit.

When I hit the salad side, I could already tell this was probably going to be a much better meal than in May!

mini-DSC02169.jpg

My first plate: dinner roll, cheese cubes, cole slaw, SHRIMP (yay!), quinoa tabbouleh, and golden beet salad.

First of all: SHRIMP! One sour note from our meal here in May was that there was NO shrimp on the menu of any kind, not even the "nightly" peel & eat shrimp. Well now the nightly shrimp are already peeled, and although they seem small in the photo, they're deceptively plump. I LOVED the tabbouleh and golden beats, super refreshing. The dinner roll and cheese weren't anything unusual, but they were tasty! The only thing I didn't really love was the cole slaw. But overall, a success!

mini-DSC02167.jpg

DH's first plate, fairly similar to mine: cheese, marinated olives, cornbread, shrimp, seafood salad, golden beats, and tabbouleh. In the upper left you can also see the bowl of the new seafood chowder.

DH adored the clam chowder last time, and was really bummed to hear it was changed. But no worries, the seafood chowder was even better! It was definitely more of a 'fishy' taste, probably because of the scallops, but he loved that it was so meaty. He loved everything on his plate, except the cornbread. His favorite though was the marinated seafood salad, which inspired me to try it next!

mini-DSC02172.jpg

My second plate: LOTS more shrimp, this time with cocktail sauce, some of the seafood salad, potato salad, mozzarella and tomato salad, and yes, another plain ole dinner roll with some cheese!

Again, all quite good and very fresh tasting! I really enjoyed the cold shrimp and I'm certainly glad they were offered now. The fried shrimp on the menu for the night were the size of salad shrimp...just little ridiculous clumps of breading. So if you're a shrimp fan, I definitely wouldn't worry about planning your ADRs around fried shrimp that would be subpar at a Long John Silver's. The seafood salad and the cold shrimp should hit the spot for you! :thumbsup2

OK, after his salad plate, DH got down to business. He loves shellfish, and since it was his birthday, he was determined to go all out. And he certainly did! Allow me to present:

mini-DSC02171.jpg

DH plate 2...

mini-DSC02173.jpg

DH plate 3...

mini-DSC02174.jpg

and DH plate 4.

Just watching him crack all those legs, especially after all our swimming, exhausted me! :lmao: DH swears they got a new steamer that affects how the crab cooks and makes it too soft, and hard to crack. It tasted great, but it just was more work. He loved every bit though! I think he's had his fix of shellfish for the rest of the year!

While he was battling his crab legs I wandered off to the desserts:

mini-DSC02175.jpg

Lemon cheesecake topped with blueberry cream, strawberry shortcake, caramel flan, and boston cream pie. Cake. Pie-cake.

The dessert section seemed majorly lackluster in comparison to last time. Back in May it was the only part of the meal I enjoyed, and there seemed to be more variety. The only thing I didn't put on my plate was a flourless chocolate cake that looked like one of those nasty liquor chocolates.

The cheesecake was great, but I've never really met a cheesecake I didn't like! :lmao: The shortcake was fine. I have no idea why I took the flan. I'm not sure what I thought it was, since apparently I can't read signs, but when I took a spoonful I recoiled in horror. I hate flan. The boston cream thing was tasteless.

So, for me, Cape May now has better food, but worse desserts!

Last time, DH didn't really have any interest in dessert. He doesn't have a sweet tooth like me and can usually skip it. This time I think he just decided to go all out because he was in birthday mode, I think! :lmao:

mini-DSC02177.jpg

You can see the 'flourless chocolate cakes' hiding in the top center, and he also supplemented his dessert with more cheese! He was underwhelmed by the desserts, so much so that I can't even get a detailed opinion out of him now, even though it's only been two days!

So, I survived my return to Cape May, and found selections there that worked well enough for me so that I could enjoy my meal. Can't ask for much more! It was better than I expected. Surprisingly, the opposite seemed true for DH. He enjoyed it thoroughly, but seemed a bit less in love with the place than last time, and told me twice was enough for Cape May. I'm not going to put up a fight over that one! :rolleyes1

OOPS, forgot something!

At the end of our meal, while we were having our desserts and coffee, our server brought out a birthday surprise for Charlie!

mini-DSC02179.jpg

mini-DSC02181.jpg

A birthday card and a chocolate mousse-dome, complete with candle! No singing this time  but she did tell DH to make a wish! We may not have needed an extra dessert, but it was very thoughtful, and actually tasted better than half the buffet dessert offerings! But we got a big kick out of the card. We love Figment (we named our cat after him!) and we also love the randomness of the card...Mickey, Figment, and Roger Rabbit?

MK had evening EMH that night, so we were able to do a few hours of swimming after dinner AND hit a park. Unfortunately, it was HOOOOOOOT. We're used to the weather down here, and used to hitting the theme parks in the dead of summer. But for some reason, this night was almost unbearable even to us. The humidity was off the charts!

So after some rides, we were ready for a refresher. Only problem was, there aren't many options during EMH! DH saw Aloha Isle was open and he LOVES Dole Whip Floats so it was only appropriate he should have one for his birthday!

dolewhip.jpg

But I shocked him when I ordered one too, and when I declared it delicious! I love pineapple, but I've never really been a Dole Whip fan, or a fan of anything that pretends to be ice cream but has no dairy! I'm still not sure if it was a fluke due to the heat, but this was REALLY, REALLY good. I should have just gotten the DW without the float though. The juice was served lukewarm...not refreshing!

:goodvibes

TY! :goodvibes And I'm sure my meal would have been GREAT another time, say maybe at the end of a long tiring park day. In winter. I think the fact that we just got there, combined with the heat and the fact that I NEEDED ice cream made it too much!

And if you love the combination of peanut butter and ice cream in ANY capacity you should enjoy a No Way Jose! I hope you try it someday!

:wave2: Hi Becky and welcome back to the DIS! Thanks for all the great text updates. It was a fun preview of your Dining Report. :thumbsup2 I hope you will consider doing it again on your next trip??? :)

Thank you! And thank you for letting me send you the live updates! I'd love to do it again next trip when we're in the world a bit longer. Or in January when we're there for an entire week!

The Captain's Grille was nearly empty when we arrived for our meal, and it was exceptionally quiet. We didn't even bother looking at the buffet, just sat down and looked at the menu.

DH wants me to make sure to mention that our server was 'out of it'. I have no idea what he means...she was attentive, pleasant, and look, she brought out more birthday balloons!

mini-DSC02187.jpg

I guess balloons are the new alternative to the celebration cupcakes? I think balloons are a big improvement, but folks stopping in for breakfast on their way to a park may not agree!

There were several options on the menu that were appealing to me, but I went with:

mini-DSC02186.jpg

Lemon-Ricotta Hotcakes: blueberry compote, citrus pudding, and Captain's potatoes

I asked to substitute scrambled eggs for the potatoes. The server warned me there might be a slight upcharge, but there was none listed when the bill came. :thumbsup2

These pancakes were tasty! A very decent portion-size, not overly "Disney-esque" at all. They were very thin, almost crepe-like, and the ricotta was subtle and not too rich with just the right amount of tart from the lemon and sweet from the blueberry. The eggs were kind of lukewarm and I'm sure they were scooped onto the plate from one of the bins for the buffet  but they were cooked through and not runny, that's all I ask of my eggs! I enjoyed my breakfast. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but if we're staying at BC I'd definitely order these pancakes again.

(apparently I ran with a lemon-blueberry theme this weekend...ahhh, summer!)

DH chose...
mini-DSC02188.jpg

Lobster omelet: butter-warmed lobster, asparagus, chive-infused cream and captain's potatoes

This omelet was very generously packed with lobster meat. DH says it was chewy, but good, and he loved the chive cream! He's not a big asparagus fan and was considering asking them to leave it out, but it was cut into tiny pieces, not long spears, and mixed well throughout. The potatoes were nicely seasoned. He liked his meal overall, but says he'd probably opt for the buffet next time over this.

Loving your reviews! I was tempted to book 2 breakfasts at Capt Grill next month, one for buffet (since its so much cheaper than Cape May) and one for menu but I would have ordered the lobster omelette...but I cannot stand chewy rubbery lobster. Maybe I should rethink my plan..... What would you do?

Since we'd previously decided to skip our original plans of returning to Beaches & Cream for lunch this day, we wandered off to the Marketplace instead.

We wound up choosing the same thing, with slight alterations!

mini-DSC02193.jpg

mini-DSC02194.jpg

mini-DSC02195.jpg

Turkey-Brie sandwich: sliced turkey, brie, bacon, arugula, and cranberry spread on a multigrain roll.

I ordered mine without bacon and with a side of couscous; DH chose it with bacon and with a side of chips.

We opted to have our sandwiches warmed and pressed...I can't imagine NOT doing so for this sandwich! The brie got all warm and melty, the cranberry flavor really popped, the bread was crisp and toasty...this was just a wonderfully simple, tasty, convenient lunch. I'd eat this again in a heartbeat and surely will on our next stay at BC!

The couscous was a perfect side, light and refreshing. DH liked his chips, but wished he'd gotten one of the side salads.

Maybe I should rethink my plan..... What would you do?

I'd avoid the omelet! I read your post to DH and he said the lobster had good flavor, but it WAS chewy and rubbery, so he thinks you might want to skip it. I wish I'd gone up and looked at the buffet so I could give an opinion on it, but we didn't. I know I've seen pics on here from it...Brenda/Emmysmommy reviewed it I think? If I hadn't been interested in the pancakes (or, as a backup, those dark chocolate waffles) I would have tried the buffet.

Two breakfasts there does seem pretty generous though, especially if there's nothing on the menu that grabs you (apart from the lobster omelet). Have you had Kouzzina breakfast? Our breakfast there today was SO good I changed one of our October ADRs to fit it in! :worship:

You sound like you love Stormalong Bay as much as we do!:) isn't it awesome!! You guys should do what we did ten years ago, and join DVC and have the BCV as your "home". We've loved it. And Beaches and Cream is one of the first places we go, always for the No Way Jose, YUM, never get sick of it:thumbsup2.

Finally, the highlight of our weekend, our dinner at Flying Fish!

We arrived MUCH earlier than our ADR, which I figured most likely wouldn't be a problem. The resort area had been pretty quiet (with the exception of Beaches & Cream!) and sure enough we were seated immediately at a window table.

I love the decor in here!
mini-DSC02196.jpg

So, as I had texted to Barb for the live updates thread...I think our server, Bob, had to have been fresh from a long stint at 50's Prime Time Cafe, because he picked on me all night. It started kind of slow...shortly after we'd sat down, I had pulled my phone out of my purse to put on the chair beside us, so I could text Barb a photo from our meal. Bob told me "If you're googling items on the menu to understand what they area, you should really just ask me!" I was a little taken aback by this. And it just kept coming! I said "No thank you" to him when he offered/asked something a moment later...I don't remember what it was, but he started asking DH "Is she always like this?" and then offered to have me moved to a table on the patio. Yeaaaaah...a little strange, and definitely not quite what I expect when I get all dolled up for a lovely meal. BUT! Somewhere around the delivery of the appetizers when my initial confusion wore off, I started having fun with him. It turns out Bob was a pretty good guy, he just had one heck of a vivacious personality. He was VERY attentive though and made us laugh and laugh throughout the meal. We wound up tipping him way over the TIW-included gratuity for showing us such a good time. I DO have to wonder though if he's like that with ALL his patrons, because that seems dangerously capable of backfiring!

Anyway! On with the meal!

DH started his meal with a cocktail, the Flying Fish Fizz:
mini-DSC02198.jpg

I don't remember what was in this, but it was STRONG!

Bob delivered bread...
mini-DSC02200.jpg

He told us it was only the second day they'd served this bread. It was a sort of soft onion rye bread. It was fine, kind of better suited for a sandwich than eating plain on its own IMO.

Appetizers were a struggle for me! I'd wanted soup or a salad. The soup that day was a corn clam chowder, bleh. I came very close to ordering the Epcot (grown) Salad, hold the goat cheese, but I wanted something a bit easier to share.

I wound up choosing:
mini-DSC02201.jpg

Vegetarian Sushi Roll - Tofu, Avocado, summer radish, young carrot roll, cucumber-seaweed salad and piquant mango and Asian cream accents

This was great! The sauces lent a slight spiciness which I love in my sushi. I probably wouldn't order it again, because we get sushi so much at home it doesn't seem as 'special', but this was certainly well prepared. It was also more than large enough to share, with six generous pieces.

DH chose the famous...
mini-DSC02202.jpg

"Crispy Maine Coast Jonah Crab Cake" - Savory Vegetable Slaw, Roasted Red Pepper Coulis, and Ancho Chile Rémoulade

Delicious! I'm not a big fan of crab cakes so when he offered me a bite I didn't expect to like it, but it was SO rich and flavorful. The cold crisp coleslaw underneath was a great contrast and the remoulade was fantastic. If we ever go back and he gets this again, I'm going to force him to share more! He loved it.

For our entrees, I knew exactly what I wanted before I stepped in. The much-maligned....

mini-DSC02203.jpg

"Char-crusted Angus New York Strip Steak" - Fingerling Potatoes, Hericot Vert, young carrots, and bermuda onions with Classic Sauce Foyot"

Reading the reactions when Barb shared my photo text in her thread cracked me up. Such horror at the appearance of this steak! Let me tell you; I'm not much of a red meat eater, and I have steak about once every 16 months, if that. But I LOVE charred meat. It's terrible, I'll probably die from eating it someday, but if you put anything on a grill and turn it black, I will love it. I used to only EVER order steaks "well done" until my DH begged me to at least settle on "medium". I've said before I think that's why I'm one of the few people who have never had a bad meal at 'Ohana!

THAT said...this steak was NOT "burnt". When I put my knife into it for the first time, it slid right through. Despite its appearance, it melted in my mouth like butter. And I absolutely LOVED it. I'm pretty sure I "mmm"d throughout my first six or seven bites. The juicy steak with the char crust combined with the tremendously rich foyot was delicious. It was just MEAT on top of MEAT on top of MEAT, a flavor that really smacks you across the face. Such an unusual choice for me, but this easily filled my steak quota for the next two years. DO NOT FEAR THE CHAR, people!

The vegetables were lovely, nice and firm. I'm not a huge fan of fingerling potatoes because I find they're often either "soggy" or "undercooked", but these were perfect! Simply too much to handle on top of all the MEAT though so most remained on my plate. I forcefed DH as many forkfuls of my steak as I could because I refused to waste a bite. He agreed it was tender, but he enjoyed his entree much more.

And his entree was:
mini-DSC02204.jpg

"Ginger and Teriyaki Char-Crusted Yellowfin Tuna - bok choy, Asian mushrooms, carrots, snap and snow peas, with a lightly curried carrot-coconut lemongrass infusion"

He loves anything with a curry flavor, so this was right up his alley! The portion was SUPER generous for a tuna dish. The "char" crust here wasn't anything like on the steak. Just a lovely rare center with a medium outer layer. You can't really see in the picture but there was an entire forest worth of mushrooms in here! I was starting to get jealous! Apart from that I thought his entree was a bit boring, because we eat a ton of fish at home. But he thought this was by far the best tuna he's ever had, and was super pleased with this choice!

While we were looking over the dessert menu, deciding what we could possibly force ourselves to make room for  Bob surprised DH with this:

mini-DSC02205.jpg

"PB&J Créme Brulée - Raspberry Confiture, Double Chocolate Biscotti, and Chocolate Ganache Pipette

It was a lovely surprise, particularly because DH loves creme brulee and I assumed going in that he'd order it anyway. I'm not a fan, but I had to try a bite, and woah, talk about RICH! DH actually didn't like it much either. The PB flavor was just too strong and it was overall a bit odd to him. It was still a nice gesture though! The pipette of chocolate sauce was fun!

I wanted a glass of ice wine with dessert, but decided I might as well go with the flight!

mini-DSC02206.jpg

mini-DSC02207.jpg

The Kiona was the one I'd wanted to order a glass of before I saw the flight, and it was my favorite by a landslide! Bob assured us that a complimentary wheelchair would be provided if the three ounces of wine proved too much for me!

DH ordered the dessert wine flight:
mini-DSC02208.jpg

mini-DSC02209.jpg

His review: "I wouldn't say I disliked any of them...I just wouldn't order a full glass of any of them." He normally loves Moscato but he didn't even enjoy that one. I think the PB&J creme brulee ruined his palette!

For my dessert, I chose:
mini-DSC02210.jpg

"Blueberry-Lemon Panna Cotta Torta: Citrus Crème Fraîche and Limoncello Pâte de Fruit"

:worship: That says it all about my feelings on this dessert. I usually love SUPER sweet desserts but I was in the mood for the exact opposite here, and this was a perfect choice. Amazingly fresh and tart blueberries, tangy creme fraiche with a slight acidic hint, warm on the bottom and cold on top, just a soft little bundle of summery bliss.

DH chose, for his (second) dessert, the FF classic:
mini-DSC02211.jpg

Caramelized Banana Napoleon” Crisp Phyllo, Banana Mousse, Crème Caramel, Exotic Fruit Coulis, and Bitter Chocolate.

He enjoyed this MUCH more than the PB&J. He loves banana in desserts and the mousse was heaven to him. It was just sweet enough without being cloying and the phyllo was buttery and perfect! I refused to try a bite at the time (it seemed messy!) but wish I had!

And that concludes our ENORMOUS, nearly two-hour-long meal at Flying Fish Cafe. It was definitely a fantastic experience with great food and a very unusually entertaining server . We definitely hope to go back! This might have to be DH's new birthday tradition!

What a fun FF review! I know exactly what you were saying about the server - fun (if you roll with it), but the antics kind of make more sense at WCC or Prime Time, right? (our experience at Artist Point was similar - I can't imagine everyone being okay with it.)

As for the food, I loved the banana napoleon, but your panna cotta looks incredible! I could skip the rest of the food (since interesting seafood is so easy to find at home, and I'll never try that steak!), but I could totally go to FF and order a sampling of desserts. :thumbsup2

I've read some very mixed reviews of FF before, so it always seemed like a place that I didn't mind never trying. But your review is making me put it back on the list of places to try. Just for dessert, if nothing else, although I do love fish and seafood. And the crab cake appetizer looks wonderful as well.

My DBF is not too thrilled with our upcoming Capt Grille breakfast ADR, but after reading your review, we're definately going and I think I need the pancakes AND the lobster omellette (SP??)! 15 days!!

Since this was our checkout day, I had a plan! We'd eat a super early breakfast, then hit Stormalong Bay for a few more hours, and then check out and head to lunch. Poor DH, as I was dragging him across the boardwalk at 7:30 in the morning, pointed out one small detail I'd forgotten; SAB didn't open until 10. Soooo I'd forced us both out of bed and to the first available breakfast seating of the day for no reason whatsoever. :lmao: We wound up napping in the room until we could go swim!

So, anyway, as you can imagine the restaurant was not quite busy!

mini-DSC02214.jpg

The first thing we ordered was a press pot of coffee.

mini-DSC02215.jpg

Which was great! Very bold, but not bitter at all. I generally like my coffee to taste super sweet and nothing like coffee. But I enjoyed this. Not as much as Kona's press pot, but it was the best coffee we'd had all trip.

I had a serious dilemma with the Kouzzina menu. I couldn't choose, I wanted one of everything! The spinach and feta scrambled eggs sounded delicious, but also like something I could make at home, so I scratched that. Then I fixated on the blueberry granola pancakes, but I'd had pancakes the day before. And I REALLY wanted the greek yogurt. I've had greek yogurt every day for the past three years or so, I LOVE it, and usually I wouldn't order something I eat so much at home. But this was house-made and so tempting!

We wound up ordering an...appetizer? Starter? At breakfast? That's a new stage of gluttony for us! :lmao:

mini-DSC02216.jpg

Steel-cut Cinnamon Oatmeal with Bananas, walnuts, and Honey-drizzle.

I can't eat oatmeal at home without heavily dousing it with nutmeg and cinnamon, so I LOVED the flavor of this. The honey over the bananas combined with the steaming hot oatmeal was such a warm, wonderful way to start breakfast! DH even really enjoyed the flavor and he's not big on oatmeal. This was a HUGE portion and we wasted way too much of it.

For my breakfast, I chose:

mini-DSC02217.jpg

Classic Golden Waffle - with Whipped Mascarpone Cheese, Honey, and Chopped Pecans and choice of Bacon or Chicken Sausage

This won out because, well, we don't have a waffle iron at home so I figure it's not something I can make anytime soon! I was worried it'd be too sweet, but it wasn't at all. The cold, tangy mascarpone was such a perfect topping for the waffle, and it was drizzled with a very slight amount of maple syrup, which is something I only like in VERY limited quantity. So, so, so good. And I was excited for the chicken sausage, because most other restaurants offer only bacon and pork sausage, which I don't eat. But I didn't really care for this, either. It tasted just as fatty and greasy as every other Disney sausage. It didn't matter though, the waffle was the star!

DH chose...

mini-DSC02218.jpg

Stacked Kouzzina Breakfast
- Two Poached Eggs, Kalamata Olive Toast, Artichoke Spread, and Sweet Potato Hash with choice of Bacon or Chicken Sausage

He said these were the BEST poached eggs he's ever had, cooked perfectly, super fluffy. He loved the savory flavor of the hash and the artichoke spread, which he wound up mixing in with everything. The only thing that wasn't a hit that was the toast, which didn't have much olive flavor, or any flavor. But he said he'd definitely order that breakfast again!

We had strange service here. Our server had exactly one other table, only for half of our meal, yet she kept disappearing for extended lengths of time. Also, another server bought the press pot out, expressed annoyance with our server, than proceeded to sort of...violently fuss with the pot, to the point where I was sure it was going to fall over and spray us with hot coffee. But none of that bothered us because our meal was so delicious! I already swapped out an October breakfast ADR at Kona for Kouzzina. I need to try their yogurt. And their pancakes. And down the line, those eggs.

mini-DSC02205.jpg

"PB&J Créme Brulée - Raspberry Confiture, Double Chocolate Biscotti, and Chocolate Ganache Pipette

They still have the PB & J Creme Brulee! I really wanted to try this during our May trip, but unfortunately Flying Fish was the one fatality of my dining schedule. Yep, instead of dining on crab cakes, red snapper, and creme brulee, we had cardboard from a pizza box...I mean pizza from a cardboard box. ;) :p But then again, if our plans hadn't been changed, I would have never met the Boardwalk "pizza dude". :rotfl:

And your Kouzzina breakfast looks very good. However, I'm still partial to their french toast. YUM! :goodvibes I'm so glad you had two great meals along the Boardwalk. Oh, and btw, how was that cupcake from the Boardwalk Bakery? Did it taste as good as it looked?

Thank you! And thank you for letting me send you the live updates! I'd love to do it again next trip when we're in the world a bit longer. Or in January when we're there for an entire week!

I would definitely love to receive more live updates from you on your next trip and hopefully (if my thread is still alive by then) in January, as well. :thumbsup2 What are the dates of your next trip so I can add the exact dates to my list?
