Weekday RV Storage allowed in Overflow Lot ??

Well, we have been here for over a month and I started noticing the same travel trailer and golf cart being stored in the overflow lot during the week. I would see the golf cart riding around the campground and noticed it parked with the RV in the full hookup sites during the weekends. The golf cart is very noticeable because it is a 6-seater with a make-shift roof made out of an old piece of RV awning (multi-striped). The golf cart is kinda dirty and beat up looking.

So obviously, these people are locals and drive to the Fort on weekends. The pickup their trailer and golf cart in the overlow lot and then camp on the weekends. After the weekend is over, they put everything back in the overflow lot (different location every week) and go home.

Now this is a real sore subject for me. Last fall we were here for several months and my father passed away during our visit. I went to the front desk and asked about leaving my RV in the overflow lot while we drove home to attend my father's funeral. I was told that I could not leave it in the overflow lot for 6 days. So I had to pay for a site for 6 days to keep our RV on while we were gone. I was upset enough over my father's death so the last thing on my mind was fighting with a suit who told me no. We just left our RV on the site and hit the road.

Now you tell me how somebody can keep their travel trailer and golf cart in the overflow lot every week for at least a month and nobody says anything to them. I don't know how long they have been doing it but it's been at least since the first of September.

So much for security checking the lot.:confused3

Sorry for the vent but every time we go out the front and I see that trailer, it ticks me off.

I would have to agree with you on this one. I know of too many people who have been told "NO" when asked if they could leave their MH or TT in the overflow lot so they could go on a Disney Cruise!!! That has always puzzled me!!!

Perhaps these people know when to "pop in" so security won't confront them. But then again, the TT could be tire chalked so security at the gate could identify them. They could also get OSCO to have the TT & golf cart impounded for trespassing. There are a lot of ways Disney Po-Po could handle this - but - in keeping with Disney tradition - they don't want to negatively confront any guest - even if they are blatantly violating the rules and breaking the law.

I don't know the rules, but I would go talk to management and tell them what you just told us. If it is true that these people park every week in the over flow lot, and you could not, even in an emergency, I would ask for a refund. What is fair for one, should be fair for all.

Every trip we've taken to the Fort in the last few years we have always noticed 1 or 2 TTs/MHs parked for extended periods of time in the overflow lot - like days/week or more. We've always wondered what the deal was there too but have never bothered to ask. :confused3

Something is rotten in Denmark.

These people must know someone.

Just like whoever owns Amazing Detailing.

Like in the rest of the world, the rules don't apply to everyone.

It's not what you know, it's who you know.

I don't blame you for being ticked, rapriebe, but somehow I don't think bringing it to the attention of management will do a bit of good. Management has to know about this, and for some reason, these folks are immune from the rules.

Phooey!

Look on the vehicle and see if there's a current parking pass on it. If so somebody gave them a pass. I have parked my pop up there for an extended time because a friend was there and she put a pass on it in a clear bag.

I looked at it last week when I was out bike riding and there was no parking pass on it. That surprised me because of how anal they are about extra cars should be parked there with the parking pass.

Yeah, I wouldn't leave my truck in the overflow without a pass. It costs a bunch to get it from impound so it's just not worth it.

Hey rapriebe, I meant to ask you, is the golf cart red? I was wondering if it is a cart that I see at the Fort a lot.

And, Stacktester, you have got me to thinking . . .

If all you need to park in the overflow lot is a parking pass, then folks who are long term campers (like Judie on the 100 loop, and Discampers from here on the boards and even rapriebe who has now been there for a month) ought to start getting extra passes and selling them. I wouldn't mind keeping my trailer right there in the overflow lot.

Or, the long term campers could get themselves a few extra golf carts (I think we have a member here on the boards that could provide them), and rent them out to us Disboarders who don't want to pay Disney.

Scratch that. I have an even better idea. I am moving to Fort Wilderness. I will live full time on the 1500 loop, and sell parking passes, rent golf carts, and also operate an internet cafe. Heck, I'll even get a few Segways and take people on a real backwoods tour of the Fort.

Too funny Andrew. I only left the pup there because we were coming back for another week and bringing it home was not an option as I had the 5'er there too lol.

I've been contemplating adding a cart to my pop up rental. I talked to my insurance co. and they said no problem. I just have to have a good waiver like a rental car co.

I realize that people should be treated fairly but aren't PT/SEASONAL employees allowed to stay at FW? The unit in question may be someone who works on weekends so they are allowed to keep it there when they are not working at one of the parks.....I just hate to see people getting upset when there may be a very logical and acceptable reason for the unit to be there...

As the old adage goes, "You can't always judge a book by it's cover"...Just a thought!

Yes, this is true, you never know the entire story. Sure, PT/seasonal employees are allowed to stay at FW. However, when Disney rents a site you are renting it the same way as every other person, no regard to whether you are employed there or not. Yes, you may get a CM discount but they do not have a program set up for "workcampers" i.e., no special programs setup for people who work PT/seasonal at WDW. I know this information to be factual because I have inquired at Disney Casting.

I think you might be over-reacting to my comments - I just said it ticked me off. I believe that all of the other posters know how Disney operates and that these people are just getting away with it because no one has noticed them yet.

Didn't say you shouldn't be "ticked".. You had special circumstances but why are other people ticked or making comments about "special treatment"... we don't know the whole story. As someone said earlier if I were you I would contact management..I had some issues during our visit in August and received a phone call and follow up letter from "corporate" after sending an "E" mail. My experience has been that they try very hard to make things right...despite comments to the contrary by others...

Long time Disney employee with special retirement perk.

Don't bother asking how I know.

Ugh. That's terrible! I'd like to think there would be some way for them to have allowed this under your special circumstances. (Yeah, I know, someone's going to say, "But if they bend rules for them...where does it stop?" But I stand by my statement! :goodvibes) And I'm also sorry for your loss.

As far as the current situation...I'm a rule-follower, so it would irk me. I'd probably end up casually asking around for the scoop. (But then again, that's my journalistic instincts kicking in, lol.)

Hope you find some peace with the situation.

Sorry TCD, missed this question. The cart is white, most of the seats are red but one is green. The top is pastel colors of liliac, turqouise (sp?) and another color stripe on white fabric.

Contact or PM lauraebeth she works at the Fort.

One thing I have learned dealing with Disney and the Fort is to deal with the highest Manager you can find. Most CM don't have a clue what is going on. If you ask the same question to 10 CM you will get 10 different answers. also get their name and position.

That is not the cart I was thinking of.

But it sounds lovely! ;)

A few years ago there was a beat up old Winnie in the lot for a week, generator humming away, awnings out. Nobody was doing anything. I went and complained to the manager at the desk. Security had them out by that afternoon. Just about every time I am there I see a big class A in the lot all the time with a big Donald and Daisy on the back. Not sure what their story is.
